Chapter 454: Chapter 141 Cang Jie Creates Characters

In the battle for supremacy, Xuanyuan, representing the Inland Human Clan of Chen Capital, fought against Chi You, who represented the Four Extremes Barbarians, for several years, but ultimately triumphed.

The magnanimous and virtuous Xuanyuan defeated the Four Barbarian Tribes without resorting to massacre. Following Feng Hou’s advice, he thoroughly dispersed these savage tribes and sent them to the Four Great Continents.

In Feng Hou’s words, this was to subtly dissolve the tribal consciousness of the Four Barbarian Tribes and better reintegrate them under the royal Taoist education.

From then on, the Human Clan achieved true unification, its might shaking the Four Seas and unifying all under Heaven and Earth. The entire Huaxia Land, wherever the Human Clan resided, came under Chen Capital’s jurisdiction.

Xuanyuan, having fulfilled his vow, led the great army of Chen Capital back to Chen Capital.

Peace reigned for thirty years thereafter. During these years, Xuanyuan devoted himself entirely to the construction of the clan.

The Human Clan was unified internally and externally, but there were still many tasks to be done, such as currency, weights and measures... and most importantly, there was no writing system! Apart from oral transmission, the only alternative was the complicated Tao Runes.

Sadly, at present, only Cultivators and the Clan Leaders and Elders of various tribes had some understanding of the Tao Runes, while the rest of the clan members had no clue at all.

If one wished to leave a legacy, the issue of writing must be solved, and indeed it had to be!

With his mind in turmoil, Xuanyuan couldn’t concern himself with internal governance. Fortunately, peace reigned within the Human Clan, and any minor frictions were quickly resolved.

Wandering through Chen Capital, Xuanyuan carefully surveyed the living conditions of his people.

The bustling Chen Capital was filled with voices and hustle. Elders chatted in the sunlight, men bartered goods, women sewed clothing, and children chased each other laughing... The sincere smiles on every face seemed to smooth away the irritations in Xuanyuan’s heart.

Suddenly, just as Xuanyuan was approaching the city gate of Chen Capital, he was drawn to a shabby-looking middle-aged man.

The man had a full beard and long, neck-length hair that was unkempt, showing he hadn’t groomed himself for many days. Even the broad animal hide he wrapped himself in was torn and tattered, the man’s destitution was extreme.

Taking a few steps closer, Xuanyuan heard the man mumbling continuously: "The Great Sun rises in the east, its shape is round, and there’s the burning sun... natural, natural... no, that’s not right..."

Xuanyuan was curious and looked down, only to see the ground by the man’s feet covered with a variety of peculiar symbols, some resembling the moon, some like plants and trees, and others akin to wild beasts and birds in flight.

By now, it was midday and a child with a yellow-glowing wheat bun in his arms came running over "pitter-patter", handing the bun to the man and said in a babyish voice: "Uncle, my daddy said you’ve been here for five days without eating a bite. He sent me to bring you these wheat buns!"

The man looked up in a daze, smiling at the child about four years old before him, and said: "Kid, uncle is not hungry! Keep these buns for yourself."

The child shook his head and replied: "My daddy says he doesn’t know what you’re doing drawing here, but he knows you are a person of great virtue. So, please accept them!"

After saying that, the child tossed the wheat buns to the man and then ran away.

The man murmured with emotion: "To create a written language for such a Human Clan, I would die without regrets!"

Xuanyuan, who had been quietly watching by the man’s side, was profoundly shocked. He hadn’t expected to encounter a man of such exceptional talent in this world; to create a writing system for the Human Clan, he had fasted and forsook sleep for five days. Such dedication was truly a mark of great virtue!

With this thought, Xuanyuan deeply bowed to the man and said: "Sir, your great virtue truly epitomizes the ethos of our Human Clan! Xuanyuan admires and respects you!"

As if noticing Xuanyuan for the first time, the man’s eyes twinkled, he straightened his torn and tattered animal hide a bit and then bowed, saying: "Cang Jie, of the Human Clan, pays respect to Emperor Xuanyuan. Your Majesty, may you be ever auspicious!"

Xuanyuan hurriedly lifted Cang Jie, saying: "Sir, there’s no need for such formalities! To speak the truth, I have been worried about the matter of legacy these days, but the task of creating a writing system is so monumental, I have not had the slightest idea how to begin!"

Cang Jie tidied up his long hair, casually stuck the wooden stick he had been using to write into his hair, and said: "Your Majesty, after many years of contemplation, although occasionally inspired, I’ve only managed to create a few symbols. The rest, I’m afraid, will still require more time."

Xuanyuan, catching a glimpse of Cang Jie’s now-revealed face, felt an extremely familiar sensation, but couldn’t recall where he had seen him before.

Shaking his head in resignation, Xuanyuan composed himself and said: "Sir, Xuanyuan would like to request your presence in the great hall to discuss the matter of creating a written language, may I?"

Cang Jie nodded slightly, his bearded face suddenly breaking into a brilliant smile: "It’s my own wish as well, I wouldn’t dare to postpone it!"

Thus, Cang Jie accompanied Xuanyuan back to the great hall located at the center of the Holy Land.

However, Xuanyuan did not notice that Cang Jie very discreetly sent a flash of golden light toward the child who had given him the wheat bun.

Years later, when the boy ascended to the Heavenly Court, he had forgotten the disheveled, foolish-looking uncle, but he could never forget Cang Jie, the Saint who contributed immensely to the Human Clan by inventing writing!

