The Gentleman at the End
Chapter 569 - 567: The Past

Chapter 569: Chapter 567: The Past

After undergoing the "Pilgrimage" process required to meet with the Tenth Abyss, Yi Chen’s "Three Kneels and Nine Proestrations" made the memories related to the Death God Statue become clear.

The reason why Yi Chen was able to transcend worlds, and why he carried the black liquid symbolizing death into rebirth in this world, is directly related to that divine statue associated with Death.

Today, the War Relic that Jin had found also emitted a faint divine essence. Although the divine essence emanating from the surface of the broken sword did not match the divine statue Yi Chen kneeled before in the dark room of the orphanage, and might even belong to two different theological factions, both likely originated from the same world or a greater world.

The revelation of this sword also sparked great interest in William regarding "War Relics,"

"Is it possible that a War Relic scattered from the Old World is related to the Death God Statue worshipped by Yi Chen? If I could find a related object, maybe I could unravel the mysteries of death, and even find a way to the other world."

Snap!

A snap with explosive effects resounded before William, yanking his thoughts back to reality.

"William! What are you thinking about? Throwing out a bunch of weird words and not explaining. You seem to know what this is, speak up quickly."

"This sword must belong to some deity, or a tool bestowed by a deity to their followers."

"Deity? What is that..."

Jin was puzzled. She had never heard stories about gods and deities.

As the human world was ravaged by illness, most humans had long since ceased to believe in any such deities. Some surviving churches may still have priests who speak of Yahweh, but most humans have more faith in the Gentleman Organization.

As for the Old World, there is simply no such thing as ’theology.’

Instead of believing in the intangible gods, patients are more inclined to believe in the Source Epidemic Areas corresponding to their illnesses.

William nodded, muttering to himself: "Indeed, I have never heard of any theological theories in this part of the Old World. Even in the human world, churches are rare, and there’s no religious belief in Zion at all.

The Light Church established by the Organization in its early days was also quickly suppressed by the Skin Factory and was forced to disband.

Jin, it’s normal that you can’t understand... I also only have a superficial understanding myself. Simply put, a deity is the product of a group’s faith."

"A product of faith, what the hell kind of thing is that? Just don’t talk about it. I will figure things out myself slowly. Anyway, I’ve already established a weak connection with the hilt of the sword. I feel like I should be able to wield it after some time."

Just then, William suddenly looked at Price, the City Lord beside him, no longer eating, "That’s right! Price, you are a Patient from ancient times; you took part in the Old World’s invasion wars, didn’t you? How could I forget something like that.

Hurry up and tell us, what exactly happened back then."

"Indeed, I did participate. When the battle horns of war sounded in the Old World, I had intended to abandon Rat City and head straight to the moon but was contacted by the Queen’s transmission before departing, instructing me to hold fast to my duties as City Lord.

Rat City unexpectedly wasn’t attacked, but the guards stationed at the Dark Nest Mine sent out an alarm, and I quickly made my decision to rush to the mine to face these invaders from the outside world.

At first, I killed a few not-so-tough guys, but I soon came across a tough nut to crack.

That fellow appeared to be just an ordinary bald human on the surface, not even wearing shoes, draped in a piece of tattered cloth. But when I tried to dispatch him quickly, I found that this person’s physical body was even harder than my claws.

Realizing the situation was not good, I decisively summoned moonlight and took out all my strength.

Who knew that the other fellow also underwent a transformation, growing three heads and six arms, each arm wielding a strange weapon... or what William just referred to with the term ’Magic Artifact.’

Although my memory has become a bit vague, one of those magic artifacts should be the very sword Miss Jin is holding.

Additionally, during the fight, an image of a furious giant always loomed behind that human, which exerted a significant psychological pressure on me."

I was almost completely overpowered and thought that I would die there and then, but two Pathfinders who felt the battle’s vibrations in the mine arrived just in time.

In a joint effort,

we managed to kill the opponent, albeit with the collapse of the mine, one person killed, and me sustaining serious injuries."

"Three heads and six arms, bald... can one really be that strong?"

Although it was just a narrative from City Lord Price, William still felt his blood boiling with excitement.

He knew very well what kind of strength Price had, having been able to slay the Honored Tumor Knight before, and even now, capable of tearing apart an Abyss Mask with his bare hands; by any standard, he was definitely above the middle level of the Silver Circle in the Old World.

And yet, such a mighty City Lord Price was completely suppressed, needing cooperation with two other Pathfinder Completers to narrowly secure a victory.

"If the opponent wasn’t strong, then the Old World wouldn’t have ended up being defeated in the end."

Jin also listened with great interest, muttering softly: "Ah~ Not having experienced such a war is really a pity~ I wonder if these people will come back for another round, I really want to give it a try."

Jin’s words clearly made Price somewhat displeased, and William quickly interjected.

"Alright, let’s talk about the issues of the other worlds later. Right now, I need to hurry back, or else the boss is going to cut my head off.

City Lord Price, follow me, and I’ll show you the top-tier delicacies of the world."

No sooner had William finished speaking than he suddenly felt a chill down below!

Jin, sitting opposite him, directly kicked from under the table, but fortunately, William managed to trap it between his legs on time, or he might have really received a ’deadly strike’.

"Hey! What happened to the friendly sparring, planning to sneak away after the meal, huh?"

William knew all too well what Jin’s personality was like, and could feel how intense the aura she was emitting was.

Accepting it wouldn’t be a simple sparring session,

and a person as mad as Jin could completely risk her life in the fight, which could mean dragging his injured and weary body back to the circus. If he got punished for coming back late by a month, his body might truly not be able to handle it.

Keep in mind that this is William’s ’freshly manufactured’ new body, and damaging it would be very troublesome.

"Jin, I’ve crawled in the Abyss for seven days and seven nights and barely managed to get out; I’m particularly exhausted right now. I haven’t even had a chance to do a ’Numerical Inspection’ on myself; if we spar now, I definitely won’t be able to bring out my real strength.

And I think that sparring with me in this state won’t satisfy you, either.

How about this, once I’ve fully adapted to this new body and am well-rested, we can spar then?

Also, we need to find some time to hurry back to Zion, as the situation there with the Organization is not too good. I’ll come to Cancer Palace to find you in a few days or maybe in a fortnight, how about that?"

Jin looked intently into William’s eyes and suddenly withdrew her right foot that was trapped between William’s legs.

"Go ahead, but don’t make me wait too long."

"Sure."

Of course, William himself couldn’t guarantee that he’d be able to slip away from the circus in just a fortnight; for now, he just needed to find a way to escape first.
