Chapter 909: Chapter 909: The Black Coffin (1)
The main tomb chamber was large and tall, with four large fire basins at each corner. They lit automatically when the door opened, so now the chamber was very bright.
It had a domed ceiling, and beneath it stood a circular stone platform about half a meter tall. On the platform, nine coffins were arranged in a circle, and inside that circle was a taller pedestal on which rested a watermelon-sized stone sphere with patterns on it—though the patterns were unclear from a distance.
All nine coffins looked uniformly dark and somber.
However, at the edge of the stone platform lay two piles of white bones, clearly indicating that others had entered this place before, but for whatever reason, they had still met their end here.
"Should we go in and take a look?" Yang Ruxin asked Gu Qingheng, her voice filled with excitement.
"Okay," Gu Qingheng nodded.
Before they had a chance to approach, Xiaolun seemed excited and darted out quickly.
"There’s something extremely poisonous over there," Yang Ruxin hurriedly stopped in her tracks.
Xiaolun didn’t linger on the coffins, instead rushing towards the stone sphere. But before it could reach it, the sphere suddenly cracked with a loud snap, and in an instant, a white light flashed out, striking at Xiaolun like lightning.
Xiaolun was faster, dodging the attack and beginning to counterattack.
Both creatures relied on speed, and in no time, the tomb chamber was filled with alternating flashes of green and white light, too fast for the naked eye to catch the specifics.
"Sister Xin, what is that?" Lin Xiwang felt that the past few days had brought more experiences than his entire life, and it was all too thrilling.
"It’s a silver snake," Yang Ruxin let out a breath of relief and broke into a cold sweat. If they had just walked in earlier, they might have died too. Thankfully, Xiaolun was there—it’s no wonder so many people had died without even touching the coffins.
"Can Xiaolun win?"
Just as Lin Xiwang asked, the two fighters had already disengaged. Xiaolun was coiled proudly on top of a coffin, while the little silver snake, though not dead, was injured. It now lay prostrate before Xiaolun, appearing to be submitting.
"Good job, Xiaolun," Yang Ruxin genuinely praised it but was puzzled that it hadn’t finished off the little silver snake and had spared its life.
Xiaolun proudly flicked its tongue in response.
This little silver snake guarded the nine coffins, and now defeated, it coiled motionless by their side while Yang Ruxin and Gu Qingheng opened the coffins. However, it occasionally raised its head as though watching Xiaolun’s whereabouts.
But Xiaolun, now coiled on Yang Ruxin’s wrist, paid it no attention.
After opening the first coffin, all three were stunned—there were no bodies or mummies inside, only... gold, specifically gold ingots, the ten-tael kind.
Gu Qingheng’s expression darkened, and he hurried to open another coffin. When all nine were uncovered, the trio was dumbfounded—all contained either gold or silver, and then there were jewels, jade, jadeite.
"I feel like this isn’t even an ancient tomb," Yang Ruxin swallowed hard, "it’s more like someone’s treasury."
"These are Official Silver," Gu Qingheng said, picking up a Gold Ingot and flipping it over to show her the bottom.
