Chapter 503: A Bird’s Eye View

The scene grew tangled in a matter of seconds, from confusion and hesitation to a continuation of the participants’ most dominant feelings. FengLi, or Long Feng, whoever was in control at that moment, seemed to want to continue their dance at the heart of things.

There was a small piece of him that wanted freedom from the never-ending cycle, but... but there were actual feelings involved. He had feelings for both the dragon and the snake. It wasn’t something that happened overnight, but enduring feelings they had nurtured over several lifetimes.

It wasn’t just Long Feng who felt like he was parched. The other two seemed equally entangled, thirsting for something beyond their grasp. It was confusing, and even for someone who’d lived so many lives and should have a wealth of wisdom, it was hard to extricate himself from the moment, especially when things had already taken this turn.

It was an act first and talk it out later... or never... no, just later. Despite the lack of thought, they would eventually have to talk things out. It would be a rehash of old feelings and conversations, but it was an unavoidable step.

Xu Feng knew exactly what would happen next. FengLi and Long Feng might have been overcome by emotions, feelings of love, and the heat of the moment, the influence of alcohol played a part as well, but Xu Feng was like a buoy in a vast ocean, bobbing in and out of the past few days. This was his memories after all.

He was FengLi and he was also Long Feng. They were all one and the same. One, a young dragon exploring a new world and a new romantic partner, another an older being that had lived through several lifetimes finding and losing love in some sort of never-ending cycle, and finally him... he wasn’t tied to any of this NOW.

These were clearly him; he felt the pull in his chest every time "Brother Jian" was near him, and the confusion when "Dong Yang" looked at him or his "prey." There were so many feelings just under the surface and those that had already begun to bubble over.

Even knowing all that had happened, the most knowledgeable version of himself, "Long Feng," still couldn’t extricate himself from this mess, and Xu Feng KNEW he wouldn’t remove himself from the mess.

This was a tale as old as time, remember?

The tension in the room was one only Xu Feng seemed to feel as the trio seemed too engrossed in being in each other’s arms again. There were many words unsaid, and many things undone, but above all else, the sense of skin hunger seemed to permeate the air.

It was a hunger emanating from all three participants, spanning all their connected lives. Even if a pair was able to live a fulfilling life, the third would end up living without the other two. It had happened so many times over. They would all feel somewhat hollow like something was missing.

It was a sick way to live. An unending curse.

Xu Feng’s brows furrowed as the word curse echoed in his thoughts. Even the taste of the word on his tongue felt disgusting, but right. It felt like all of this was some sort of sick joke to someone. Only for a fraction of a lifetime could something like this happen where all three would awaken and live together in some sort of harmony... sometimes... if they were lucky enough.

But their harmony always had an expiration date, and the next lives following their brief harmony were always infinitely harder like some sort of punishment.

Xu Feng couldn’t help but wonder who Long Feng had angered to cause this painful existence. Because it was an intentional cycle of pain and hardship, and Xu Feng couldn’t remember what had started it. He wasn’t sure if even Long Feng remembered, it wasn’t a memory he could access, hazy or not. It wasn’t even available.

His chest throbbed, and Xu Feng clutched at his aching heart almost half-heartedly. He couldn’t decide if he deserved the pain or not. As his vision moved from an overhead view to a bystander, watching a tangle of bodies, he felt more and less anxious in the same breath.

While this scene was happening in real time for both Long Feng and FengLi, Xu Feng had come to a realization, this was all a memory. It wasn’t currently happening. It was something that had happened in the past, something he was a part of.

It felt strange, but as he thought and the scene continued on, future scenes played in his mind’s eyes. FengLi and Long Feng would become one. Not all of Long Feng’s memories could exist in FengLi’s body. It was too fast, and such a young dragon couldn’t contain so much power, but a shadow of the original would stay with him for the duration of this lifetime.

It would be the same for ’Brother Jian’ and ’Dong Yang,’ and after this "special scene" ended, all three would decide to live their lives together. This was a sped-up version of the drama, but after some arguments, and fighting about the fragments of their past lives they remembered, the three were reluctant to part.

It should be a happy ending, but it was actually the most tragic ending for Long Feng.

Xu Feng watched the three men from a distance. He wasn’t sure when he’d been removed from FengLi and Long Feng’s body and became merely a bystander.

It was best like this though. He wasn’t caught up in his emotions, and the visions of the past streaming in his head didn’t seem like it would engulf him anymore.

Watching the scene that was live, and the replays of previous lives all seemed to numb him. Was it worth it?

’Brother Jian’s’ gaze flickered between ’FengLi’ and ’Dong Yang,’ sensing the underlying currents of emotions but not entirely able to extricate himself from his own.

He was a warrior, a guardian, and while he understood loyalty and affection, this intricate web of feelings was centuries old. His instincts told him to protect FengLi, to keep him close, but there was also a strange draw towards Dong Yang, a curiosity that he couldn’t quite place.

A voice came from beside Xu Feng, almost causing him to jump out of his skin. Was he actually in skin or was he also a phantom? Xu Feng wasn’t sure, but he was still shocked by the other standing to the side, watching the scene unfold with angry eyes.

Xuan Jian mockingly repeated a line ’Brother Jian’ would say to reassure ’FengLi’ after the night ended. "We are stronger together, and there is no need for jealousy or rivalry. We can face whatever comes our way as a united front."

They were light words filled with hope and affection, but the one who bore the weight of their love was often Long Feng/FengLi.

Xu Feng watched the angry man and felt his chest restrict further. He hadn’t realized when Xuan Jian had begun watching, but the other man knew how the story would end too. If he didn’t why would he be mocking himself so heartlessly?
