Chapter 977: Chapter 977: Xiaomei (2)

Yang Ruxin merely listened with a smile and didn’t join the conversation. Although she was quite curious about gossip, she did not wish to interfere in the affairs of Shen Yilan and her sisters.

"Look over there, that’s the Green Sepal Plum." After turning a corner, Shen Yilan pointed ahead to the left and said, "There are probably seven or eight of them, initially there were two, and later grandfather transplanted a few more here... Our Plum Blossom Cake is made with petals from these flowers..."

"Truly beautiful," Yang Ruxin praised sincerely. When spring arrives, she also planned to plant all kinds of fruit trees and flowers around her small building, so she could sit on the second-floor balcony to drink tea and enjoy the flowers. Ah, she definitely needed to plant some plum trees so that it wouldn’t be bleak in the winter.

Just at that moment, a young servant girl rushed over: "Second Miss, madam is looking for you..."

"Didn’t you say I was out admiring the plums with Xinxin?" Shen Yilan frowned.

"Madam said that the other young ladies have finished their poetry and asked for Second Miss to also go learn," the young servant girl replied respectfully.

Shen Yilan glanced at Yang Ruxin.

"You go ahead," Yang Ruxin said with a smile, "I’ll just look around a little more and then head back the way I came."

"Alright then," Shen Yilan nodded, "I’ll have Xiaomei stay with you then; just tell her if you need anything..."

Yang Ruxin glanced at the servant girl named Xiaomei and nodded slightly: "Then I’ll be in your debt."

"Miss Yang honors me too much," Xiaomei quickly responded with a respectful bow, "Just give me your orders."

Yang Ruxin nodded.

After Shen Yilan gave a few more instructions to Xiaomei, she hurried off, but after turning the corner, she stopped, looked back at Yang Ruxin’s retreating figure, and a flash of fierceness crossed her eyes.

The girl named Xiaomei was even more familiar with the Plum Garden, explaining it with more detail than Shen Yilan.

"You seem to know quite a lot," Yang Ruxin glanced at Xiaomei.

"To Miss Yang, I am just the sweeper of the Plum Garden. I face these plum trees every day, naturally, I know a bit more..." Xiaomei said with a shy smile, "Over there, there are a few Golden Coin Green Sepal Plums, but those only bloom after the New Year; their buds are still small now..."

"What’s that?" Yang Ruxin turned her head when she suddenly noticed something reflecting light.

"Over there is a Glazed House; it shelters some cold-sensitive species..." Xiaomei lifted her eyes to Yang Ruxin, "Would Miss Yang like to go have a look?"

Yang Ruxin nodded.

The glass house was not small, with a half-meter high stone wall at the base and glass panels more than a meter high above it. The roof was also fitted with glass, and inside there was a row of potted plum blossoms, next to which was a small bamboo house.

Yang Ruxin stepped into the glass house and immediately felt much warmer. The rich scent of the flowers was nearly intoxicating, even giving a slightly drowsy and thirst-inducing sensation.

"Miss Yang, would you like to go inside and have a cup of tea?" Xiaomei asked for Yang Ruxin’s opinion.

Yang Ruxin nodded and followed her into the small bamboo house. The furnishings inside were simple, with a bamboo couch and a low bamboo table, beside which were four cushions.

Though there was no one there, the small stove beside them was lit, with a kettle already bubbling away on top.

"Miss Yang, please have a seat, I’ll make the tea for you," Xiaomei said, as she picked up the tea caddy from the table and skillfully scooped tea leaves into the teapot, then poured in water.
