For Li Qingming, who had lived a past life, a hundred years was indeed an entire lifespan gone by.
Yet on this Primordial Land, time is exactly what’s least valuable.
During these hundred years, Li Qingming sat firmly in the Netherworld Blood Sea, conversing daily with the Netherworld River, while occasionally guiding the first two Asura clanspeople who had just come into being.
Considering the legends that would come after, Li Qingming even, with perverse delight, named the first Asura man as Indra and the first Asura woman as Tie Shan.
One day, as Li Qingming was discussing Taoism with the Netherworld River, a clear and bright voice echoed throughout Primordial Heaven and Earth.
“I am the Primordial Venerable.
Today, I have set up an Array at the foot of East Kunlun Mountain.
All beings of Primordial Land are welcome to try their hand at the Array!
Those who break through shall be accepted as my disciples!”
Upon hearing this, the Netherworld River chuckled and said, “Fellow Daoist, it seems your Xuan Sect eldest disciple will soon be troubled by countless beings!
Hahaha…”
Li Qingming merely smiled and shook his head.
Hearing this proclamation, the beings of Primordial Land were struck with fervor.
They hurriedly called friends and spread the word, rushing towards Kunlun Mountain.
The Primordial Land was thrown into a wild frenzy.
Spirits of animals and plants, and the entire Human Clan, all eagerly merged into the pilgrimage tide!
…
But why did Primordial and Tongtian make such a grand gesture when taking disciples?
It is said among The Three Pure Ones, Laozi established the Human Sect, naturally with humans at its core.
With the cosmic trends clear, All Saints knew that the Human Clan was bound to rise.
Laozi’s founding of the Human Sect thus connected it with the Qi Fortune of the Human Clan.
However, as he had not gained Nuwa’s consent prior to establishing the sect, he managed to obtain two-tenths of the Human Clan’s Qi Fortune for himself.
If he wished to spread Taoism now, it would certainly involve the Human Clan.
If Laozi failed to notify Nuwa this time, he was afraid that he would completely fall out with her.
Since Nuwa was the Human Clan’s Holy Mother, if she decided to cause trouble within the Human Sect, wouldn’t Laozi end up gaining nothing?
Having no choice, Laozi had to visit the Nuwa Palace.
In a blink of an eye, Laozi arrived at the palace gate of Nuwa Palace, located beyond the thirty-third level of Outer Heaven.
A child finely sculpted like jade had already been waiting at the entrance.
Upon seeing Laozi in his moon-white Daoist robe, with his long beard fluttering, the child stepped forward to perform a courtesy and asked, “May I inquire if you are the Taiching Saint?”
Laozi returned the courtesy upon the child’s question, replying, “Indeed, it is I.”
Seeing that it was actually the Taiching Saint, the child bowed again and said, “The Holy Mother had foreseen the Saint’s arrival and has specially commanded Lingzhu Zi to wait here for you!
The holy mother invites you to follow me, please.”
With a slight nod, Laozi followed the child into the Nuwa Palace.
He saw Nuwa sitting upright on the cushion in the palace, her cherry lips parting slightly to say, “May I ask for what purpose the Elder Brother has graced us with his visit today?”
Laozi forced a smile, knowing full well that Nuwa was in a great rage.
Having no alternative, for he was under Nuwa’s roof and had to bow his head since he sought a favor, could he not put aside his pride?
Laozi bowed deeply to Nuwa and sincerely said, “It has been a while, Sister!
I have come here today for two reasons: one is regarding the matter when I established the sect and divided your share of the Qi Fortune; the second is about spreading Taoism amongst the Human Clan.”
“Oh?” Nuwa’s phoenix eyes glinted as she inquired, “What does Fellow Daoist suggest?”
Laozi thought to himself, “It seems I must make a painful sacrifice!”
From his capacious sleeves, Laozi produced a small, creamy-white vial and said, “This is the Nine Revolutions Golden Pill, which I have cultivated within the Time Law Plate from ten thousand Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures over nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine years.
Humans who consume it can immediately become immortals, transcending to the level of Taiyi!
It is also a holy medicine for healing; below the level of Quasi-Saint, no matter how grievous the injury, a single pill will take immediate effect.
There are ninety-nine pills in this vial—I shall give them all to my sister.”
Nuwa took the vial, slowly shook her head, and said, “It’s not enough.”
Laozi’s heart felt as though it was bleeding.
He had only ever made two vials of the Nine Revolutions Golden Pills.
The first vial was shared among Primordial, Tongtian, and Li Qingming.
Now that he had given the second vial to Nuwa, he literally had nothing left.
Seeing Laozi’s hesitant expression, Nuwa spoke out, “As long as the Elder Brother agrees to owe this little sister a favor, we can put behind us the matter of dividing the Qi Fortune, and I would also allow you to teach within the Human Clan.”
Laozi clenched his teeth and said, “As my sister wishes!”
