Chapter 757: Chapter 705: Gratitude and Grudges

After she finished speaking and saw the bewildered looks on everyone’s faces, Chu Mengyao knew her words had just fallen on deaf ears.

“Village chief, was that beautiful girl who visited our village before Alice?” Suddenly, a young man stepped forward from the crowd, looking at Chu Mengyao with shock.

This young man, Liu Hun, had left some impression; he was Uncle Wang’s son, who usually studied in the county town and visited back once a week. It just so happened to be the weekend, so he was here.

Seeing Wang Lin mention Alice, Chu Mengyao glanced at Liu Hun out of the corner of her eye, then nodded her head.

“Xiao Lin, what does that have to do with the beautiful girl?” Uncle Wang, looking puzzled, asked his son, who was clearly shocked.

“Dad, you might not know this, but although I didn’t go to Alice’s concert, I heard from my classmates afterward that Alice’s prospective boyfriend auctioned off Beauty Pills during the concert. According to conservative estimates by the journalists, he made at least five hundred million in one night,” Wang Lin finished, looking at Liu Hun with eyes full of admiration.

He could have never imagined that the “luckiest man in the world” his classmate talked about would turn out to be their village’s own Liu Hun. Although they weren’t closely related, boasting about it to others would still be a source of pride.

“What? Five hundred million?” As soon as Wang Lin’s words came out, the entire place went silent.

Especially Liu Hun’s second aunt, her face filled with disbelief.

Every time she wanted to cause trouble and mock Liu Hun, in the end, she always got her face slapped by Liu Hun’s merciless counterattacks, with this time being the most severe.

She had previously made fun of Liu Hun for being penniless, but in the blink of an eye, Liu Hun was now worth five hundred million—an enormous disparity that left her not just shocked but also with increasing hatred towards Liu Hun.

“To be exact, I made over six hundred million this time. Later, I will also build a factory and company in our village. The initial phase won’t require much money, so I plan to invest the rest into developing the whole Shanghe Village. The reason I called you all here today is precisely for this matter,” Liu Hun explained, looking at the stunned faces of everyone in attendance.

However, after Liu Hun finished speaking, no reply came from the crowd; the sum of six hundred million was an amount of money they could never comprehend in their lifetimes.

“Such big talk, wanting to develop Shanghe Village with just six hundred million, I’m afraid that’s far from enough,” an incredulous voice suddenly came from outside the courtyard as people were still in their daze.

Hu Hansan, supporting an elderly man with a few villagers, slowly stepped into the courtyard.

“Liu Hun, did you call us here today just to let us listen to your grand plans in order to slap Lower River Village in the face? I’m telling you, even if you have money, we in Lower River Village won’t be afraid of you!” Although Hu Hansan had been taught a lesson by Liu Dekai and had become much quieter, deep down, he still couldn’t accept Liu Hun.

Looking at Hu Hansan and his party, Liu Hun smiled faintly and then instructed Wang Lin, “Xiao Lin, go fetch a chair for Grandpa Hu.”

Wang Lin looked at the people from Lower River Village with some disdain but obediently did as Liu Hun had instructed.

“Grandpa Hu, I am really sorry for having you come all this way so late. You’ve worked hard,” Liu Hun apologized to the elderly man standing at the forefront.

This old man was Hu Hansan’s father, who had been a Red Army soldier and fought against the “ghosts” back in the day. He had a limp because of an injury sustained in the war.

Liu Hun had always admired such a person, no matter if the people from Lower River Village constantly showed dislike towards Shanghe Village or not.

“It seems a young hero emerges from youth. Shanghe Village is fortunate to have you. Tell us, what exactly did you call us here for today?” the old man asked, looking at Liu Hun intently.

“Kid, just spit it out if you have something to say, don’t waste my time. If it weren’t for my dad giving you face today, I definitely wouldn’t have come to your Shanghe Village. Don’t think just because you have Liu Dekai backing you up, I would be afraid of you…” Hu Hansan bulged his eyes, staring fiercely and roaring at Liu Hun.

“Little Hu, your hair hasn’t even fully grown, and you’re acting so tough? Don’t forget this is our Shanghe Village, not your Lower River Village!” Aunt Huang, eager to show off in front of Liu Hun, immediately said dismissively to Hu Hansan.

“Damn it, if you have the guts, come on, and see if we in Lower River Village are scared of you!” Hu Hansan spat out and grabbed a wooden stick from behind him, clearly prepared for trouble.

Just as the situation seemed about to spiral out of control, Chu Mengyao’s pretty face showed urgency as she asked Liu Hun, “Hun, what do we do?”

Liu Hun remained calm, gazing at the composed old man sitting among the crowd, a faint smile playing on his lips as he softly said, “I’m thinking of including Lower River Village in the development as well.”

Upon these words, silence fell over the entire crowd.

