Chapter 530: Five Finger Discount

Yujie and her little buns... her sons—had accompanied Xu Feng to ransack one, two, three... too many children’s stores to count. The Feng Clan had a talent for using the five-finger discount.

It was a talent honed with lots of practice. They had a system so perfect that the boys were at least ten times more efficient than Xu Feng, even with their short legs.

Well, their legs weren’t that short for four-year-old buns, but still, anything below waist level was short in Xu Feng’s eyes. Even if he had gained a few inches since he... gave birth and, you know, transmigrated back to his "sort of" original world...

Life for Xu Feng had been one thing after another, with barely any time to breathe.

Whenever there was breathing time, it usually felt like the calm before another storm. He had never been one to enjoy fast-paced reality shows, but his life almost top any show he’d ever watched in high school.

How do you deal with too much stimulation in life? A normal person might count sheep to get to sleep.

But what does a dragon dad with an immortal’s memory and the experience of a modern-day boy do? He counts his spoils from the apocalyptic era, of course. The only way to acquire quality sleep.

Xu Feng was so excited that he threw caution into the wind. After the first store, he hadn’t been as selective in his "shopping" habits.

Throwing near-entire stores of items into his space was exhausting. It wore him out, even with the help of crystal cores to ease the fatigue. After a while, he reached a point where he simply couldn’t go on.

But there was a silver lining. This "practice" of tossing things into his space like a kleptomaniac allowed him to go wild—as no young kids these days would say—on anything he could get his hands on, was helping him improve.

Improve at what? At moving things into his space.

He was getting better at controlling his abilities, at managing the flow of energy it took to access his spatial storage. And it wasn’t just his space abilities; his wood abilities and the clarity of the memories he received from Xu Zeng also seemed to grow stronger.

It was as if pushing his limits in one area helped him better handle everything else. Though, admittedly, the memories of Xu Zeng’s life weren’t all that helpful here in his original apocalyptic world.

Back to his haul—the haul of a century. The former Z-tubers of Dongmen had nothing on him.

Xu Feng started with the best two cribs he could find. They were sturdy, top-of-the-line, with a price tag that could make a person faint. But after a moment of thought, he decided to grab a few backups, just in case.

During his pregnancy, Xuan Jian had ordered so many baby items, and Xu Feng couldn’t wait to show him the modern items he’d picked up for their children.

The simple cribs he’d had a carpenter make in Dongzhou could still be used, but what harm could more things do? His children deserved all the nice things in the world—all the worlds included.

Plus, if things went as planned, they’d be traveling a lot. Maybe those plans had changed, but being prepared was a virtue. Xu Feng prided himself on being a good dad.

A very good dad, stealing top-of-the-line cribs with way too many zeros on their price tags. After thinking about it for all of one second, he also grabbed a couple of car seats. He wasn’t sure how they’d work in a horse-drawn carriage, but why not? Improvisation was key, and they could figure it out later.

Strollers were a given. He already had one that he’d personally designed in Donghua—though it was shoddily made. But here, there were single strollers, double strollers—so many options!

He could put Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang to work pushing the strollers, or he could take the children for a stroll himself when he needed some space from his two men.

His genius might have seemed a little crazed, but each of his "purchases" was calculated to some extent.

Diapers. Oh, the diapers.

As soon as Xu Feng realized there were diapers for different stages of a child’s growth, he nearly had a headache. He’d been trying to estimate how many diapers he’d need for each stage when Yujie poured cold water over his careful calculations.

"Children use diapers like water. If you think you need a hundred, you actually need a thousand. My niece taught me that valuable lesson eight years ago," she said, looking almost proud to impart her wisdom to a new dad.

Xu Feng took her words to heart. He wasn’t about to waste this shopping spree, and he figured the more diapers, the better. However, instead of stocking up on too many disposable ones he opted for the newer, more expensive "organic" designer cloth diapers in multiple sizes.

They were reusable, and the plastic might have been too strange and hard to dispose of back in Dongzhou. Designer cloth diapers were considered luxurious before the apocalypse, so these were the items Xu Feng cleaned out entirely from each store.

Just a decade ago, they were considered ancient things that were used before plastic diapers were in use, but now they were back in style for the wealthy.

He took a few disposable diapers too, just for good measure.

The cloth diapers were surprisingly nice. They felt like high-quality designer goods, the kind of luxury that was mostly reserved for the wealthy who had enough servants to manage the constant washing and changing. Xu Feng felt a twinge of satisfaction as he’d stashed them away—his children deserved nothing less.

He didn’t stop there. Among his haul were all sorts of baby clothes—onesies, sleepers, cute hats, tiny mittens, socks fit for dolls, and more. He grabbed swaddles, weighted blankets, and all kinds of sleeping suits.

Did he know how to use them all? No, but most of the items came with instructions... right? Right... He hoped so.

Bottles and nipples were also on his list. Glass bottles seemed fancy, so of course, he chose those. There were different nipple sizes, and instead of bothering Yujie every time he needed help, he stocked up on multiple sizes for each type.

As for baby monitors, those seemed a bit too high-tech—even with all the solar panels Xu Zeng had collected at his base, they would look out of place in Dongzhou. But twin feeding pillows, nursery décor—bedding sets with cute themes, little art pieces to hang on the wall—those weren’t too much.

Baby carriers, diaper bags, play gyms, rattles, and plush toys all found their way into Xu Feng’s space. There were so many things made for children.

They danced across Xu Feng’s mind like sheep jumping over the moon—each item a small piece of security and comfort that he could offer his children. His haul made him happy, and the thought of his children enjoying all these things made it even better.

Who said you couldn’t put a price on happiness? They obviously couldn’t just take all the expensive items they wanted for free and then pretend to be a rich young mistress... that was how the saying went, right?
