Chapter 536: Loose Ends
Xu Feng smiled down at Mingyue, nodding. "I saw. Good job."
The half-sized bun beamed, his chest puffing out with pride. Xu Feng couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride himself. The boy was powerful, more powerful than Xu Feng had anticipated, and his control over his abilities was impressive.
But what impressed Xu Feng even more was the boy’s willingness to trust him. To follow his guidance without question.
Whether they met again in the near future or a far distant one, Xu Feng was certain both Mingjun and Mingyue would turn into amazing dragons. They would eventually reach their goals, whether it was what Yujie had in mind for them, or they had new dreams.

.
The past few days had felt like a whirlwind of strange situations and uncertain decisions.
From his unexpected alliance with Zhang Wei and Li Hao to his weird magnetism to the Feng family trio and their van, and the brief, confusing meeting with Ling Ling, Xu Feng’s life seemed like a string of events beyond his control.
He wanted to believe he had been in command of his actions, but deep down, Xu Feng knew he’d been swept along by the current, following his instincts, both the dragon’s and the survivor’s instincts.
Now, as he sorted through the remnants of Xu Zeng’s base—taking stock of everything his brother had hoarded—he could feel excitement and anxiety bubbling inside him.
Xu Feng had proven to be a bit of a hoarder himself, but even he had to admit that his brother had taken it to another level. He couldn’t help but laugh as he picked through stacks of tools, solar panels, and survival gear.
Some of the items he was familiar with from his last trip, and some were newer additions to the stockpile.
In typical Xu Feng fashion, he decided to do some last-minute decluttering, transferring unnecessary items out of his space. The massive gas tanker he’d impulsively stashed away came out first, followed by countless duplicates of supplies he’d grabbed just for the sake of having them.
The wave of nausea after the fuel taker was longer lived, but he began to feel steady again after some time. Then he continued his efforts to "declutter" without organizing...
It wasn’t that he didn’t value those things—he did—but there was a limit to how much even his dimension could hold. Thankfully there were more than enough crystal nuclei to keep him going after expending so much energy.
When he was inside his space, it felt endless, like a boundless world of his own. But the truth was, it had boundaries, and he could feel the edges of it pressing in when he overfilled it. The space was a luxury, but it was also a reminder that his power, like everything else, had limits—for now.
It made him think that perhaps the space would grow as he did, that it was tied to his own progress as a cultivator. It meant that, for now, he had to be wiser about what he stored.
This was another note he needed to take from Yujie.
The process of moving things in and out of his space was tedious, but crystal nuclei were abundant, and the energy they provided allowed him to speed through the task. He could feel his focus sharpening with each use of energy, a subtle but undeniable improvement in his control.
He hadn’t taken everything. Well, he hadn’t been able to take everything, even if he’d wanted to. There were just too many items. He left a considerable amount for Yujie and her sons. It only seemed fair, given how much they had helped him get here.
Besides, he couldn’t carry every bit of Xu Zeng’s legacy away from this world, and he didn’t want to.
Yujie’s primary interest lay in the solar panels, which she diligently made space for in her van. Xu Feng couldn’t help but marvel at how practical she was, and he admired her sense of foresight.
He wasn’t sure where exactly Xu Zeng had raided to amass such a supply of panels and solar-powered cars, but he was skilled at hoarding.
Yujie’s enthusiasm for all things solar-powered was infectious, and Xu Feng found himself stashing away a few smaller solar cars as well. They were too intriguing to leave behind, even if he wasn’t sure how or if they would ever be used in Dongzhou.
Maybe he would just use them in his space.
With the bulk of what he deemed essential now safely stowed, Xu Feng allowed himself a moment to relax, his gaze drifting to where Yujie was working. Her sons hovered nearby, their presence a source of warmth, like little suns orbiting their mother. Xu Feng felt a smile spread across his face.
He’d grown attached to them—far more than he’d expected. And now, as he prepared to move forward on his own path, he wanted to make sure that they would be safe. He left a new lock with four sets of keys on the side gate where they had entered.
When the Feng family departed, they could lock it from the outside. Should he or Xu Zeng ever return, they could use one of the main gates to access the side door.
He would take two sets of keys with him, and leave two with her.
With the practicalities settled, Xu Feng found his feet carrying him toward the greenhouse. It had been calling to him ever since they arrived, its presence a magnetic pull in the back of his mind.
Even while he was packing, eating, or sharing stories with Mingjun and Mingyue, his thoughts kept drifting back to it.
Entering the greenhouse, he felt a rush of life fill him, like a breath of fresh air after days of stale confinement. It was in better shape than he had feared, though many of the plants had wilted in Xu Zeng’s absence.
Still, some had thrived, resilient and determined despite the lack of care.
As he moved through the rows of plants, Xu Feng felt a wave of emotions crash over him—joy, nostalgia, a sense of purpose that he hadn’t realized he had been missing. He knelt beside a row of overgrown herbs, running his fingers through the leaves, feeling the faint pulse of energy that lingered within them.
He knew he wouldn’t stay here. He couldn’t. But he also couldn’t quite bring himself to take the greenhouse with him.
As much as he wanted to hoard it all, to pack it into his space where he could keep it safe, he knew that this place, this little haven of green, might serve Yujie and her sons better. If they chose to make use of it, he would leave it for them.
It was a small offering, a gesture of trust and gratitude.
"This is a huge greenhouse," Yujie’s voice cut through his thoughts. He hadn’t noticed her come in, but her presence didn’t disturb him.
He turned to find her standing by the entrance, Mingyue peering around her legs. "Yes," Xu Feng replied, his gaze drifting back to the rows of plants. "It should be able to feed, no, overfeed, Mingjun and Mingyue."
Yujie glanced at him, her expression a mixture of surprise and amusement. "If I didn’t know you a little, I’d think you were trying to court me and my buns. In fact," she added, a playful twinkle in her eyes, "I think you still are."
Xu Feng chuckled softly, meeting her gaze. "I am," he admitted with a lighthearted shrug. "I don’t know what your current base is like or if you’d prefer to stay there, but this place has everything. Everything except for water, anyway. Use it however you see fit, whether as a backup base or something more permanent. It’s here."
She didn’t respond right away, and in the silence that followed, Xu Feng felt the weight of his words settle between them. It was a strange feeling, offering something so substantial to a person he’d only met a short time ago, but it felt right.
They were on different paths, but they didn’t have to be strangers.
After a long pause, Yujie’s voice came out in a cracked whisper, a rare vulnerability shining through her usual confidence. "Thank you."
Those two words, so simple, carried a weight that made Xu Feng’s chest tighten. He glanced away, feeling a little out of place, but also strangely at ease.
He nodded, offering a small smile. "I’ll be heading out tonight after we share a meal. Just... leave the top floor of the west-side teaching building secured when you go."
He didn’t explain further—about his intentions, about the impossible-sounding journey he had planned. He wasn’t even sure he believed it all himself. But he trusted Yujie to take care of this place, just as he trusted her to find her own way.
Whatever lay ahead for both of them, they would each find their path. And that, for now, was enough. He just needed to leave some jam for the boys and all was settled.
