Chapter 31: Royal Palace
Chapter 31: Royal Palace
"Keep it, I don’t need it anyway, especially when there are so many guards assigned to take care of me. No one will be interested in my old bone, but it’s you who needs absolute protection right now. I can keep my peace of mind if it’s with you."
Mother Bai smiled as she looked at Bai Yunxian’s teary eyes and wiped them off gently.
"Child, it seems that Young Lord Yun doesn’t have any mean intentions towards you. Assist him as you wish, but don’t do it if you don’t want to. No one would dare to force you in this."
"Mhmm." Bai Yunxian nodded his head.

"Well then, mother. Rest well, I won’t disturb you anymore. I still need to get back and prepare for the wedding." Bai Yunxian stood up after talking with his mother more than an hour.
"Alright, come whenever you are free, son." Mother Bai showed a subtle smile as she bid farewell to her son.
Bai Yunxian walked out of the room as he stopped on his tracks and took out the jade insignia, clenching it in his hand tightly as he greet his teeth.
’So, how to use it properly this time?’
Well, that’s to see after I return...
As he thought, Bai Yunxian returned the insignia back inside his sleeve as he looked around, then took a long breath as he opened his eyes full of determination. Then walked out of the pavilion.
He thought he would return back to Yun mansion right away. However, an unexpected variable was raised without any further notice, making him frown in annoyance.
"Are you done meeting with your mother? Want to get back together?"
Yun Shu was staring at him with a smug look on her face, which he somehow found to be very annoying.
’Ah... I really want to smack that annoyingly handsome smug face of his!’
"Then, I thank my lord for the ride." Bai Yunxian bowed to Yun Shu despite the eery expression on his face.
It was written all over his face just how annoyed he was by this unexpected visit, but Yun Shu found it rather adorable than irritating.
’He is not good at concealing his expression. So much for teasing him...’
The grin on Yun Shu’s face broadened as she called Bai Yunxian to get inside the carriage.
After finishing the troublesome morning court, there were a lot of things weighing on her mind.
Especially about all the after effects she faced, it was a rather concerning butterfly effect of changing the route.
If you want to know what happened, then we need to go back to a few hours ago.

Royal Palace.
Yun Shu was walking towards the Grand Hall, where they usually hold the morning court, along with other courtiers and officials.
"Lord Yun, congratulations on getting married finally!"
"Though, it’s a shame that you didn’t choose my granddaughter... remember to invite us to the wedding!"
"Lord Yun, about the matter of royal annual bughet, this time it seems that there is a raise in it, and we need to calculate through everything once more..." The Grand Secretary clapped his hands together as he asked Yun Shu with a tinge of shame.
As most of the officials are older than Yun Shu, they hesitated to ask her, a junior, about the matters that weighed over them.
However, Yun Shu’s friendly and upright personality made her likable and popular among the courtiers, enough to have small talks here and there, to the point of even sharing their personal concerns.
"Do it like this, Grand Secretary. And of curse all of you present here will be invited, don’t worry about this, Prime Minister."
Yun Shu was all smiles as she conversed with the people around her till they reached the hall.
After all the courtiers took their seats as they were still conversing with each other.
Yun Shu was in a relaxed mood as she sat in her own seat, today there were some important matters to discuss.
Though, her mind was actually left back at home, over a certain something that needs more attention than this.
In no time, The emperor entered the hall as the courtiers stood up to greet him.
"Long live His Majesty."
"Rise my beloved ministers, sit down." Emperor Yun was a venerable and amiable man, he treated his courtiers with the proper respect that they deserve. However, none of the princes has inherited his calm and dignified personality, which was rather unfortunate.
In his eyes, there was no difference between his own children and of his brothers, that’s why there was an imperial will issue about the rightful heir being the most capable child among his brothers and his own.
Regarding it in this way, all of Yun Shu’s brothers and cousin’s had the right to fight for throne.
However, none of them really had that kind of ambition or greed to rise up in power. This is what made the Yun brothers different from others, who are completely loyal to the throne.
Even after getting offers from officials they turned around to enjoy their free life, while the royal princes are always living on their toes against each other.
This was also one of the reasons for the Yun mansion being a monks’ den, because getting married to some official’s daughter would throw them in the fight of succession in one way or another.
However, Yun Shu got married to a powerless daughter of the Bai mansion, which didn’t make an influence over her since Bai Yunxian severed his relationship with General Bai.
That’s why the Emperor, her uncle, favored his brothers’ sons and daughters more than his own sons, and Yun Shu got the most favor out of all of them.
"Today, the Crown Prince is also attending the court, regarding the concerning matter at the southren border."
Yun Si entered the court as he walked up to his father’s side, the courtiers all bowed to him as they greeted the crown prince.
