Chapter 728: Chapter 676: Dealing with You
Liu Hun had just arrived at the backyard mountain when he saw his medicinal garden in complete disarray, trampled as if by pigs. The medicinal seedlings were all uprooted and carelessly strewn about on the ground.
By this time, the sun was already setting. After a quick glance over his medicinal garden, Liu Hun slowly made his way into the field, carefully examining the herbs. Only then did Liu Hun breathe a sigh of relief.
Although these herbs grew in a rather unique environment, they were resilient, and could survive as long as their roots were intact. Obviously, the people who destroyed his garden didn’t know this.
“Hunzi, let’s just replant the garden now that it’s been destroyed…” Chu Mengyao approached Liu Hun from behind, offering him words of comfort with a hint of worry.
Today, Chu Mengyao had witnessed the powerful effects of Liu Hun’s aphrodisiac, so she could understand the significance of the garden to Liu Hun.
“Auntie Huang, did you see anyone come to my garden today? If you could provide me with any clues, I’ll reward you a thousand yuan. If you can find the person who destroyed my garden, I’ll give five thousand,” Liu Hun said in a somewhat chilling tone as he collected the medicinal plants, turning around to ask Auntie Huang.
After hearing Liu Hun’s words, Auntie Huang’s eyes immediately lit up with excitement. Ever since she had helped Liu Hun in a fight last time, she realized that this young man was wealthy and generous. That’s why, when she found out about this incident today, she rushed straight to Liu Hun’s house.
“Today, my child was out playing and happened to see some people from the neighboring village coming here. My child is still too young, but based on his description, I can guess which people it might be, it’s just that…” Auntie Huang paused mid-sentence.
Seeing Auntie Huang’s reaction, Liu Hun promptly pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket and handed it to her without even counting it. Then, under the envious gazes of the onlookers, Liu Hun said, “Let’s go, take me there.”
“Hunzi, don’t be rash…” Chu Mengyao clutched at Liu Hun’s shirt, speaking anxiously to him.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. It’s fortunate they didn’t know; as long as the roots of these herbs aren’t destroyed, they can still continue to grow,” Liu Hun reassured Chu Mengyao with a nod, speaking slowly.
As they set out towards the neighboring village, Er Auntie, who had just rushed over, overheard Liu Hun’s last remark and her expression turned extremely ugly.
“What a bunch of idiots, you can’t even do one thing right!” Er Auntie curse under her breath, hastily following them. This whole thing had been orchestrated by her, and if Liu Hun found any evidence, she would have a hard time explaining herself.
Lower River Village and Shanghe Village had always been at odds, with people from both villages barely able to tolerate each other, all because of a river.
Shanghe Village was upstream of the river, hence its name. Naturally, Lower River Village was downstream. The villagers relied on farming for their livelihood, and during droughts, they needed to draw water from the river to irrigate their crops; if Shanghe Village used too much water, the people of Lower River Village wouldn’t be able to water their crops. Over time, this led to frequent disputes between the two villages.
This was something Liu Hun had forgotten since waking up. By the time he and the villagers arrived at Lower River Village, the sun had set, and the villagers had all returned home. In just a short while, Liu Hun and his companions found themselves surrounded by all the villagers of Lower River Village.
“What are you doing in our village? If there’s nothing important, get lost, or don’t blame us for not being polite!” A middle-aged man in the crowd, with a dark complexion and a hint of ferocity, didn’t hesitate to brandish his hoe as a threat as he spoke.
“I am the newly appointed village chief of Shanghe Village. We have indeed come on an important matter. Is your village chief present?” Chu Mengyao glanced at the fierce-looking villagers of Lower River Village, startled by their demeanor although unaware of the underlying reasons.
The villagers of Lower River Village hesitated when they saw Chu Mengyao. The middle-aged man spoke up, “My dad’s not around. Just tell me what you want.”
Watching this scene unfold, Liu Hun felt a sense of poignancy; everyone does love a pretty face.
“Hu Hansan, someone from your village came to our Shanghe Village today and destroyed Hunzi’s medicinal garden, so we’ve come to find them!” Auntie Huang saw Hu Hansan’s tone soften a bit and quickly stepped forward to shout on behalf of Liu Hun.
In Auntie Huang’s eyes, if she could perform well in front of Liu Hun, maybe he would reward her with more money later; naturally, she wouldn’t let such an opportunity slip by.
“Bullshit, our people from Lower River Village would never go to your Shanghe Village. If you don’t leave right now, don’t blame me for being impolite!” Hu Hansan became as agitated as a cat whose tail had been stepped on the moment he heard Auntie Huang’s words, his face angry as he shouted back at her.
“You’re the one talking nonsense, my kid saw it with his own eyes today; are you still trying to deny it?” Auntie Huang stepped back two paces, holding her ground as she retorted against Hu Hansan’s fierce gaze.
