Chapter 484: ...A Problem! In Space!

While their clothes— Bai Mo, Xu Zeng, and Xu Hu Zhe— were of much lower quality since they purchased them from the villagers, they were at least clean. The two tall men didn’t quite fit their clothes, but again, at least they were clean.

They were offered food by the villagers which was accepted with the exchange of copper coins, but offers to sleep in the village were turned down. Just because they were clean didn’t mean they were lulled into a false sense of security.

Nanshan was home, home was safety, and that was their goal.

Changing out drivers they got back on their way. Chun and Xu Hu Zhe would drive through the night and took over from Zhang Cai and Zhang Hui, who drove that day.

Everything was good. Right?

Nope.

Arguing with villagers, being kidnapped, fighting bandits, all of this was not okay, but that wasn’t the end of their troubles. The trifecta wasn’t enough problems for their group, there had to be something extra to round out their trip.

As Xu Zeng sat in the carriage, Bai Mo asleep by his side, the wounded Ping across from him with two babies each in their own baskets, he was not at ease. Why?

There was a big problem... he could retrieve whatever he wanted from the space, but not a certain pair of eggs...

The trip took a much shorter time with the additional horses, two oxen, and one cow. It was smooth sailing with all the drivers as well.

The additional animals were well-liked by Xu Hu Zhe and even Bai Mo. Like most animals, their new additions didn’t like Xu Zeng, except the oxen Xu Hu Zhe favored. It was more obedient than the horses... except the stallion, which in the light of day, they realized had a lovely blue coat and a very stubborn temper.

The group of boys seems in awe of the blue horse. It was rumored to have almost stepped on the bandit lord a few times, but none of the bandits had the heart to discipline it, it made their people look even more noble among their group of bandits.

The ill-tempered thing didn’t show that same attitude with this group of immortal blood carriers and one demon beast. It was obviously attached to Xu Hu Zhe almost immediately, like a loyal servant.

Xu Hu Zhe led their way back home and switched off occasionally with the boys, but one of their original party needed to be awake at all times, and he was awake way too often.

Now that he was finally asleep, the snake had overslept and missed his turn to lead, but no one had the heart to wake him up. Bai Mo was also sleeping soundly in their carriage. It was a beautiful sight that Xu Zeng enjoyed before he focused on his energy level.

His energy was nice and steady, after all, he’d swallowed another energy stone before moving their newly acquired treasure. He had an abundance of energy and could retrieve items from the space... except the most important things to retrieve.

The memorial tablet in his hand was stroked once, then, he put his dad’s memorial tablet back and said a silent prayer... ’Please watch over my nephews.’

He couldn’t enter his space, and he couldn’t retrieve his nephews, what else was he meant to do? This was a big mess, but one he couldn’t have avoided. The space wouldn’t obey him fully. It was like it wanted to spend time with the two eggs as well.

"Sigh."

Other than sigh, there was nothing else that could be done.

It’s better not to tell the two by his side until they’ve reached home safely... hopefully, the Torann would have a method they could try. Xuan Jian was also stuck in Dongzhou like him, but he had come from the world outside and likely knew much more about their world.

Xuan Jian was Xu Zeng’s hope. His nephew’s hope...

Till they reached Nanshan Estate, Xu Zeng would protect them and their group, there would be no more bandit attacks if he could help it. His heart couldn’t take it if either of his partners were hurt or lost. They even had two babies to care for.

Xu Zeng watched the two babies, both too thin for his liking in their baskets. They slept more than anyone else, not because they were babies, but because they were so malnourished, they hardly had the strength to stay awake or cry.

Even the ger-born child was sickly looking, his advantage taken away. Xu Zeng tried to forget the fond memories he had for his "little brothers." They may no longer want him and see him as a "beggar," but strangely, he was still fond of small children.

The person in charge of the babies was primarily him, he had the most experience with children. The three boys and Zhang Hui seemed surprised the babies rarely left their carriage. Whenever their group stopped, it was also to pick up rations for the babies.

Even with these stops, they were able to make headway during their journey home. In less than two more days, they would reach their destination.

His hands were empty a moment ago, but Xu Zeng couldn’t help but try one more time to retrieve his nephews.

Nothing happened... He tried with his dad’s tablet, which moved from their carriage to the space easily in both directions.

It was best to pretend everything was fine. Two more days... no, less than that. Hopefully, Xuan Jian had returned from Jinghua already.

[In the space]

Suddenly the gray memorial tablet reappeared back in a green space teeming with life. The warmth from Xu Zeng’s hands still coated the stone.

What should have been a nice empty piece of land surrounded by the bandit’s treasure was... land covered in the bandit’s treasure, but the surrounding areas weren’t empty.

There were trailers, tiny houses, solar panels, a whole entire glass greenhouse, what looked like an entire library, two solar cars, solar bicycles, farming gear, hiking gear, and entirely too much technology... it was like a hoarder’s paradise.

To top it all off, the two eggs that should have been nestled in the treasure were nestled somewhere else, they had rolled about exploring their "kingdom" like the little overlords they were.

The space seemed to like them very much and after nearly two weeks of being dormant, they went rampant in this new land. A grey friend and a silver friend were monarchs here, doing as they pleased.

The recently upgraded space watched them like a dedicated nanny.

A certain egg tried to roll into the river, nope, redirected to the closed-off soaking pool that was recently made.

Almost rolled into a tree, nope, suddenly rolled into a pile of leaves.

Harassing the bees in the space? Nope, the bees suddenly feel threatened and hide away.

It was unknown how much energy these eggs had, and it seemed the space, like any good nanny, could also get tired of energetic little ones. Soon the curious little eggs who liked the space that reminded them of their dad were redirected to a comfortable place...

...a place with treasures the space would only share with them.
