The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 423: A Poisionous Den

Chapter 423: A Poisionous Den

Xuan Yang’s gaze met his grandfather’s, his words delivered with a calm yet firm demeanor. "If the Xuan family had extended their courtesy earlier, perhaps Xu Feng could have provided you with tea...

"But alas, the timing is not conducive for such arrangements. Perhaps once our business ventures begin, there will be more ample opportunities to secure rare teas for you, grandfather."

Xuan Muchen’s reaction was immediately noticeable, a flicker of satisfaction crossing his features as he stroked his chin in contemplation.

The small grin that danced upon his lips betrayed a sense of amusement, as if he had orchestrated this exchange with calculated precision.

Although Xuan Yang suspected that his grandfather had not anticipated a response from him, the diversion had evidently served its purpose.

Maybe the silver haired ger was more useful than he thought? Xuan Muchen began entertaining the idea of speaking to Lady Xuan about this whole affair. Maybe it was in his best interest to redirect the woman’s attentions elsewhere?

The old snake was initially going to let the two fight it out, but Xu Feng might be worth supporting in earnest. It was obvious Xuan Yang was enthralled by the ger.

"As for Xuan Jian," Xuan Yang returned to the first question, the gaze in his eyes sharp. "He will be here shortly. I trust that."

"Hmmm," Xuan Muchen approved of this response, his grandson was being amiable and answering properly. This he could support, a grandson who knew to respect his elders and not always keep everything bottled up.

They weren’t the enemy after all. If one Xuan succeeded, they all did.

The overwhelming joy in Xuan Muchen’s eyes, set off the alarm bells in Xuan Yang’s own, but at the very least, he received his grandfather’s word.

Their business would be protected by the old snake, still, this young snake had learned a trick or two from the old one.

"You shouldn’t be too worried about your wife," Xuan Muchen said more welcomingly this time. "I know you are hesitant to have Xuan Jian leave his side now that the ger is pregnant, but your mother only wants to send a physician to check on him. Anything outside of that, this old man won’t stand for."

Xuan Yang didn’t answer and instead allowed the old man to chatter in happiness. The old snake was clearly excited. In his eyes, while he’d lost the game, he’d outsmarted his grandson.

Their plan was working out smoothly and he became slightly careless.

"The physician will check the state of your wife, and that is all. Your mother sent people, but so have I. I won’t allow them to do anything inappropriate in your home."

Xuan Yang wasn’t sure if the old man was quite done yet, but he’d had enough of this particular charade. This family was not a family. Not even this grandfather should be in his children’s lives.

Xu Feng had sacrificed too much to let them use his children as pawns.

"Thank you grandfather for the game, and the promise. I’ll draw up a contract and have it sent to you for review and signature. I look forward to our collaboration."

Xuan Muchen’s smile froze in place as his brows furrowed, ’contract?’ The question repeated in his head a few times before he remembered the foolishness Xuan Yang’s ger had gotten the stupid woman, Lady Xuan, to sign with witnesses present.

Now Xuan Yang expected him to sign one to solidify the deal they’d made? Xuan Yang didn’t trust him to keep his word.

Was this business so important to him? Was he so upset Lady Xuan refused to send him and his wife any silver in the last four or five months?

"You would do this to me? You would look down on—" Xuan Muchen hadn’t quite finished hurling insults at Xu Feng and Lady Xuan in his head when he finally looked back up to question his grandson.

But the last thing he saw was Jun’s back as he retreated from the room. Xuan Yang had already bowed lightly to the old man, rolled his eyes, and retreated from the room swiftly.

As Xuan Yang moved down the corridor his head throbbed at his momentary weakness.

Only moments ago he was questioning himself and his choice to keep Da Long and Xiao Long away from Xuan Muchen, and a few seconds later the old man showed his compliance with the treachery of the rest of the family.

He and Xuan Jian were right to have their children and Xu Zeng moved to Bai Mo’s mansion during their absence. Xuan Yang hoped they had decided to have them transferred even further away. Somewhere far from Yilin town would be best.

Both Xuan Muchen and Lady Xuan had people stalking their estate. There was nothing good to come after Xuan Jian set off on his trip to Jinghua.

Xuan Yang’s fists clenched tightly as he walked down the corridor steadily, passing the servants smiling at him intentionally along the way.

Xuan Yang wanted to wait till they got back to his private room, but at the end of the corridor, he saw one of Xuan Muyang’s bastard children smiling at him.

With disgust in his eyes, he knew this conversation wouldn’t be short. The woman should be his half sister, but she had been trying to find her way into his bed for the last several weeks.

"Have you heard anything from—" Xuan Yang whispered urgently to Jia and Jun behind him. His anxiousness at seeing the woman waiting for him soured his mood further.

"The master, will set off today," Jia replied promptly, knowing exactly what Xuan Yang would ask. He had indeed gotten notice from Xuan Jian, that was why he nearly came late to the game of wit between the grandfather and grandson. "There is a letter for you."

With that last addition, Xuan Yang’s smile unconsciously bloomed on his face. No matter what Xuan Jian needed to send to him, at least the other man would be by his side soon.

He could stay in this poisonous den for another day or two.
