Chapter 835: Chapter 782 Crisis
Inside the cave, it was pitch black, but fortunately, almost everyone came prepared, each with a flashlight, illuminating the entire cave brightly.
A rotten smell lingered in the air. Liu Hun furrowed his brows slightly, pondering for a few seconds before a look of shock flashed in his eyes.
“The air is toxic.” Liu Hun warned Miao Yidao, Long Bing’er, and the others beside him. After speaking, he tore a piece of cloth from his clothes to cover his mouth and nose.
“How do you know the air is toxic?” Long Bing’er followed Liu Hun’s lead, covering her mouth and nose, though she asked with a puzzled look.
“I’ve seen this kind of gas before.” Liu Hun said in a deep voice, his eyes turning towards the excited crowd ahead.
At this moment, they had no idea that the air was toxic. Eager to seize the Golden Gu, they rushed madly into the cave.
“Keep going.” Just as Long Bing’er was about to speak, Liu Hun continued.
Seeing Liu Hun take the lead and walk forward, Long Bing’er was momentarily stunned but followed him.
She didn’t come to seize the Golden Gu this time, she just didn’t want other forces to get it. If Liu Hun could control the Golden Gu, she wouldn’t mind going along with it and owing Liu Hun a favor.
After walking for a few minutes, a wave of painful screams suddenly came from ahead. In the crisscrossing light, Liu Hun, Long Bing’er, and the others clearly saw sharp arrows shooting from the front.
Those who were at the front were somewhat unlucky; in just an instant, countless were dead or injured.
These arrows continued for about two minutes before stopping, allowing Liu Hun and the others to arrive at the scene. Seeing the twenty-some corpses on the ground, looking incredibly miserable, Liu Hun couldn’t help but sigh softly.
“Liu Hun, you knew there were traps in here, didn’t you?” Suddenly, Du Ziteng turned around and angrily questioned Liu Hun loudly.
Earlier at the cave entrance, he had clearly heard Liu Hun’s words, so none of the Du Family were injured. However, Du Ziteng still wasn’t planning to let him off.
Seeing everyone’s angry glares directed at Liu Hun, Du Ziteng sneered inwardly: “Let’s see how you handle this; stirring up public anger is not a good thing.”
Facing the angry gazes, Liu Hun chuckled softly and said: “Indeed, I did suspect it wouldn’t be so simple in here. But, since you want to seize the treasure, you should be mentally prepared for this. Moreover, I didn’t drive you away, which is already decent of me. If you have any complaints, come at me. But I must remind everyone, if anything happens to me, none of you are likely to leave Qinghe Town. Believe me, I, Liu Hun, can absolutely make that happen.”
Du Ziteng had thought Liu Hun would compromise, but unexpectedly, Liu Hun dared to speak like this, almost offending everyone while also making a threat.
Watching the somewhat grim faces, Du Ziteng couldn’t help but scold: “A bunch of cowards!”
“If you’re not a coward, then go ahead and lead the way for everyone.” Liu Hun looked at Du Ziteng and laughed lightly.
Hearing Liu Hun’s words, Du Ziteng’s face changed again. He had just accidentally fallen into a trap, and who knows what dangers lie ahead.
If he were to lead the way, it would undoubtedly be a death sentence.
“What? Afraid? If you’re scared, then shut up.” Liu Hun looked at Du Ziteng disdainfully.
“You…” Du Ziteng opened his mouth, but in the end, he said no more. He knew he couldn’t outtalk Liu Hun, and in such a godforsaken place, continuing to mess with Liu Hun was harmful and unhelpful for them. After all, this was Liu Hun’s territory, not the Du Family’s.
“Since none of you dare to move forward, I’ll not shy away. If I obtain the Golden Gu in advance, don’t blame me.” Liu Hun looked at the hesitant crowd and said calmly.
“Since it’s a treasure, if it’s meant for Brother Lin, we have nothing more to say if he truly obtains it.” Right after Liu Hun’s words, a middle-aged man suddenly stepped forward and said solemnly.
Upon hearing this, Liu Hun looked in the direction of the voice. The middle-aged man appeared to be in his forties, his face somewhat weathered, yet his strength was unfathomable.
Curiously, there was no one at his side. Liu Hun found it intriguing that someone with such profound strength had no helper.
Liu Hun didn’t waste words and directly proceeded forward with Miao Yidao, while Long Bing’er and the others followed him.
“Old Miao, be cautious ahead and don’t fall into that old fellow’s trap,” Liu Hun reminded Miao Yidao as he continued moving forward.
“Yes, Third Uncle,” Miao Yidao nodded in response.
The passage was long, and Liu Hun walked for almost ten minutes. By his estimate, he had traversed at least a few hundred meters, which made Liu Hun marvel at how the Clan Leader dug such a lengthy passage in this massive mountain for the Golden Gu.
However, the more it was like this, the more Liu Hun anticipated it. He had heard of the Golden Gu in his past life, but it was incredibly rare. Training one was nearly impossible without decades.
“Watch out!” Just as Liu Hun continued deeper into the cave, a crackling sound suddenly came from beneath his feet. Without hesitation, Liu Hun grabbed Miao Yidao and pressed against the passage wall.
