The Fortunate Demoniac Little Village Doctor -
Chapter 574 - 574 544 Arrival
574: Chapter 544 Arrival 574: Chapter 544 Arrival After several days of preparation, Liu Hun had finally gathered all the necessary documents and completed a myriad of procedures before he flew to Lion City.
As soon as Liu Hun disembarked from the plane and entered the Lion City International Airport, he saw someone holding a sign to welcome him and thought to himself that Xu Qingwei had indeed arranged everything perfectly.
“Excuse me, are you Mr.
Liu Hun?” the receptionist, a man dressed in business attire, asked politely.
“Yes, I am Liu Hun,” responded Liu Hun.
“Then please follow me.” The receptionist led Liu Hun out of the airport and into a car, driving him directly to the headquarters of the Huaihuang Pharmaceutical Company.
“Mr.
Liu, this is the twelfth floor where our Huaihuang Company’s headquarters is located.
Please come with me,” said the man as he got out of the car and guided Liu Hun into the elevator.
It was Liu Hun’s first visit to Lion City, and the impression the city left on him was one of congestion and busyness, as if everyone was rushing against time.
However, he thought, without such diligence, a city of this grandeur could not have been built.
Following the receptionist via the elevator, they arrived at the twelfth floor, where the man then led Liu Hun to a reception room before leaving.
Bored, Liu Hun looked out the window of the reception room and saw the entire Victoria Harbor before his eyes, appreciating that the companies renting office space here must be financially robust and powerful.
“Mr.
Liu.”
While Liu Hun was enjoying the view of Victoria Harbor, a woman’s voice suddenly called from behind.
He immediately turned around and saw a fashionably dressed woman with red hair and a short skirt.
The woman was quite attractive, a seven or an eight perhaps, but the heavy makeup somewhat spoiled her natural charm.
“I’m sorry, I am Liu Hun,” said Liu Hun as he politely shook hands with the woman.
The woman smiled and sat down.
“My name is Mary, I’m the business manager at Huaihuang Company, and I’m the one responsible for discussing this collaboration with you.”
“Hello, Miss Mary, here are the documents I brought.
Please take a look,” said Liu Hun, handing over all the documents he had prepared to Mary.
Mary carefully flipped through the documents brought by Liu Hun.
After a long while, she closed the documents and said, “Mr.
Liu, you haven’t cooperated with multinational companies before, have you?”
“No, I…” Liu Hun began to respond but was interrupted by Mary, “The kind of thing you’re doing, I simply can’t comprehend.
Moreover, to be honest, any random place in Southeast Asia is ten times better than your place.”
Mary spoke bluntly, her nose sniffing scornfully.
“If it weren’t for the sake of Director Xu, I wouldn’t have even met with someone from the Mainland like you.
Do you think you can come here with such material and scam money?
You’re too naive.
You might be able to deceive Director Xu, but you can’t fool me.
I’m sorry, but we’re really not interested in your project.” Standing up arrogantly, Mary added before leaving, “Oh, by the way, next time you come to Lion City, try to wear a better suit.
Though, you probably can’t afford one, so maybe you Mainlanders shouldn’t come to Lion City at all.”
After delivering these haughty words, she departed, leaving Liu Hun so furious he felt as if his lungs would explode.
Not only was there no collaboration, but he also had to endure an unprovoked barrage of insults.
He couldn’t understand where these colonial second-class citizens got their sense of superiority.
Shaking his head, Liu Hun was just about to leave the reception room with his documents when suddenly, a few security guards dragged a man and threw him at the elevator entrance.
“I need to see your general manager, he must give us an explanation!” shouted the man tossed at the elevator entrance, his hand trembling uncontrollably, clearly suffering from some illness, as he sat by the elevator entrance continuously calling out.
“Get lost!
If you don’t leave now, I’ll beat you to death!” a security guard fiercely said to the man.
“You said your medical experiment was harmless to humans, that’s a total lie!
You’re all frauds!” the man said unsteadily as he stood up.
“Hmph, stop talking nonsense here.
If you’re brave enough, go sue us in court!
Winning would actually prove your capability!” the security guard said, pointing his baton at the man.
“What’s all the noise about?” Suddenly, Mary’s voice came from behind the several security guards.
“Manager, this man has come again,” the security guard said, immediately changing his attitude upon seeing Mary.
Mary, hands in her pants pockets, looked disdainfully at the trembling man, “I told you not to cause any more trouble, or I’ll call the police right away.”
“You are frauds!
You are frauds!” the man said excitedly and lunged towards Mary, only to fall to the ground as soon as he moved.
“Humph, we signed a contract.
We fulfilled our obligation to inform about all procedures and medication effects.
This is your last warning, if you cause any more trouble, you’ll end up in jail,” Mary said harshly as she threw a few coins at the man, “Take these and get lost fast!”
Then, as Mary turned around, she saw Liu Hun, sneered at him with a glimpse, and seemed to mutter the word “Mainlander” before leaving.
Several security guards lined up, blocking the man who struggled to stand up, his clumsy and comical actions eliciting a burst of laughter from the guards.
Liu Hun couldn’t stand to watch, stepped forward, and helped the man up, just as the elevator arrived and he helped the man into the elevator.
“Thank you!
Thank you!” the man leaned against Liu Hun, continuously expressing his gratitude.
“Don’t mention it, let me take you home,” Liu Hun said, sensing that just traveling here was a huge effort for the man.
As they sat in a taxi, the man shared his entire experience with Liu Hun.
The man had been a construction worker and saw an advertisement for a drug trial by Huaihuang Company in the newspaper.
Attracted by the generous compensation, he participated.
Unexpectedly, Huaihuang Company showed them materials all in English.
Considering the attractive payout and the company’s promises, he took the medication provided.
However, after several treatment courses, he developed tremors that worsened over time.
During this, Huaihuang Company continued the drug trials, deceiving him to keep taking the medication until he developed intermittent spasms all over his body.
Realizing he had been used as a lab rat, the trial failed, and even after hiring a lawyer and suing repeatedly, he lost, because his name was on an English consent form he couldn’t understand, signed as Li Tianrong.
“I’ve spent all my money and am now sick all over.
My wife even took the kids and left,” Li Tianrong sighed deeply, regretting that he had been greedy for that little advantage.
“Here we are, I live here,” Li Tianrong pointed outside the car window.
Liu Hun helped Li Tianrong out of the car and looked around, surprised to find such an impoverished side in the flourishing Lion City.
Under Li Tianrong’s direction, Liu Hun helped him to a temple, which seemed well kept, with devotees coming in and out.
“I live in this temple, please come in and take a look,” Li Tianrong warmly invited Liu Hun.
Liu Hun followed Li Tianrong into the temple and realized, though Lion City had many second-class citizens trying to scrape a living, it also had many who deeply respected traditions.
“This is a temple built by a very kind person who also lives here.
Mr.
Liu, let me take you to meet him,” Li Tianrong said, not waiting for Liu Hun’s response before leading him into the deepest room of the temple.
