Chapter 583: Lu Lizheng’s Visit

Chapter 583: Lu Lizheng’s Visit

Xu Si nodded quickly, already turning to leave, but Xu Feng wasn’t finished.

"Have the rest of the estate take their dinner from the main kitchen," he instructed, his tone calm but firm. "Our numbers might be a bit smaller now, but they still need to eat. I set aside food for you already."

Xu Si’s head bobbed in acknowledgment, but Xu Feng continued, "Also, Bai Mo’s portion needs to be delivered to his residence."

She nodded again, her thoughts already running ahead to ensure the tasks would be handled properly. "I’ll have someone take care of it immediately."

Xu Feng hummed in approval, maybe feeling slightly guilty for nearly blinding the poor girl with his peep show. Little did he know, she was already used to it. In fact, it was a welcome change—seeing them in high spirits was much better than the long, grim days when Master Jian and Master Yang had barely spoken.

"Good. Thank you, Si."

A small flush crept up her face at the unexpected praise, but she only gave a crisp nod before swiftly exiting to carry out his orders.

Xu Feng exhaled and turned back—only to find Xuan Jian still standing there, his expression slowly breaking apart. From calm and composed to a barely contained grin stretching across his face.

Xu Feng squinted at him. "What?"

Xuan Jian’s lips curved further, amusement dancing in his grey eyes.

"I should change," Xu Feng announced, trying to sound unaffected.

"Mmm," Xuan Jian responded smoothly, though his smirk made it clear he was teasing.

Xu Feng rolled his eyes, ignoring the warmth creeping up his neck as he swiftly turned and headed toward his rooms.

Xuan Jian, looking far too pleased with himself, instead moved toward the kitchen.

.

.

Dinner was, well... heartfelt.

Xu Feng had prepared the meal with sincerity, considering his guests’ tastes and status. From start to finish, Lu Lizheng was openly appreciative of the spread. Although to Xu Feng, it was a simple, last minute meal, it was undoubtedly one of the heartiest feasts the village chief had ever attended in their home.

It was certainly more abundant than the previous two meals he had shared under Nanshan’s roof—one during Xu Feng and Xuan Yang’s marriage contract signing, and another at their formal wedding feast.

Both had been hosted by Lady Xuan and had been lackluster by noble standards. A village chief may have enjoyed a similar meal only on special occasions or if his village was particularly prosperous.

Xu Feng almost felt bad. If this was the most lavish meal Lu Lizheng had eaten under his own roof, he felt like he wasn’t a graceful host in the least.

Luckily, the arrival of their guests had been timed perfectly.

Xu San herself had escorted the group into Blooming Courtyard, deliberately leading them along a scenic route. With a well paced walk, she gave them glimpses of the estate’s grander areas—the expansive courtyards, the manicured gardens, the outer halls—all to allow Xu Feng time to change.

By the time they arrived at the entrance to the smaller reception hall, the group was already slightly overwhelmed.

Xu Feng stood at the entrance, perfectly poised, dressed in simple fresh robes that subtly complemented his husbands’ attire. His silver hair had been smoothed into a neat half tie, giving him an effortlessly regal presence.

The first to enter was Lu Lizheng, his posture straight but his expression warm. His wife followed, visibly nervous but equally impressed by the refined setting. Behind them were their two sons and their wives, each of them wide eyed, struggling to mask their surprise at what they were seeing.

Their eyes swept over the high ceilings, the polished wooden beams, the intricate lanterns casting a soft glow across the hall.

But then—

Their attention snapped to the towering figures standing beside Xu Feng.

Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian, both dressed in fresh, deep colored robes, each holding a child in their arms with ease.

And then, beside them—two more children, Xiao An and Xiao Momo, still in their clothes from earlier, looking a little worse for wear after an evening of play. Still, they stood there confident, unconcerned about the strangers. The two were much more confident than when they first began living in the estate.

From the grandeur of Nanshan Estate to the sheer presence of the three overly tall men and one overly tall ger—along with six children whose origins were entirely unknown—the guests were, understandably, caught off guard.

For a moment, they hesitated, eyes flickering between the figures before them as if trying to piece together the situation.

Xu Feng didn’t leave them in confusion for long.

With a smooth, easy cadence, he gestured first toward his husbands. "My two husbands, Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian."