“Thud!” Miao Yidao felt a sudden sting in his arm, and on lowering his head, a thumb-sized bloody hole appeared on his arm.
The group behind, including Long Bing’er, was also very alert and immediately pressed themselves against the wall after he spoke.
As the tiny black shadows continuously shot past towards the back of the passage, the next moment the entire tunnel reverberated with terrifying screams once more.
“Bloodworms!” Liu Hun reached out with one hand, catching in midair and looking at a black insect, akin to a mosquito, struggling endlessly.
Liu Hun’s face turned a bit unsightly.
Upon saying this, not only his but also Miao Yidao’s and Long Bing’er’s complexions turned slightly pale.
The form of bloodworms resembled that of mosquitoes, but they were extraordinarily fast; it was said they could pierce through even steel in an instant, let alone human flesh.
Without hesitation, Liu Hun quickly took out a sachet from his pocket and opened it, releasing a heavy fragrance that spread throughout the cave.
After approximately two minutes, the cave gradually quieted down following the dispersal of the fragrance.
Looking at the tragic state of the people behind, Liu Hun couldn’t help but sigh, “That old fellow sure has some tricks up his sleeve. To think he even prepared bloodworms for the Golden Gu.”
“Liu Hun!” Du Ziteng swiftly approached Liu Hun, staring at him intently, as if wishing to devour him alive.
“Did another one of your nerves get struck?” Liu Hun looked at Du Ziteng with some distaste.
This brat was truly annoying, yet he couldn’t just slap him to death; while he could ignore the Du Family, now was not the time to kill Du Ziteng.
Otherwise, should the Du Family go mad, Liu Hun could not bear it.
“Two of my Du Family subordinates just died. Since this is your territory, don’t you think you owe us an explanation?” Du Ziteng gritted his teeth, glaring at Liu Hun.
“How is it my business? If it weren’t for me, you’d all be dead by now. Don’t think you can be ungrateful after gaining advantage; believe me, if I make you lead the way, even if you die, with so many people around, there’s no way the Du Family would blame it on me, right?” Liu Hun’s eyes glinted fiercely.
“You… Fine, fine, fine, I’ll settle this account with you sooner or later!” Du Ziteng, having been humiliated repeatedly by Liu Hun, felt the fury in his heart nearly reaching a peak.
Like Liu Hun, however, he had to endure.
“Don’t blame me for not warning you; I have no idea what that old guy has set up here. If you leave now, there’s still time, otherwise, don’t blame me if you end up dead.” Liu Hun ignored Du Ziteng and turned to remind the others.
Initially, everyone was a bit angry because Liu Hun was leading the way unscathed, while those behind suffered great casualties, making them instinctively suspect it was intentional on Liu Hun’s part.
But when they saw the bloody hole on Miao Yidao’s arm, they dismissed that thought.
If Liu Hun knew all this, then his subordinates wouldn’t have been injured. Moreover, they had no grievances with Liu Hun, so there was no need for him to act that way.
Not paying attention to the hesitancy among others, Liu Hun continued to walk ahead.
Fortunately, this next stretch of the path was danger-free, and after about an hour, Liu Hun finally halted.
A vast space lay before him, roughly several hundred square meters, with a stone platform at its center, on which stood a cross, and bound to it was none other than Qian Zhongshu.
The Clan Leader, Niu Ben, and some of the Clan Leader’s trusted followers were gathered around Qian Zhongshu.
“Professor Qian.” Liu Hun exclaimed upon seeing Qian Zhongshu, eyes closed, face pale.
“Liu… Professor Liu…” Qian Zhongshu, upon hearing Liu Hun’s voice, opened his weak eyes to gaze lowly at Liu Hun.
“Third Brother, why are you here? And who are these people?” The Clan Leader showed a hint of displeasure upon seeing Liu Hun and the others.
“Haha, it seems like you old fellow still don’t know anything, do you?” Du Ziteng, upon seeing the situation, paused briefly before reacting, laughing aloud, addressing the Clan Leader.
“What do you mean by this?” The Clan Leader’s eyes narrowed slightly, with a cold killing intent evident in his gaze towards Du Ziteng.
“Regardless of Miao Territory or Yunjiang, they’ve long been snatched away by this kid; in other words, all these years of your work as the Clan Leader have gone to waste, all for his benefit.” Du Ziteng, finally seizing an opportunity, disclosed the truth to the Clan Leader without holding back.
Upon hearing Du Ziteng’s words, the Clan Leader’s expression turned glum, his gaze scanning over towards Liu Hun, noticing Miao Yidao standing respectfully by Liu Hun’s side.
“Third Brother, is what he said true?” The Clan Leader’s eyes fixed tightly on Liu Hun, knowing from Miao Yidao’s demeanor that it was likely true, yet he still found it hard to accept.
Previously, he thought of Liu Hun as nothing more than a cowardly small merchant, incapable of doing any real harm even after toppling Third Uncle, but now he realized Liu Hun was a ravenous wolf – a disaster he himself had helped foster.
