Chapter 667: Chapter 618: Bringing Humiliation Upon Oneself

“Go ahead and sue! If you don’t have the money, I’ll give you a lawyer for free!” Liu Hun said to Hu Qinglan with a laugh.

As soon as Zhang Yuqing heard her boss back her up, she suddenly got brave, swung her arm around, and “smack,” she slapped Hu Qinglan across the face.

“Refreshing!” Zhang Yuqing slapped so hard that her own palm went numb, but the relief of venting her anger felt so satisfying.

“You… you really dare to hit…”

“Smack!”

Before Hu Qinglan could finish speaking, Zhang Yuqing slapped her other cheek with the back of her hand, “What about hitting you?! I love it! It’s exhilarating! It’s your fault for provoking me!”

After slapping her several times, Zhang Yuqing finally stopped, feeling content, while Hu Qinglan, surrounded by so many people, didn’t dare to retaliate and could only glare at Zhang Yuqing, covering her face.

“Watch your behavior from now on and don’t start trouble!” Liu Hun said, then beckoned to Wang Lai.

Wang Lai and a few others immediately rushed to Hu Qinglan’s side. Hu Qinglan, dizzy from the slapping, was still trying to understand what was happening when her shoes were taken off by Wang Lai and others, who then drove off.

Hu Qinglan didn’t realize what had happened for a long time until the broken car glass cut her feet and she understood what these people were up to, “Bastards! A bunch of scoundrels! I’ll get my revenge sooner or later… ah… it hurts…”

Cursing, Hu Qinglan walked a long way barefoot before she managed to hail a taxi home.

The next day, as soon as Zhang Yuqing arrived at the set, she hadn’t even gotten out of the car when she heard chaos erupting all around. The moment her nanny van stopped, and she stepped out, two police officers approached her.

“Are you Miss Zhang Yuqing?” the two officers asked.

Zhang Yuqing became nervous, nodding and saying, “Yes, I am!”

“Someone has accused you of intentional assault and deliberate property damage. Please come with us to assist in the investigation,” one of the officers told Zhang Yuqing.

“Yuqing Sister, Hu Qinglan and the director are both missing, could it be…” The female assistant, seeing Zhang Yuqing looking a bit off, didn’t dare continue.

Zhang Yuqing cooperatively followed the two police officers to the police station. As soon as she entered, she was taken to a room. Upon entering, she saw Hu Qinglan sitting there with folded arms, her cold gaze upon her. Despite the thick makeup, the marks of swelling were still somewhat visible on her face.

“Hmph!” Hu Qinglan turned her head away coldly as Zhang Yuqing walked in.

Sitting across from Hu Qinglan, Zhang Yuqing saw not only her lawyer but also another person she recognized from many magazine covers: the Crown Prince of Liheng Group—Qu Jiarong, no doubt Hu Qinglan’s financial backer.

“Miss Zhang Yuqing…”

“I want to see my lawyer!” Zhang Yuqing interrupted the officer’s questioning, “I won’t say a word without my lawyer here.”

“Then wait a moment…” The questioning officer was about to leave when the door opened.

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Miss Zhang,” a slightly chubby lawyer wearing glasses said with a smile as he walked in.

Seeing her lawyer, Zhang Yuqing felt much more relaxed, and the person who followed the lawyer in reassured her even more.

“Liu Hun!” Qu Jiarong shot up from his seat.

“Long time no see!” Liu Hun said with a smile to Qu Jiarong, not expecting Hu Qinglan’s sponsor to be this prodigal son.

“Humph! Long time, indeed!” Qu Jiarong said through gritted teeth, adjusting his suit and sitting down angrily.

“No worries! I’m here,” Liu Hun whispered to Zhang Yuqing as he sat down.

“Mhm!” Zhang Yuqing nodded, her heart fluttering a little.

“Inspector Ye!” The questioning officer suddenly stood up, shouting at the doorway. Everyone turned to look, and there stood a middle-aged man in uniform with slicked-back hair.

“You can leave. I’ll handle this personally!” Ye Hongren told the officer, then seated himself.

“So it’s Inspector Ye! Long time no see!” Qu Jiarong greeted Ye Hongren, shaking his hand in a chummy fashion.

“Good to see you, young Master Qu!” Ye Hongren reciprocated with a smile.

“Humph! We’ll see!” After retrieving his hand, Qu Jiarong taunted Liu Hun. Seeing the relationship between Qu Jiarong and Ye Hongren, Hu Qinglan regained confidence, pointed to her face, mimicked the slapping gesture, and then glared viciously at Zhang Yuqing.

“This incident happened last night at nine o’clock on the southern part of Johnston Road, in an intentional assault…” Ye Hongren read the documents in his hand, looked over them for a while, then asked Hu Qinglan, “Did Miss Hu report this case?”

“It was me!” Hu Qinglan immediately responded, then told Ye Hongren, “Yesterday, I was driving normally on Johnston Road when the car in front of me stopped, and then these two appeared. They ordered a bunch of people to smash my car and beat me up and even took off my shoes. Now I want to sue them for intentional injury and indecency!”

“Mmm…” Ye Hongren nodded, and then closed the documents in his hand, saying, “It seems that the facts are indeed as such, the sequence of events is clear and correct, with no doubts.”