“I don’t care about any of that. I’m going to count to three, and if you haven’t left by then, I’ll start a fight!” Hu Hansan glared at Auntie Huang, unapologetically.
As she watched the enraged mob of Lower River Village, Chu Mengyao had never seen such a spectacle before. In her view, villagers should be simple and kind, never imagining they could be so aggressive.
“Mengyao, maybe we should head back and plan our next steps…” Chu Mengyao tugged at Liu Hun’s sleeve, worry evident in her voice.
“If I back down today, then everyone will think Liu Hun is easy to bully in the future, so I absolutely can’t tolerate this kind of thing,” Liu Hun said calmly.
“You’re that idiot Liu from Shanghe Village? I’ve heard you suddenly became smart recently and started messing around with those worthless herbs to make money, but no matter what you’re up to, if you trouble our Lower River Village, I won’t let you off easy,” Hu Hansan approached Liu Hun. Standing at a height of 1.8 meters, he was half a head taller than Liu Hun, looking down at him with an air of arrogance.
“If your Lower River Village didn’t do such a thing, then what’s the harm in letting the child come out to identify them? Unless you all have a guilty conscience!” Liu Hun replied to Hu Hansan right in front of him, not even batting an eyelid.
“Damn your granny, fine, let’s have you verify it. If you can’t identify anyone, don’t even think about going back tonight!” Hu Hansan, already a hotheaded brute, was instantly provoked by Liu Hun and rashly agreed to the challenge.
Liu Hun nodded at Aunt Huang beside him. In response, she hurriedly pulled a five or six-year-old child to the front and said, “Dog Egg, if you can identify the people you saw today in Brother Hun’s herb garden, Mom will make you steamed buns when we get back.”
“Yay, yay!” The child called Dog Egg clapped his hands excitedly, then stepped into the center of the group. After a glance, he turned and shook his head at Aunt Huang.
“Hahaha, how about that, are you all mistaken? Got anything else to say now?” Hu Hansan burst into laughter when he saw Dog Egg shaking his head.
“Does your Lower River Village only consist of these few people?” Liu Hun frowned slightly then looked directly at Hu Hansan and asked.
Liu Hun believed that Aunt Huang wouldn’t lie to him; after all, Aunt Huang was the type who would do anything with a profit involved, let alone such a small task, so long as she got something in return.
“Liu the Fool, what are you trying to say? Could it be that you still suspect us at this point?” Hu Hansan glared angrily at Liu Hun, ready to start a fight at the drop of a hat.
“A clear conscience fears no accusation; I still say the same thing, if your Lower River Village is innocent, then do as you wish later. But if it turns out you all did it, then this won’t end so simply,” Liu Hun lifted his head to face Hu Hansan, showing not a hint of fear.
“Motherfucker, I’ll beat you to death…” Hu Hansan was thoroughly enraged by Liu Hun and clenched his fist, preparing to smash it into Liu Hun’s face.
“Brother Three, I heard people from Shanghe Village are causing trouble in our village? Do you want me and the guys to give them a beating? It’s been a while since we’ve had the opportunity…” However, just at that moment, a brash voice rang through the scene.
Following the sound, several brash-looking young men with wooden sticks in hand strode menacingly toward them.
“Mom, it’s them, it’s them…” Dog Egg saw the group and shouted excitedly to Aunt Huang.
“Brother Three, should we…” As the young men arrived at the scene, before they could finish speaking, Liu Hun looked at them coldly and asked, “Was it you lot who caused trouble in my herb garden today and tore down all my herbs?”
“Who are you calling a mongrel, don’t slander people!” The young men felt a bit guilty upon hearing Liu Hun’s accusations.
“Kid, you heard them, this has nothing to do with the people from our Lower River Village!” Hu Hansan, seeing these fools arrive, wished he could slap them dead.
Liu Hun’s second aunt had gone years without a man and naturally couldn’t stand it, so she got involved with Hu Hansan in secret. Last night, when Hu Hansan sneaked into Liu Hun’s second aunt’s home, she casually mentioned it to Hu Hansan, which led to today’s events.
But smart as Hu Hansan was, he wouldn’t dirty his hands personally, hence he pulled in these fools to do the job. Little did he expect that they would be spotted by a little kid.
“That’s right, do you have any proof? Without evidence, on what grounds do you say we destroyed your herb garden?” The group, feeling emboldened by Hu Hansan’s support, loudly questioned Liu Hun.
Looking at Hu Hansan and the others, Liu Hun’s face was filled with icy resolve.
“His words are the evidence,” Liu Hun said sternly, pointing at Dog Egg beside Aunt Huang.
“Damn it…” Hu Hansan, seeing Liu Hun remain so stubborn, felt anger surge in his heart and extended his hand, reaching to grab Liu Hun’s collar.
Unfortunately for Hu Hansan, before he could finish his sentence, Liu Hun’s hand shot out like a venomous snake, accurately and firmly capturing the other man’s wrist.