Neither Shanghe Village nor Lower River Village could have anticipated Liu Hun’s statement.

“You should know that the hatred between Shanghe Village and Lower River Village has lasted for decades,” the village chief reasoned, “the benefits for Shanghe Village should absolutely not fall into their hands.”

But at this moment, Liu Hun spoke out.

“I admit you’re now very wealthy, but the money you have is hardly enough to develop both villages,” before the rest could react, Hu Hansan’s father looked at Liu Hun with a hint of depth in his eyes and said gravely.

“What if I currently have seventeen billion at my disposal?” Liu Hun asked with a light laugh as he watched the elder’s composed demeanor, though he felt somewhat sentimental inside, truly a person who had faced life and death.

Liu Hun wanted to develop Lower River Village alongside his own, not because he had more money than he knew how to spend. If Lower River Village were left out, it would be difficult to achieve the development Shanghe Village aimed for.

Lower River Village was by the sea, and this coastline was also part of Liu Hun’s plans. It was better to forge alliances than to harbor grudges, and if he could make Lower River Village grateful, only then would Shanghe Village be impregnable, with no one able to bring them down.

“Seventeen billion? Kid, don’t blow smoke if you can’t show proof. Where can you possibly get that much money?” Hu Hansan scorned Liu Hun after a moment of astonishment.

In his view, it was plausible for Liu Hun to have six or seven billion, but the idea that Liu Hun could possess seventeen billion was something Hu Hansan absolutely refused to believe.

“Alice invested ten billion,” Liu Hun stated calmly.

With these words, no one in the room spoke; their knowledge of Alice’s background was not clear, but since Liu Hun said so, it evidently was the case.

“How do you plan to develop our Lower River Village?” Hu Hansan’s father asked with a gleam in his eyes. “And why would you help Lower River Village? I’ve never believed in pie falling from the sky, so I think it’s better to speak plainly before anything else.”

Seeing the sincerity in the old man’s eyes, Liu Hun did not hide his intentions. “Lower River Village has the advantage of being by the sea, something that Shanghe Village cannot match. The coastline can also be developed into a tourist and recreation area. I can help you develop Lower River Village, but I would require ownership of the coast.”

“Liu Hun, you’re going too far. If the coastline belongs to you, what profits could Lower River Village possibly see?” Hu Hansan glared at Liu Hun angrily.

Liu Hun appeared as if he hadn’t heard him at all, a slight smile in his eyes as he looked towards Hu Hansan’s father.

In comparison, Hu Hansan’s father was more far-sighted and infinitely wiser than Hu Hansan; Liu Hun believed the elder would agree.

After contemplating for a while, the old man raised his head, looked at Liu Hun, and then said with a bitter smile, “Kid, I can agree to your terms, but I have one condition.”

“Dad, this guy is simply robbing us of our resources. If we give him that part of the sea, then Lower River Village will never see a day of revival,” Hu Hansan felt anxious as he saw his father about to agree.

“Even though we’re handing over the development rights of the coast to him, we can still utilize some of the other resources around Lower River Village to make profits. While it may not match Shanghe Village, it’s still far better than our previous state. The increase in tourists will boost the surrounding industries. If you want to continue with the life we had before, I won’t say more. But the rest of our villagers probably don’t wish to live those old days again; there’s no grudge that cannot be settled,” the old man sadly remarked as he looked at his son.

Though his son was impulsive and ignorant, he knew his son had not received an education, and that was where he had failed as a father.

“Grandpa Hu, go ahead and make your request. If Hun can fulfill it, there will be no hesitation,” Liu Hun said with a smile while looking at the elder.

“I’ve heard your medical skills are exceptional. I want you to save someone for me. If you can agree to that, then I can agree to your terms right now,” the elder said to Liu Hun earnestly.

“Grandpa Hu, I haven’t seen the patient yet, and therefore, I can’t be completely sure. In this world, there are still many diseases that can’t be cured,” Liu Hun said with a wry smile.

“All I ask is that you do your best.”

“Fine, I agree.”

Liu Hun hadn’t expected that the patient the elder mentioned would actually be in Lower River Village.

“Hun, do you want me to ask some villagers to come with you? If these old folks are fooling us, then you might be in danger,” Aunt Huang expressed her concerns as Liu Hun was about to leave.

Hearing this, Liu Hun slightly smiled and said, “It’s all right. You all go back first. Once I have treated the person, I will probably get the contract.”

“I’m going with you,” Chu Mengyao suddenly stepped forward and said to Liu Hun.

Seeing Chu Mengyao’s resolute face, Liu Hun slightly smiled and didn’t refuse. He knew that if he didn’t let Chu Mengyao come along, she would definitely not agree.

Before long, the two followed Hu Hansan and others to Lower River Village. Although Liu Hun had visited once before, he had never really entered the village, so he had to follow Hu Hansan and his group.
