The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 462: Cornered

Chapter 462: Cornered

In only a few heartbeats, with the screams coming from the crazed woman, a group of women had surrounded the head of the village. Normally Xu Zeng would have continued on and hoped to get away from the prying eyes and incessant noise, but he wasn’t fully in charge of his own body.

The woman, crazy and deranged, had seemed to have lost some brain power in the last year. Something must have happened to her head because without warning, she sprinted to Xu Zeng as if to tackle him.

He dodged out of the way easily and wanted to continue forward, but the group of women momentarily disoriented him.

"Is it really Xu Zeng?"

"How could he continue to grow? He was already as tall as a man, now he’s taller than his father!"

"The hair color is correct, but that mask... what if it’s a man?"

The group of women were appraising him like a piece of meat. From his head to his toes, everything was fair game. It wasn’t like they were searching for some long-lost member of their village, or even a junior who had been missing without much notice for an entire year.

Instead of looking at him with disgusted or pitying eyes like they did in the past, they now looked at him like an object. He was likely never a real person to them, and now he was less so.

Their eyes took in the quality of the clothes he was wearing— even the muted colors and simpler fabrics were leagues above the patched clothing he wore only the year before. He’d spent months in an apocalypse-torn world, yet he was taller and thicker now than he was when he lived in Sun Village.

He was more well-moisturized in a zombie apocalypse than as a resident of Sun Village.

It was apparent the women could tell his life had become much better wherever he’d gone. The fourth woman was focused on the mask he wore. Not the one Xuan Jian had made for him, but the one he preferred to wear, Xu Hu Zhe’s mask.

They would have rioted if they were close enough to the more intricate-looking mask. It looked like it cost more, but the materials of this mask were more valuable.

Still, this woman had enough gall— to her, Xu Zeng was still the ger who only lived by their goodwill and was less than the pigs he slept beside, she could do as she pleased— without a second thought, she reached out to casually grab the mask covering the silver-haired ger’s face.

Xu Zeng stepped to the side swiftly, dodging the woman’s touch. He knew her, he knew them all. The five women present were all the closest to his stepmother. They hadn’t abused him other than verbally, and they all looked down on him openly after his dad’s death.

There were a few in the village who looked at him with pity and not disgust, but these were not them. These women were clearly in the realm of disgust and even showed a fair share of glee at his misfortunes.

Why would he let one of them touch him, or even the mask his brother had made— the mask Xu Hu Zhe wore? It was even worse than them directly touching him.

As he dodged away from the creeping hand, Xu Zeng found himself several kilograms heavier. He hadn’t gained weight in the span of seconds, nor had he somehow unknowingly switched between his ger and male form— he didn’t have any energy for that.

Why was he suddenly heavier? The crazed woman had latched onto his legs.

She was not only holding onto him with arms like vice grips, her legs were wrapped around him like a zong-yi. She had lost all sense of propriety, clinging to him as if her life depended on it.

Xu Zeng felt confused.

Why was she touching him? He was a ger, and she had been his ’stepmother,’ but they had never been that close. Why did she feel the need to cling to him?

A brief thought touched his mind. Weren’t men, women, and gers to keep their distance from each other? It wasn’t something he hadn’t known before, but it was on the forefront of his brain after hearing all the convincing words from Bai Mo.

That was why he couldn’t kiss Momo and Xu Hu Zhe anymore. It would be bad for their reputations— he didn’t care about his, but should he care about it now? Shouldn’t he want to keep a clean reputation for Bai Mo and Xu Hu Zhe’s sake?

The thought flashed by in a second, and Xu Zeng began to act on his impulse immediately, trying to shake off the vermin he’d picked up somehow.

All he wanted to do was leave Sun Village cleanly and avoid that family, but here he was attached to the rotten fruit— his stepmother— who ruined the barrel for him— his ’father.’

As he shook with a scrunched-up forehead, Xu Zeng was single-mindedly focused on leaving the village, and being detached from the truest ill-bringer, she began to wail and moan much louder than she had before.

Instantly, his ears felt uncomfortable, and his head felt jumbled— it was the screech of a banshee from hell.

"This unfilial child! Your father and I did everything for you. We managed to find a wealthy family in the town for you to marry, yet you never come home. When things go bad in your marriage, now you come back to steal from us!!!!" She started spewing garbage once again.

It was like she was mixing all the bad stories she had ever heard into one, without a plausible end or beginning. It felt ridiculous to Xu Zeng, but it was more ridiculous how strong this lazy woman was.

When he lived in Sun Village, she always shirked her responsibilities as a mother, and on the farmland. How did someone who was so "pampered" by his father end up being so strong?

"Ayaaaaa!!! Awoooo!!" And she was also incomparably loud. Xu Zeng’s head was now ringing being so close to her wailing.