Nuwa stood up gracefully and performed a courtesy, saying, “In that case, Elder Brother must not forget today’s words.”
Laozi nodded and thought to himself, “What a troublesome little sister!” With that in mind, he returned on his own to the Primordial Land.
When Laozi mentioned this matter to Primordial and Tongtian, Tongtian burst into laughter and said, “Big brother, I never thought you’d have a time when you’d be stumped!”
Laozi gave a wry smile and said, “My esteemed younger brothers, my problem is easy to solve!
However, if you wish to impart the Tao, you cannot do so without disciples!
I think both of you esteemed brothers should also start taking in disciples soon!”
Both Tongtian and Primordial happily agreed, and after discussing it, Tongtian left Kunlun to search for disciples with whom he shared a destiny.
Primordial, on the other hand, was much more direct.
He built a Great Formation at the foot of Kunlun Mountain that tested the heart and determination of living beings.
Only those who passed the formation would be acknowledged and taken in under his wing.
That is why the scene from before occurred!
However, within just a hundred years, the foot of East Kunlun Mountain was swarming with shadows, crowded with people.
At that moment, a bright white radiance suddenly shot down from the peak of the mountain.
It quickly flew above the heads of all creatures, and they saw that it was a gigantic white crane with a long neck and white feathers.
The crane gracefully flipped in mid-air and floated down to the ground, transforming into a child with rosy lips and white teeth.
This child looked about seven or eight years old, wearing a Daoist robe embroidered with auspicious clouds, which made him look even more handsome and endearing.
The child turned to the crowd and said, “I am the White Crane Boy, a disciple of the Yuqing Saint.
I am here by command of the Lord Yuqing to open the Array Gate for all Fellow Daoists!
Should a Fellow Daoist be fortunate enough to break the formation, White Crane shall personally lead the way to the Three Pure Ones Hall!
Heart Refining Array, arise!”
This White Crane Boy is the first white crane among Heaven and Earth.
A few years ago, when he was transcending his Heavenly Tribulation, he was casually saved by Primordial.
Since his transformation resulted in the form of a child, and Primordial had long wished to have a child attendant, he kept him by his side.
White Crane was indeed clever and possessed an extraordinary comprehension ability, hence he was deeply favored by Primordial.
The task of selecting disciples this time was entrusted to him.
As the White Crane Boy’s voice fell, thick fog abruptly surged from all directions!
That boundless fog quickly spread throughout the entire formation.
“Fellow Daoists, enter the formation!” the White Crane Boy said with a light chuckle, pointing to the formation behind him.
“Boom!”
It was like poking a hornet’s nest; creatures rushed frantically towards the Heart Refining Array.
In less than the time it takes to brew a cup of tea, perhaps tens of billions of beings had surged into the Heart Refining Array.
“I wonder how many disciples the Lord will take!” murmured the White Crane Boy softly, just about to fly to the other side of the formation when he saw a Daoist approaching in the distance, wearing a long green robe.
White Crane halted in his motion, reopened the formation, and called out loudly, “Fellow Daoist, you’ve come late!
If White Crane had left earlier, you might have missed this great opportunity!”
Li Qingming smiled at White Crane and nodded, then his body swayed as he entered the formation.
White Crane’s eyes lit up.
“This Daoist seems to have some cultivation!”
Inside the Heart Refining Array at this moment, there were mostly beast transformations, plant spirits, innate spiritual objects transformed into human form, and very few from the Human Clan.
Among the multitude of transformed beasts, some were as if frozen in place, some walked straight ahead, and some wildly waved their weapons and magic treasures!
It was as if they had fallen into some kind of illusion, unable to extricate themselves!
The plant spirits, innate spiritual objects in human form, and individuals from the Human Clan, however, looked serene, taking measured and deliberate steps forward.
Li Qingming suddenly felt that perhaps the later generations were not wrong, but it was not because Primordial Venerable disliked the Demon Race.
Rather, this Heart Refining Array prioritized heart nature and determination.
If one’s heart nature was poor or determination weak, they would be ejected from the formation.
The Demon Race was adept in fighting and killing, inevitably accruing some evil Qi!
Hence, getting caught in the environment was not to be frowned upon.
This also explained why, in later generations, those who ultimately became Primordial’s disciples were either innate spiritual objects or members of the Human Clan.
Li Qingming walked leisurely in the Heart Refining Array, the white fog infiltrating everywhere but unable to penetrate his Primordial Spirit Space,
“Whoosh!”
A Daluo Golden Immortal, who transformed from a black bear, had blood-red eyes and was holding a gigantic Mountain-opening Axe, hacking madly.
Suddenly, his body shook, the axe fell to the ground, and his body involuntarily soared, being flung out of the Heart Refining Array by the thick white fog.
Li Qingming shook his head and sighed, “With such heavy Killing Aura, how can one pass the Heart Refining Array!
To refine the heart, to refine the heart; so easily succumbing to the urge to kill, how can one exit this formation!
What a joke, a joke!
Hahaha…”
