Chapter 45: Know your place

Chapter 45: Know your place

’The Fairy, the most beautiful beings to grace this lowly plane, representing the real peak of beauty and attractiveness. Even masters from the higher heavens come down in search of these wondrous entities!’

Upon hearing this, if he even did, Ying didn’t respond.

His eyes were too busy treating themselves to a plump set of maiden meat balls. His mouth simply hung open, not even caring about the unsuspecting flies that were ready to seize the initiative.

’Oi, Ex-con... I apologize for every bad thing that I’ve ever said to you...’ He said, tussling with the tears which welled up in his eyes.

He could die peacefully now; just witnessing this sight was already a blessing.

’Sorry, but I can’t allow you to die just yet kiddo. Now pay attention, this is the important....’

While Ying and the enigmatic entity were having their internal conversation, the Fairy also engaged in her own maelstrom of internal deliberations. The top topic, of course, was Ying.

’Who is this human? He feels rather... detestable.’

’What is he doing here? How did he bypass my barrier? From what I can see, he is merely at the Body Tempering stage; his lowly ilk should not even have perceived this secluded space. He should have just walked right past it, like the other beasts, without even being aware of its existence... But even if he somehow managed to do that, how did he get past my defensive array?

He should have been blown to smithereens by the formations I set up, yet he... It’s probably due to the fact that he doesn’t even possess a Dantian, he wouldn’t even be sensed by my Circle. How did he get here then, perhaps it was an accident?’

’Sigh... Whatever, if I sense even the slightest sign of hostility from him, I will put him down.’ The skeptical fairy concluded decisively.

Ying needed to get his shit together... and quick. Fortunately, he was just about rounding up his prep talk, ’Remember, do exactly as I told you, else you WILL get killed. Fairies are EXTREMELY proud creatures.’

Ying didn’t respond, instead he mentally prepared himself for what he was about to do. It was quite disappointing, considering his plans for a harem of beautiful women.

Of course, the Lady in question was one such whom no beauty on earth could ever even hope to match. But still, game is game. You either got it, or you don’t....

....And Ying was starting to look like he belonged to the latter category.

’Oh shut up, you!’

"Well, I’m waiting..." The enchanting Fairy spoke, sending ripples of charm through Ying’s self, all his mental preparation going to the gutter.

He became flustered once more. Honestly, if composure around beautiful females was a currency, he’d have had to file for bankruptcy.

’Focus Kid!’ The nameless entity had to step in, and for good reason, else things never would have progressed.

Clearing his thought, Ying took a not-so-smooth bow, and said;

"Oh venerable Fairy, I am but a weary traveler from a distant land, come in search of the treasure you hide behind this wood. Please, grant me the honor of taking your hearth!" Ying yelled, stretching his right hand out in a manner reminiscent of a romantic maestro.

Following his words... was a deafening silence?

Nobody spoke, and no noises were made, as if the very vegetation themselves had stopped swaying to attune to the palpable calm.

Ying was visibly confused.

He looked over at the Fairy. Her head was beautifully slanted downwards just enough for her hair to cast a shadow over her face. The visage was as picturesque as it was imposing.

Ying couldn’t drown the dark foreboding that climbed up over his spine, yet in the end, the first one to break the silence was his incorporeal partner.

And he was...

’Pfft...HehehehahaahaHaHAHaha!!!’

...laughing?

Ying wanted to question him, but his vocal chords were no match.... for a Fairy’s wrath!

Once more, the oppressive aura spread throughout the space, but this time, it was ten, no, a hundred times more overbearing! Ying couldn’t even maintain a standing posture, struggling to not have his flesh mashed into the stalwart earth.

He grit his teeth as pain spread over him, his lungs and heart palpitating wilding. His vision soon became blurry with suffocation, and a majority of all sound stopped reaching his ears.

All sound, except of course... The demeaning laughter of the nameless entity.

’HAHAHAHAHAHAHkehahahahaHA!!’

It was twisted and uneven.

Ying soon realized his own errs.

’Damn it, damn it, DAMN IT! You BASTARD!! WHAT DID YOU DO?!!’ Ying strained his mind, veins bulging on his forehead, and an infinite swarm of wrath directed at his so called partner.

’HahahaHAHAkekeHE! Oh, I didn’t tell you? It must have escaped my mind somehow (He shrugged). You know it’s not every day one gets to come across an otherworlder who is ignorant of these traditions! HahahahahahahkeHE!’

SNAP! CRASH! BOOM!

