The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 482: Houston...

Chapter 482: Houston...

There was treasure. There was also a new group of people.

The four women, in either a state of daze or excitement, had all been unsure about their next move. Xu Hu Zhe, a big masked man, had told them to gather their things, was this a wise decision?

The woman, Rui was happy to lose some burdensome baggage. A child was hard to care for, especially with a lack of food to feed the girl, it was difficult to keep her from crying in hunger. This was true, but she was also unsure if she should go along with some unknown man’s demands.

Then again, the state of the bandits was miserable, it was uncertain if these three had single-handedly dealt with the bandits... no that was impossible, but there was no one else.

Rui wasn’t the only one with doubt written all over her face. It felt strange being liberated and being liberated by a small group of half-grown children. The only unmasked of their three, Bai Mo, had a youthful-looking face that didn’t help the misunderstandings.

The three boys weren’t thinking the same things at all. Both Chun and the badly wounded Ping seemed to trust Zhang Cai with their lives. Zhang Hui was biting her lips but didn’t seem to disagree even after Zhang Cai carefully explained what was happening.

Watching him slowly repeat the information so his sister could read his lips was somehow touching. Instead of arguing, she simply took charge of the baby in her brother’s hands allowing him to retrieve their things quickly.

If her brother was going, she was going too. They wouldn’t be separated. Even if she was useless to others, her brother still needed her protection.

Zhang Hui bowed deeply baby in tow as soon as the able-bodied in their group left to pick up their belongings. She completely ignored the four women who were still assessing the situation. They seemed to ignore her as well.

Ping also tried to bow, but it was difficult enough for him to carry the larger baby, and keep himself upright with Chun and Zhang Cai gone temporarily.

In the end, no one was left behind.

Despite Zhang Hui’s status of being "imperfect," she was indeed a talented woman. She could even drive a bullock cart on her own, something even a village woman wouldn’t have free reign to do in this day and age.

Zhang Hui bravely drove the largest carriage that was now filled with bandits with gruesome-looking appearances. She initially made a disgusted face, but she didn’t back down from the task at all, riding boldly with her brother to ensure none of the bandits woke up.

Chun drove the other stolen bullock cart with the four women and all their baggage. It was much smaller than the bandit’s cart, but it was more than enough space for them.

The final vehicle was the rented carriage that was driven by Xu Hu Zhe with Bai Mo, Xu Zeng, the wounded Ping, and two babies nestled inside. This carriage was also thought to have the "treasures" taken from the bandits.

As far as the newcomers knew, the treasures were stowed away in that carriage out of sight. What other theory could they have? What kind of idiots would leave the treasure behind?

The four women seemed meek and well-behaved, but they all knew that the bandit’s treasures couldn’t all fit in a single carriage. The bolder ones were already making their plans to come back to this mountain village at a later time.

What they didn’t know was not only were the treasures swept away by a certain silver-haired man, but everything of use was taken away. Everything. Even the feed for the horses and the oxen, the chickens and pigs, and any stored away food was taken.

The bandit’s village was burglarized, cleanly by a certain demon beast.

The five horses were taken in an upright manner, and were joined to the carriage or to the large bullock cart and the small bullock cart suddenly had two oxen and one milk cow pulling it.

With the extra "horsepower," the three loads were effortlessly pulled to their destination.

Xu Hu Zhe was upset he couldn’t return to the town to teach the attendant at the inn a lesson, but he knew it was best to think about those with him and their safety. Their destination was a farther town, one that was closer to Nanshan.

Traveling all night was hard on everyone, but it was for the best to put some distance between themselves and their handy work. If there were more bandits nearby, they would make them work to track them.

By daybreak, they reached the town of Chin. It wasn’t as prosperous as Yilin Town but was much bigger than the one at the foot of the Tang bandit’s mountain base. The four women seemed like they were ready to bolt once they saw the gates of Chin, but Bai Mo took the lead to offer them silver.

"Come take this to start your lives over."

Whether they chose to work in the red-light district of Chin, or go back to their hometown and reunite with whoever they might still hold dear, was up to them. If they truly planned to start their lives over in this or another town, that would be for the best.

Winter was coming, and while Bai Mo didn’t know what that was like for most normal people, he gave them enough to live in a town like Yilin. This sum would be more than enough to live in Chin.

"A hundred!" The first woman’s eyes bulged. She wanted to bolt with the silver it was more money than she had ever seen. She didn’t want to share it with the other women. She could become a landlord in a nice village or even buy a small house in a town and still have enough money to care for herself.

Village life would be the best option for them though. They couldn’t have their own households like a ger, but in a village, they could claim to be widows and start a new life much easier.

To the woman’s surprise, she wasn’t the only one given silver, each woman was given a pouch of their own. Even the most disenchanted woman had a smile on her face. This was truly the start of a new beginning for them.

Rui hadn’t shouted out the amount in her pouch like the one idiot. She kept the amount she had hidden. She was given 125 taels of silver! Thinking she was being favored by the rich ger, she batted her eyes at Bai Mo.

Even if she was not a pure flower, a man and a ger both must have needs, perhaps she should offer to hang around like the damaged goods— Zhang Hui. As she was contemplating her next move, the icy glares she received from both Xu Hu Zhe and Xu Zeng had her frozen on the spot.

There was no hostility before, why were the two masked men glaring at her? Without lingering to find an answer, her self-preservation skills kicked in, and like the other three women, she scattered at the speed of light.

Where were they going? They still didn’t know.
