Chapter 378: The Torann
Chapter 378: The Torann
In Xu Feng’s presence, Xuan Jian’s icy looks would relax, the iceberg façade giving way to the warmth that now seemed elusive without his lost lover.
The only thing that could melt a dragon’s heart was his mate, no, his mates. And, neither of them were present...
Jie and Bo, the two men who had been constant companions to Xuan Jian, observed their master with keen interest as they "assisted" him in the laborious task of replacing the remaining corroded wood beams in Xu Feng’s greenhouse.
It was no small feat, mending the worn out structures and rice paper that had endured seasons of wear without disrupting the delicate spirit plants nurtured by their master’s departed mate.
In understanding the Torann, the two men held a depth of knowledge that surpassed the comprehension of anyone else in this realm. Although they lacked draconic heritage, they and their families had faithfully served the dragon family for numerous generations.
Their journey with Xuan Jian began when they were already teenagers, leaving their homes to follow the once chubby six year old on a fourteen year long adventure.
Witnessing his growth and evolution, they never anticipated that he would fall in love with a snake beast, Xuan Yang—an unassuming crossbreed descendant of an average snake bloodline, with the peculiar title of "immortal bloodline carrier."
And, of course, there was the pure demon beast, Xu Feng, who turned out to possess a high bloodline—far exceeding their initial expectations.
Initially skeptical about the viability of these relationships, they were proven wrong by the depth of affection between Xuan Jian, Xuan Yang, and Xu Feng.
Now, with Xu Feng’s absence casting a shadow, not only did their master grieve the loss of one of his mates, but they, too, longed for the mischievous ger who had become a part of their lives.
Xu Feng never ceased to amaze them. A ger who didn’t conform to the standards of the kingdom. Even as his background became clearer and more cloudy simultaneously, he never ceased to amaze them.
To complicate matters, the revelation that Xu Feng had left behind offspring took them by surprise. The pregnancy of the ger wasn’t a surprise.
But shouldn’t the cubs be of snake blood or fox cubs? N,o the ger was of a high bloodline, one with strong compatibility with dragons.
There were no special fruits or pills used to help him conceive, and he still birthed not just one, but two cubs.
They were initially unaware that he had sired Xuan Jian’s children, the two were further shocked to discover that Da Long and Xiao Long were unmistakably dragon cubs.
Their power was undeniable, even within the confines of this energy barrier; their vitality radiated strength too potent to be anything else.
In the slightly stifling silence of the ancient greenhouse, all that could be heard were the background noises as they worked.
Jie and Bo diligently toiled, unaware of their master’s newest contemplations.
The setup of the new beams unfolded silently, a meticulous dance of construction within the weathered structure. Little did they know that Xuan Jian, the only known dragon in this realm, harbored plans to make this desolate desert his permanent home.
This clearly forsaken world was where he was planning to breathe his last breath.
A new generation of Torann had been birthed by Xu Feng, to them this was a living legacy and deserving of the highest honor.
If he stayed in this lower level world he would likely help it. His presence was a stability and a blessing here. Dragons were after all the darlings of heaven and the heavenly Dao tended to favor them where possible.
This often ensured that even the most obscure dragonborn had opportunities to thrive and escape, even in times of turmoil and destruction. There was always opportunity for the dragonborn the question is what choices the dragonborn would make.
Choice was always a heavy responsibility.
However, the greatest trial he faced in this life was the loss of Xu Feng. All he yearned for was to hold Xuan Yang close, mourning Xu Feng for the rest of his days.
His heart ached at the thought of Xuan Yang’s eventual exhaustion of lifespan and the day when all three of them would find eternal rest in this very place—they would be together then.
Until that time, he and Xuan Yang had two cubs to raise.
Xuan Jian’s jaw clenched with a strength capable of crushing teeth and dislocating jaws.
The desire to keep Xuan Yang close, to protect him from any harm, battled fiercely with the responsibility he felt toward Da Long and Xiao Long.
Everything in him wanted to drag the other man back here so he could keep him close and never let anything happen to his remaining lover, but he couldn’t bear to leave Da Long and Xiao Long alone.
The dragon’s favor from the heavens was clearly true. They had sent a clear blessing in the form of Xu Zeng.
Xuan Jian found a natural and trustworthy cub sitter, a proven trustworthy presence to watch over the offspring.
It had already been nearly two months since Xu Zeng had come to Nanshan Estate, and the two had many hard conversations.
While Xuan Jian prided himself on his silent nature—that was far from fact when Xu Feng was around and he and Xuan Yang were alone—Xu Zeng seemed worse than him. The other party hardly spoke unless spoken to.
Xu Zeng did seem to melt around his cubs though. He was warm and teasing with Da Long and Xiao Long, his personality showing glimpses of his brother, Xu Feng.
Xuan Jian had almost immediately let his guard down around his brother in law, sharing his origins freely. He wished he shared more about his past with Xu Feng and maybe this was a way to make up for that.
In any case, it was obvious Xu Zeng had more memories of his and his brother’s heritage than Xu Feng did.
While Xuan Jian wanted to know as much about his lover as possible, he didn’t want to alienate his brother in law.
The fact that Xu Zeng and Xu Hu Zhe seemed to get along well, calmed Xuan Jian’s worries further. He could trust Xu Zeng even more with Xu Hu Zhe at his side, the latter was loyal to a fault.
Xuan Jian was most concerned with Xuan Yang’s continued absence...
