Chapter 1223: Chapter 1223: The Underground Pharmacy
After searching for a while, they hadn’t found a switch, which left them feeling a bit deflated. Without a switch, there was no way to get in.
"Could it be that this trip tonight was in vain?" Yang Ruxin furrowed her brows, unable to refrain from kicking the counter in frustration.
Before she could even cry out from the pain in her foot, she heard a rumbling sound. To her surprise, the counter moved forward about a meter in distance, and right beside Yang Ruxin’s foot, near the wall, a dark hole appeared. Looking down from above, there was even a staircase extending downward.
"Holy crap!" Yang Ruxin couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration, "This design..." Even if they opened the hole during the day, the patients coming in from outside wouldn’t notice anything unusual about the counter unless they ran inside or climbed on top of it to look inside, but with the counter being so high, most people wouldn’t be able to lean over it.
Yang Ruxin instructed Du Man and Du Juan to wait outside, warning them to hide themselves in case of any trouble. It would be the best help if they remained undiscovered, and they shouldn’t rashly enter the tunnel in case it was poisoned, which would be problematic.
Although the two girls hadn’t been with Yang Ruxin for long, they knew well enough that when the young mistress said something, it had to be followed to the letter, otherwise they might be a liability.
Their young mistress was indeed extraordinarily fierce.
Once in the tunnel, they didn’t light any lamps outside, but inside, they brought out a homemade torch and lit it up.
The staircase wasn’t long, and there wasn’t a tunnel leading off it. Once they descended, they found themselves in an almost thousand-square-meter underground storage. To say it was a medical storeroom wasn’t an exaggeration at all because it was full of bags of medical herbs, each labeled.
Yang Ruxin frowned, scanning the area and noticing that most of the stored herbs were mainly for treating bruises and external hemorrhage, like notoginseng, of which there were more than a hundred bags—each weighing fifty pounds. The sheer quantity was truly frightening.
A small pharmacy storing so much notoginseng, along with considerable amounts of safflower, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, and Corydalis, was definitely not normal. These were the types of herbs that the military would need the most when warfare was underway.
Warfare? A thought flashed through Yang Ruxin’s mind. Could this be preparation for some military force? She couldn’t help but take a sharp breath; this was no small matter.
However, this was not the time for wild speculation. Having found the storeroom, she naturally wasn’t going to leave anything behind for the others. With a sweep of her hand, she transferred all the herbs in the storeroom into her space.
Just as she was preparing to leave, a flurry of messy footsteps came from outside, clearly not Du Man’s or Du Juan’s. Obviously, someone had come in.
"How was this storeroom opened?" someone exclaimed in surprise from outside.
"Hurry and go down to check," another person said, leading the charge down the stairs.
Yang Ruxin sat in her space, munching on a pear while watching the scene unfold. About a dozen men in black stormed in, some even carrying poles, clearly intending to transport the stored herbs. She couldn’t help but smile a little; sister had already taken care of it for them—a surprise, right?
"This..." The black-clothed man who ran down first stared at the empty, pitch-black storeroom, unsure how to react.
The people who followed might have thought they were seeing things, hastily lighting their Fire Starters, but all that appeared were the bare walls.
Yang Ruxin had finished a pear by this time. She placed the pear core on the ground and then started on her second one.
