The General's Wife Wants to Leave
Chapter 62: A moth to a flame

Chapter 62: A moth to a flame

A sliver of relief washed over Joanna when she felt that the burden that had been pressed on her shoulders was finally lifted as the unknown parties who seemed to be searching for her were finally away, heading to the other side of the place that she had chosen to hide.

However, although she was not alone, she did not dare to let her guard down, as another unexpected guest might appear to make another surprise.

She wondered whether another mishap would occur. If so, then today was indeed the worst of the worst days she had in her life.

Who ever thought that her only purpose in stepping into the forest to find a remedy for a sick little boy had brought her to the point where she was standing now.

Encountering wolves, the man before her, and the mysterious visitors who searched for her were enough to make her almost lose her life. She hoped there would be no more of that kind of heart-attacking incident, although one of the three was someone she knew despite the same dreadful way he approached her.

Staring at the person that she knew, she wondered if the situation was not safe yet, so he still caged her, not removing his hand from her mouth.

Joanna actually wanted to tell him to let go of her, as she would not make any sound. She was aware that where they were now was not a safe place, and she knew what to do to keep herself safe.

When she was about to tell him to let go of her as there were no other occupants other than them and she knew how to behave at the moment, she felt the calloused palm that had rested on her mouth for quite a long time being slowly removed, allowing the cold morning air to brush the previously wrapped skin, giving a fresh sensation, like the change of summer into autumn.

However, not long before she was able to breathe more freely and enjoy the fresh sensation on her skin, she felt the air around her lips turn back to warmth.

Realizing where it came from, Joanna turned her head away, which made Canillas’ lips land on her soft cheek.

As if carried away by the situation and atmosphere that enveloped them, Canillas did not pull away, even after being subtly rejected. He slowly put his hands on his wife’s slender waists, with his lips lingering on her cheeks, before trailing down as if trying to explore the treasure in his arms.

Joanna turned alarmed when Canillas’ lips trailed down, caressing her jaw. Before he could move down further, Joanna placed her hands on his broad shoulders, pushing him away. But Canillas did not budge like he had every time she pushed him away. Instead, he tightened his hold on her waists and moved closer to remove any space between them.

Joanna gasped when Canillas buried his face in the crook of her neck, and for a while she stiffened, not being able to push him away, as a faint, subtle sob suddenly penetrated her ears.

Did she hear wrong? Joanna tried to find it again, but she heard nothing. She wondered if the mishaps had caused her to lose the ability to hear accurately.

Nevertheless, although Joanna could not find the sound anymore, she stayed still as she somehow felt that there was something odd with the large, tall man, who was hugging her with his arms wrapped around her back in a way that pinned her tightly in his chest.

However, that compassion did not last long, as it completely disappeared when she felt a wet sensation on her neck.

Realizing what it was, Joanna used her strength to push him away and said in a voice barely above a whisper, "Stop!"

But Canillas ignored her words as if he did not hear anything at the moment. He looked as if being revolved in his own world, intoxicated by the scent that was emitted from the woman’s neck and bewitched by the soft and warm skin beneath his lips.

If Joanna could describe it, he was like an animal that found an oasis after being lost in the desert for days, like a moth chasing after the flame.

Joanna, who was trapped between the large, tall man in front of her and the tree trunk behind her back, could not free herself easily. She wanted to shout at him, but she was afraid those people would come back and find her.

Although she was with the so-called prominent General of Archess, she was doubtful if he could win against them and prevent them from capturing her, as he was alone here, without his men or his troops, and she did not know how many people of the other party had searched for her before.

Joanna became more anxious, as he did not seem to intend to stop there. She said louder than before but was still in a range of whispering, "Please stop!" And Canillas ignored her once again, trailing down his lips toward Joanna’s collarbone instead.

"I said stop!" And Canillas finally stopped.

It was not the woman’s low-pitched yet stern voice that made him pull away from the allure that had charmed him, but the cold, sharp thing that touched his neck.

Reluctantly raising his head to meet his wife’s cold eyes, he heard her say, "I have told you to stop, Sir Canillas!" She spoke while gritting her teeth before pulling the dagger away from his neck, where she pointed the dagger.

Canillas was flabbergasted at what was done by the woman before him. The woman who was his wife dared point a dagger at him, her husband!

Not only did she try to get rid of him, but she also kicked, hit, and tried to stab him with the dagger that he did not know where or how she had with her.

The previous wild actions that almost made him lose his main identity as a man had come to his understanding as she panicked and tried to defend herself. So, he was fine with that.

But now, she did point the dagger at her husband’s neck! What kind of woman was the wife he had? Would she kill him if he ignored her and forced her to extinguish his burning desire?

Couldn’t he touch his legal wife? Did she resent him that much which made him not allowed to touch her? Or... was it because of that man? Canillas narrowed his eyes.