East Sea Coast, Human Ancestral Land.

At this moment, perched upon the Small Cliff were seven men and women—remarkably, the Human Clan’s Eight Ancestors.

"Big brother, it looks like Shi Huang has stumbled upon an opportunity!" You Chao shook his head as he watched the distant sea’s surging waves, thoroughly excited.

"Hmm!" Sui Ren nodded and said, "Among the eight siblings in our circle, I, You Chao, Ziyi, and Tao Wen have all found our opportunities. Once Shi Huang breaks free from his shackles this time, I believe our Human Clan will make another qualitative leap!"

"Big brother, it seems we’ll soon be congratulating Brother Shi Huang!" Zhong Jing and others joined in, their faces showing joy, yet their eyes revealed a hint of regret.

Seeing this, the others could only accept it as it was. After all, when opportunity comes, it becomes clear who will thrive; fretting is futile.

Meanwhile, Li Qingming, who had just returned to Penglai Island, felt a stir in his spirit, and instantly knew that Shi Huang had encountered an opportunity and had assumed the name Cang Jie, heading to the Human Clan Sacred Land, Chen Capital, to begin the research and creation of characters.

"I really am born to toil," Li Qingming chuckled with a shake of his head. With a flick of his hand, a round Water Mirror abruptly appeared high in the sky.

Displayed within the Water Mirror, inside a side hall of Chen Capital’s council chamber, was the disheveled Cang Jie, stooped over and smearing something on the Eight Diagrams Heavenly Plate. Above his head, three feet in the air, floated a green light filled with Mysterious Runes swirling about. Thick Star Power descended straight down from above, enlightening radiance reaching up to the Nine Heavens.

"You are indeed in a rush!" Li Qingming sensed that Cang Jie was eager for quick results, hoping to use Star Power to hasten the creation of characters.

Little did he know, haste makes waste. Vainly channeling Star Power merely hastens the depletion of True Yuan within.

Li Qingming took out a dazzlingly golden brocade handkerchief from his storage space, which was once a rubric of Demon Texts personally written by Kunpeng during the creation of Demon Texts. Such a treasure would never have seen the light of day if not for Li Qingming being the master of Kunpeng.

"Go!" Li Qingming tossed it towards Huaxia Land, and the resplendent handkerchief flew straight towards Chen Capital. Muttering to himself, he said, "Whether or not you comprehend, it all depends on your fate now!"

Cang Jie, deep in contemplation, suddenly heard a whistling sound from the sky. Looking up, he saw a golden brilliance flickering amidst the Starlight above.

Curious, Cang Jie reached out and caught the handkerchief, only to find it resembling silk yet thinner than hair.

Upon unfolding it, the words "Demon Text" at the beginning shone like twinkling stars, flying straight into Cang Jie’s mind.

Cang Jie trembled, his eyes wide with shock as he looked down to see countless intricate patterns within the handkerchief, tiny as the head of a fly, densely packed, amounting to three thousand!

Cang Jie knew these were the Demon Texts created by the Kunpeng Demon Master. Believing it was Kunpeng’s intention to aid him, he deeply bowed towards the direction of Little Beiming to express his gratitude.

Afterwards, Cang Jie held the handkerchief and quietly pondered over it, as though experiencing a stroke of genius, his mind suddenly enlightened. Many confusions were easily unraveled, and even his cultivation seemed to be soaring—likely enough to step into the Quasi-Saint Realm with sufficient strength.

In the following days, Cang Jie brimmed with inspiration. Thus, he began to fathom the changes of Heaven and Earth, gazing upon the stars for their patterns, scrutinizing the inscriptions of tortoises and birds as well as the spirits of mountains and rivers, creating the shapes of characters with a flick of his fingers.

This went on for about ten years.

One day, Cang Jie, who had been engrossed in creating characters within his residence, suddenly bolted out with his hair disheveled.

He burst into wild laughter in the courtyard, exclaiming loudly, "Now, our Human Clan finally has a legacy of writing. I thank the heavens! Hahaha, I thank the heavens!"

At this juncture, thick Yuqing True Essence surged from Cang Jie’s body. He took the wooden hairpin from his hair and rose into the air, looking up as he said, "I am Human Ancestor, Shi Huang, creating a thousand characters for our legacy! Let all my Human kin pay close attention!"

Holding the hairpin, Yuqing True Essence roared inside him, manifesting a devouring presence of Heaven and Earth.

"Heaven, Earth, Sun..."

A series of ancient, towering characters suddenly took flight, their images instantly propagating across the entire Huaxia Land. Every member of the Human Clan felt clarity in their hearts and their eyes gleamed with golden light, imprinting these characters deep within their minds.

"Boom!"

As the last character was imprinted into the firmament, the sky suddenly darkened. The Infinite Firmament above became overcast with clouds, countless Electric Snakes and Thunder Pythons surged, and a terrifying pressure descended from Heaven and Earth.

"Boom!"

A thunderbolt as thick as an arm struck down, targeting Shi Huang. Unfazed, Shi Huang extended his hairpin and lightly tapped.

"Pff!"

A streak of golden light flashed upon the hairpin, instantly extinguishing the thunderbolt.

"Rumble!"

The clouds seemed angered by Shi Huang, as nature’s spiritual energy violently gathered. Endless flashes of lightning and vast thunder overwhelmed Heaven and Earth, transforming into a sea of Thunder and Lightning. (To be continued.
