The General's Wife Wants to Leave -
Chapter 95: Bear with it
Chapter 95: Bear with it
Just hearing that she was going to ride a horse and pass along the side of a steep cliff made Joanna’s mind turn numb. When it was added that she was going to ride it with a man that she was supposed to maintain her distance from, it made her feel like she was becoming paralyzed.
"Do you already forget what we talked about last night?" Canillas interrupted the flow of turbulence in Joanna’s head.
Holding the hazel eyes that stared in perceptible agitation at him, he said, "Walking is indeed not a good idea, no matter how many knights are with you, Joanna. The best we can do is go down the mountain as fast as we can. And, of course, by riding Thunder."
Riding a horse with a beautiful lady who happened to be his wife was definitely an opportunity for Canillas to be close to her. However, at such a moment, it was not his main purpose.
Apart from avoiding the probability of attack that would happen if they prolonged their journey down to the foot of the mountain, he indeed wanted to eliminate any possibility for the Tres to get more time to observe and become familiar with her whole figure.
As he noticed the flame of agitation in her eyes gradually dimmed, Canillas added, "And I have something to entertain them." With that being said, Canillas turned to look at the back. Soon, Joanna followed the direction of his eyes, only to end up having her mouth slightly agape.
"We can’t exactly predict what they are planning out there. But your maid will be helpful in distracting them. Although it is not guaranteed success if they really planned to attack, at least we give it a try," Canillas explained to Joanna, whose eyes were still directed at Lucy, who was burying in a large, long black cloak, which the hem swept the soil as she made her way toward her.
"My lady," Lucy, who looked about to cry, only said that to Joanna once she stood before her.
She was startled when the General suddenly approached her after they finished having their breakfast just now. Since the husband of her young lady made an appearance in the forest and tore the hem of her dress, Lucy had become cautious.
The prominent General of Archess had made her lose one of her favorite dresses. Although the quality of the fabric was nothing to compare with the young lady’s, it was quite decent in her eyes.
Nevertheless, in contrast to her anticipation, the young lady’s husband did not repeat what he did in the forest. Instead, he handed over a cloak for her to wear.
Lucy wondered if the cloak was given as an exchange for her torn dress. But when she did what the General asked, for her to wear the cloak, she was surprised and confused to find the size, and the condition of the cloak was completely out of her senses.
’Lady Joanna needs your help. Wear it until you are told to take it off. Thank you.’
It was what the young lady’s husband told her to do, with the indifferent expression and tone he wore on his face and voice.
Not long later, another surprise welcomed her when she was told to ride a horse with one of the men, who arrived with the young lady’s husband in the forest and killed the wolves without any mercy.
"She will ride the horse with Ben. So, now, put this on." Canillas offered a cloak that looked similar to what was worn by Lucy. But Joanna did not take a look at it, as her eyes were still caught up by something that attracted her more.
"Who is that person?" Joanna asked, pointing her finger in one direction behind Lucy, next to a black horse.
Without bothering to see the person who caught her attention, Canillas replied, "The Tres that we captured yesterday. And he is the one who eavesdropped on our room."
Upon hearing the answer, Joanna’s brows furrowed, and she was now looking at the General to have him say, "We need to hand him over to the Terran security officer for further investigation. Hopefully, he is easy to cooperate with and willing to share important information related to kidnapped ladies."
Joanna faintly nodded her head at the explanation given before looking back at the young man of average height, who looked feeble with his hands tied in the front. He also looked drowned in the same black cloak as Lucy.
"He will ride the horse with Sir Sylvester." She heard the General add information.
She could grasp the General’s plan now by making Lucy and that person wear the same black cloak, which she guessed belonged to the General’s men.
By covering them with the same cloak, if the Tres wanted to kill their person so that he would not reveal any information to his enemy, they would not be able to do so easily.
They would not dare gamble, as they avoided making any wrong target. How if they killed the target that they wanted to capture so far, which was her?
After asking Lucy to be back in her initial position near the white horse, which she would ride, Joanna shifted her head to look down at the cloak in the General’s hand. Joanna let out a heavy sigh, as she would also have to wear the same cloak as Lucy and the captured Tres if she wanted to make the General’s plan successful.
However, despite knowing what the cloak in the General’s hand was for, Joanna did not immediately take it. She stared down at it instead.
"This is my cloak. What’s with that look?" Canillas commented once he noticed the meaning of her look toward his cloak. "Just bear with this only after we leave the mountain. I will wash it once we arrive at the duchy." Canillas cleared his throat after saying that. His face slightly blushed.
He had no choice but to make his wife wear a cloak that he had worn since he left for Seidel. He still had no time to wash the cloak that he wore when he left for Terra from Archess due to the subsequent unpredictable events he had to face once he set foot in Barasca.
It was still fortunate that he changed the cloak on his way to Seidel. Otherwise, he would not have known how to face the delicate lady with a soothing scent if he let her wear that kind of inexplicable cloak.