Just as Ye Hongren was about to make a judgment, Zhang Yuqing’s lawyer spoke up, “Inspector Ye, as Miss Zhang’s lawyer, I would like to see both the testimony and the physical evidence.”

“What kind of attitude is that! Are you worried that I’m showing partiality?” Ye Hongren said displeasedly.

“Not at all! I just want fairness and justice, and besides, this is required by the law!” the lawyer responded without yielding an inch.

“Slam!” Ye Hongren slammed the folder on the table, then told the lawyer, “You wait for me to retrieve the surveillance footage from that street, and then we’ll see what you have to say.” After saying that, he glanced at Liu Hun and Zhang Yuqing before leaving the room.

As soon as Ye Hongren left, Qu Jiarong began to speak to Liu Hun, “I haven’t seen you in so long, I thought you might have died. Turns out you’re still a blight on society.”

Liu Hun smiled faintly and replied, “How could I bear to die when you’re still alive?”

“Don’t be slick, Liu Hun. You can’t even protect your woman; what good is talking tough? In Hong Kong, strength is what matters most. Don’t think that owning some shoddy entertainment company means you can forget your own name. Does hugging a washed-up, rotten star feel good?” Qu Jiarong taunted Liu Hun triumphantly.

Hearing this, Hu Qinglan felt incredibly satisfied and couldn’t help but scoff, “Washed-up… rotten star… an apt description indeed.”

“Qu Jiarong, you like to gamble; how about we bet on a mountain one more time?” Liu Hun suggested, ignoring Qu Jiarong’s gibes.

“Alright! What are we betting on?” Qu Jiarong’s spirits immediately perked up. He and Liu Hun had gambled many times, and he had lost every time. The more this happened, the more he wanted to regain his standing.

“We’re betting on whether Zhang Yuqing can walk out of the police station today,” Liu Hun threw down the wager.

“Hahaha…” Qu Jiarong couldn’t help laughing unrestrainedly. “Assault! Indecency charges! Administrative detention alone requires twelve hours! What makes you think she can walk out today?”

“So, are you in for the bet?” Liu Hun looked provocatively at Qu Jiarong.

“Name your price!” Qu Jiarong said to Liu Hun, brimming with confidence.

“If Zhang Yuqing can’t walk out of here today…” Before Liu Hun could finish, Hu Qinglan interjected, fixing a ferocious gaze on Zhang Yuqing as if she couldn’t wait to tear her apart.

Of course, Zhang Yuqing saw Ye Hongren’s biased attitude and felt somewhat faint-hearted. If she ended up in jail and was also slapped by Hu Qinglan, she would lose both face and dignity.

Liu Hun noticed Zhang Yuqing’s fear and reassured her, “Don’t be afraid at any time, I am here for you!”

Looking into Liu Hun’s confident eyes, Zhang Yuqing immediately regained her courage. She faced Hu Qinglan’s venomous gaze and said, “If I win! I will slap you twice!”

“Alright! Let’s have a go at it then,” Hu Qinglan retorted with a provocative tilt of her head and a smile at Zhang Yuqing.

Taking advantage of the lawyer’s presence, Qu Jiarong, fearing Liu Hun might back out and eager to grasp this perfect opportunity to humiliate him, had the lawyers from both sides draft a simple gambling agreement, which Zhang Yuqing and Hu Qinglan both signed.

Right after the signatures were made, Ye Hongren walked in.

“Inspector Ye! Have you retrieved the surveillance footage? Surely we can close the case now?” Qu Jiarong asked eagerly.

“With such conclusive physical evidence, I think we should play it in front of everyone so that those harboring any hopes will lose heart,” Hu Qinglan said coldly, shooting a glance at Zhang Yuqing.

“Do both parties agree to play it?” Ye Hongren asked, holding the tape in his hand.

“Agreed!” Both lawyers nodded in response.

“Alright then!” Ye Hongren immediately inserted the tape into the VCR.

“Squeak squeak squeak… squeak squeak squeak…” The VCR started reading the tape, and the television screen immediately displayed the scene from last night at nine o’clock on Johnston Road.

Seeing this screen, Zhang Yuqing’s palms were already sweating; she couldn’t imagine what life in prison would be like.

“Heh! Look! Some people’s crimes are about to be exposed!” Hu Qinglan could no longer contain the joy of revenge in her heart, and turning to Zhang Yuqing, she rubbed her hands together and smirked, “You know? Slapping your face — no matter how painful for the hand — will feel refreshingly satisfying.”

“Slap! Slap!” Two resounding slaps echoed in the small room.

Everyone was stunned by the two slaps, and Hu Qinglan, in particular, was covering her face, her eyes wide as she stared at Zhang Yuqing. “You… you… you dare hit me… I’ll kill you!”

“Take a good look at this.” Zhang Yuqing clapped her hands, indicating for Hu Qinglan to watch the TV.

Fuelling her rage, Hu Qinglan turned her head to stare at the television. It repeatedly showed last night’s footage at nine o’clock on Johnston Road. To her shock, she saw her Porsche appear and then drive straight past without incident, with the television still displaying a tranquil Johnston Road.

“Impossible! How could it be? It can’t be! They must have tampered with it! Inspector Ye! They’re playing tricks!” Hu Qinglan lost control of her emotions, grabbing onto Ye Hongren’s arm and shouting, the slap marks from yesterday still visible on her face — how could she forget.
