The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 352: False Alarm
Chapter 352: False Alarm
It wasn’t completely unbiased trust...
He was maybe a little soft hearted watching the little toddler.
Xu Feng’s keen eyes surveyed the small family before him, taking in the disheveled appearance of Midwife Lee still sitting near him at the table. The ger, whose once vibrant youth seemed drained by the harsh hands of life, displayed a mismatch of neatness and weariness.
His hair, a disheveled bun of yellowed locks, stood out bluntly against the image of a man who should have had luscious black strands and a vibrant—or at least normal—complexion.
Though he appeared tidy, the clothes hanging on his frame told a tale of raggedness and age, emphasizing the struggles he had endured. The robes were too big for his rail thin frame, his collar bones clearly visible.
Midwife Lee, the ’dad’ to two children, sat there, only a year or so older than Xu Feng, yet bearing the burden of a decade worn life.
It was a heartbreaking sight, the neatness of his appearance clashing with the worn out fabric that adorned his figure. Xu Feng couldn’t help but be drawn to the man’s eyes, which should have been filled with youthful vigor but instead reflected dullness and cracks, like a weathered canvas.
His gaze then shifted to the two children, the 5 or 6-year-old girl and the toddling little ger with a shy but sweet smile. Both seemed small and undernourished, their stature raising questions about the fate of those side tracked by life’s unpredictable turns.
Was this really the norm in Dongzhou or just Donghua? Or did Xu Feng just attract the most impoverished residents of the kingdom?
The young girl, quiet and polite, displayed an unsettling maturity for her age, one that was eerily similar to Sans’.
The toddler, lacking the usual energy and activity typical of his age, moved with an obedience that spoke volumes about their lives in Han Village.
Xu Feng hoped that with a stable and nurturing environment, these children, like Si and San, would break out of their shells and regain a healthier appearance. The hope of watching them flourish fueled his determination to offer them a place to live.
As the room fell silent, Xu Feng couldn’t suppress a gentle smile. Despite their thin frames and tattered clothes, the sincerity emanating from this little family touched him.
If they were genuine, and even if they weren’t, he knew that if they became bear children one day it would be Midwife Lee’s responsibility.
What he really needed to worry about was if his children would become bear children...If they did, he could just pawn them off to their father and papa!
Okay so his twins weren’t born yet, but Xu Feng was determined to have a distinct name for all three of them—Xu Feng, Xuan Jian, and Xuan Yang. He was claiming dad, and no one was going to call him mother...
It just didn’t feel right...
Si and San, their welcoming and host like demeanors momentarily halted, regarding the newcomers with a mix of nervousness and excitement following Xu Feng’s last statement.
They stopped pretending to keep the two children entertained, nervous or excited about the new additions—it wasn’t clear whether they had their guards up or not.
Meanwhile, Midwife Lee’s daughter, unlike her reserved little brother, radiated an unmistakable sense of excitement, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. The room, once hushed, now held the promise of newfound connections and something more.
The fact that Midwife Lee had volunteered his life story willingly with all the unfortunate details, and wasn’t even looking for additional silver, was enough of a green light for Xu Feng.
The joy on the little girl’s face was heart breaking but cute and it cemented his decision. The little ger didn’t seem to understand the situation at all, but seeing his dad cry, he looked worried, even horrified.
Tears streamed down Midwife Lee’s face slowly and steadily as he cried silently at the table. Midwife Lee had led a hard life, but had raised loving children.
"A...blergh" Xu Feng had opened his mouth to congratulate Midwife Lee for winning the child lottery, when his breakfast joined the remains of the trio’s breakfast still remaining at the table.
"Master!"
"Master Xu!"
Both Si and San were so shocked, that they reverted to their old title for Xu Feng in the heat of the moment.
The tall silver haired ger had probably ruined something else for the ger in front of him. Would Midwife Lee be able to look at food the same way again?
Xu Feng raised his hand to calm the two girls down, but the room swam. And in a moment, all he saw was black.
.
.
.
Xu Feng stirred from his slumber, eyelids fluttering open to a jarring assault of light before shutting quickly. The room felt alive with energy, and the distinctive scent of his lovers wrapped around him like a familiar embrace.
The calming aura they exuded nudged him back into a state of restful consciousness, the warmth of his bed cradling him like a cocoon.
Memories flooded back, like a mischievous river bursting its banks. The image of Midwife Lee’s face, a mix of horror and hilarity, as he tumbled into his own vomit, replayed in Xu Feng’s mind.
A chuckle bubbled up from within him, escaping into the air like a mischievous sprite. "Giving him more trauma," he mumbled with a playful grin, reveling in the absurdity of the situation.
...It wasn’t funny...only a little?
His brain, still groggy and moving at its own languid pace, contrasted sharply with the alert minds of his lovers. Xuan Jian’s forehead found a resting place against Xu Feng’s, a silent gesture of concern and affection.
Xuan Yang, ever the annoying snake young master, voiced his worry with a sharp edge, "Yes, you do enjoy traumatizing Xuan Jian and me, do you not?"
The words, laced with a teasing accusation, sliced through the air, and for a moment, Xu Feng’s carefree grin faltered. His lips formed into a straight line, though the warmth of Xuan Jian’s proximity eased the sting of those words.
One lover, sweet as honey; the other, a tyrant draped in icy composure. It wasn’t his fault he had a talent for passing out, he mused, trying to brush off the concern-filled rebuke.
As he lay there, enveloped in the aftermath of his own amusement, the thought flitted through his mind, ’At least Truck-kun has never hit me.’
The absurdity of his own life brought forth another chuckle, and Xu Feng surrendered to the laughter, carried away on the gentle waves of his lovers’ concern.