He let the words settle, watching the momentary shock flicker across their faces. The idea of one ger marrying two husbands was uncommon, but this was Nanshan. This was his home. And, it wasn’t illegal, just uncommon...

Without pause, he gestured toward the children. "Our children, and the children of Nanshan Estate." The words slipped out smoothly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

And then, he turned slightly to indicate the figure just a few steps away.

Xu Zeng, still in his clothes from earlier, stood calmly at the side of the hall.

Two thin babies nestled securely in his arms.

The sight of the silver haired man, as tall as the others, effortlessly carrying the infants with a quiet, composed air, only added another layer of bewilderment to the visitors’ expressions.

Xu Feng’s lips twitched slightly before he made the final introduction.

"Oh, and this is my brother, Xu Zeng," he added lightly.

The moment stretched as the village chief and his family absorbed everything.

Xu Feng had expected some amount of surprise, but the mild flabbergasted expressions that settled on Lu Lizheng and his family were almost comical.

The village chief quickly recovered, inclining his head with respectful familiarity. His wife, however, had trouble keeping her eyes from darting between the towering figures in the room.

Their two sons and their wives mirrored their mother in law’s apprehension, their gazes sweeping over the luxurious yet understated surroundings of Blooming Courtyard.

They had never seen glimpses of the estate before as brides from outside the village, they hadn’t even attended Xu Feng’s wedding. Xu San had led them slowly, deliberately giving them time to admire each part of the residence while Xu Feng finished dressing.

Now, standing before them were the main family of the Nanshan household—children included. Xu Feng had pointed to his sons and introduced them as his children. It was thought that he had a birthing complication, but the two babies were nice plump, and shiny.

Xu Zeng, after a short nod in greeting, turned away almost immediately, his attention shifting to San as he spoke as if the guests weren’t even present.

"When is Hu Zhe having dinner?" His tone was casual but with a hint of impatience, his fingers gently rubbing the backs of the babies he still carried. "He needs to help with feeding the children."

Xu Zeng clearly had no intention of letting any of the children eat with the estate’s servants—at least, not yet. But there was one glaring issue.

Could he feed six babies at once?

No.

San caught onto the predicament almost immediately, nodding as she glanced around. "I’ll round everyone up. They should all eat in the ’kitchen.’"

There was a small pause as the guests overheard their conversation. To their ears, it likely sounded as if the younger brother of the mistress of Nanshan was going to eat by the stove like a lowly servant.

They had no idea there was an entirely separate dining area set aside for those living in Blooming Courtyard—including the masters—a space that served as their private dining hall and this small but grand hall was where Xu San would normally eat if Xu Feng wasn’t around.

San, seemingly unaware of their assumptions, took her leave to find those who normally ate in Blooming Courtyard.

Meanwhile, Xu Zeng wasted no time trying to enlist Xiao Momo and Xiao An to help him with the children. His plan was simple—he was going to bundle up his nephews and the two youngest ones into baskets and take them away.

Xu Feng frowned. "At least leave us Xiao Long and Da Long," he insisted.

The two babies were still nestled in Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian’s arms, and though the two men remained silent, neither relinquished the children either.

Xu Zeng, unimpressed, lifted a brow at his older brother. "You’ll be too busy entertaining guests."

Xu Feng scoffed, but before he could argue further, Xu Si and Xu San returned, accompanied by Xu Hu Zhe, Lee Hua, two of Jian’s men, and one of the three remaining servants who had joined the estate last winter—Guomin.

Xu Feng barely had a moment to process their arrival before the inevitable happened.

The children were whisked away.

Gone.

The choice to dine with them had quite literally been stolen from him.

Xu Feng sighed, but he didn’t resist. Instead, he turned back to Lu Lizheng and offered a small, dimpled smile before stepping toward the set dining table.

"My brother loves children a lot," he said lightly, his voice even and smooth. "Please excuse his sharp words."

Lu Lizheng blinked, his wife still looking somewhat bewildered, her eyes flickering to where Xu Zeng had just left with all the estate’s children in tow.

Xu Feng wasn’t sure if he should be apologizing as the head of the household, but as his gaze drifted back to his husbands—then to the three women seated across from him, their expressions hovering between intrigue and disbelief—he realized something.

They weren’t focused on the children who were whisked away from his husbands.

Not entirely.

They were looking at his husbands!

Ah.

That.