The trees started collapsing.

’...You see, most magical beasts on this plane, are born with more than a single heart. Fairies specifically are born with two, hearths, one of which stays in their body to supply them life, and the other...

"How dare you..." The fairy muttered, disgust laced in her voice as she increased her pressure.

Ying was now barely breathing, struggling endlessly just to take a single gasp of breath.

’...the other, they give to their betrothed. It’s like a symbol of love unique to the Fairy’s culture, and must be hidden away until the time for matrimony comes.’

’C-crap!’

Ying was finally starting to get the clear picture now.

He had been tricked, he had been deceived, he had been used, again!

’Do you get it now, Ying? You basically broke into the home of one of the most prideful creatures on this plane and asked her to be your personal Harlot! I knew you were a little unhinged, but isn’t this a bit TOO overzealous? Hahahaha haha!’

The nameless one’s laughter reverberated through the incorporeal walls of Ying’s psyche, thrusting him into turmoil of a thousand different emotions. All of them mixed and overlapped with one another, forming one giant bubble of insanity!

’Why... Why did I forget, just what sort of creature I was dealing with...’ Images of the grotesque human blood painting came to mind, as a powerfully wave dragged his body into the cold grasp of the enraged Fairy.

Her grip on his neck was unprecedented, not even leaving any room for meaningless struggles.

’Again... I made the same mistake. Again, I was too lax! Again, I let my guard down!’ Ying berated himself whilst his mind overflowed the ever-present ring of loathsome laughter.

"Never in my centuries, have I ever been subjected to such disgrace... And from a lowly human, no less!" Energy rippled around her free arm as an object made of pure Qi manifested.

WHIRRRRR!

’Tch, dammit! I can’t die here, I won’t die her—eouk!! E- Ex.... bastard, you have to lend me a hand....’ Ying yelled shamelessly, then all of a sudden, the laughter stopped.

And why should I?’

’Eh?’

’Maybe this will teach you to think twice about pulling stunts like the one you did earlier.’ The nameless one harrumphed.

’W-w-what?! But YOU tried to take over MY body! What the hell, you bastard... Ugh,’ Ying’s thought stuttered, ’Listen, if I die here, you die also. Do you understand that? You are throwing both our lives away just to get back at some meaningless... thing! There is no justification for this, stop acting like a child you damned wanker!’

Ying tried to make the mad man see reason....

What a truly pointless endeavor.

For a short stream of seconds, Ying’s psyche was filled with the absence of sound, a grave silence!

Then...

’Listen here, BOY, my age is not something the likes of you could even fathom,’ He started, ’I have lived a very long life, and during the course of my millenniums, I have committed treacherous atrocities that you couldn’t even dream up. I have slighted the hands of Fate, time and time again, and I have made an enemy of the Gods themselves. Of course, I was punished for my misdeeds, but do I regret my actions?’

He asked, but before Ying could even think up an answer, he responded.

’...No, not in the slightest. Even if it meant my own extinction, I’d do them all over again, and if I somehow got reincarnated? I’d still do them again. You asked for my name once, so let this serve as my introduction AND my farewell to you...’

’I am [•••••], the Deranged Prince of Pandemonium, the Herald of Greed and the hell-spawn of Death. I am the very first Calamity. You think I need a reason, or a cause to justify my actions? How naive, how foolish. You see, we are not the same, Ying.’ The nameless one’s voice trailed off as the energy ripples grew stronger!

The weapon fully manifested, taking the form of a long slender spear, its sharply pointed edge promising judgment to all, "Be gone from my sight, filth..." The Fairy said, pulling back her weapon.

Her verdant eyes met with Ying’s inky orbs, and at that moment, his world slowed down. Somehow, he felt the condescending gaze of the enigmatic Herald of Greed, as well as the wrathful eyes of the Fairy fall on him, all at once.

Perhaps, it was a coincidence, or perhaps, it was an act designed by the heavens themselves, set for the sole purpose of spiting him... Whatever it was, the cause of course, Ying undoubtedly heard the voices of the nameless one and the Fairy overlap, both reflecting each others’ words.

"’KNOW YOUR PLACE, HUMAN VERMIN!"’

The lustrous spear flashed, and in an instant, Ying was overcome by the weight of the heavens. His pathetic mortal body, crumbled like a twig under its divine pressure, exploding into an ugly mesh of flesh, blood and bone.

Everything went dark, for a split second... Before, finally, the long-destined message arrived, sporting a bloody red hue.

[You have died!]
