Chapter 941: Chapter 941: How Could They Be So Ruthless?
Tobias Singleton was a man who understood the times.
On the day he met Benson Bernard, he surrendered without resistance; later, when he met Carson Flores, he treated him with complete respect, feeling no shame at being commanded by a Golden Core as a Divinity Transformation practitioner.
He still addressed him as Mr. Flores, but now, this same address was laden with much more respect.
After the battle with the Crimson Dragon King, the scene was horrific. Three Hollow Void powerhouses died, none of their Primordial Spirits escaped, and one of the Divinity Transformation elders guarding Samantha Tate was crushed with a slap.
In such a perilous situation, Carson Flores was able to escape with Samantha Tate alive.
This was not something just anyone could accomplish; at least, he, Tobias Singleton, could not.
Four people left Nutwood and headed straight for Hollow Void City.
Three days later, Carson Flores and his companions arrived at Hollow Void City.
Hollow Void City was by no means small, with a permanent population of four hundred thousand, but now the entire city had turned into a ghost town devoid of people.
Thousand Swords Sect Elder, Tristan Acedvedo, was the first to reach the site. He was the City Lord of a neighboring city of Sword Qi.
Tristan Acedvedo greeted them, "Sect Master!"
Molly Greer briefly introduced both parties, then said, "Discuss the situation."
Tristan Acedvedo began in a grave tone, "I entered the city to inspect it carefully. A row of houses in the City Lord’s Mansion had collapsed, and nearby, I found the skeletal remains of Elder Jackson, like the others, completely devoid of flesh and blood."
Carson Flores frowned, "A row of houses has collapsed?"
Tristan Acedvedo replied, "Yes, Jackson Roth was different from others. He wasn’t killed under the Ten Thousand Spirits Blood Array but was killed by a person first, and then his flesh and blood were absorbed by the array."
Molly Greer asked gravely, "The city has Spirit Light Arrays and Barriers. Even with the Ten Thousand Spirits Blood Array, with the Barrier intact, it couldn’t have possibly massacred four hundred thousand citizens. Did someone enter the city first, kill Elder Jackson, and shut down the Barrier?"
"Yes,"
Tristan Acedvedo answered, "There were signs of a fight in the City Lord’s Mansion, but only one row of houses collapsed. It was likely caused by a single attack, possibly as Elder Jackson counterattacked."
"The opponent either had overwhelming strength for a quick kill of Elder Jackson or caught Elder Jackson by surprise with a stealth attack, and he was immediately slain in a moment of unpreparedness."
"After killing Elder Jackson, the perpetrator killed the guards of the City Lord’s Mansion and others. I also inspected all the Spirit Light Array management locations, and many of the Arrays had been attacked."
"This was an organized and premeditated act. The assailant entered the city, killed the City Lord, attacked the Spirit Light Arrays, prevented the Spirit Light Arrays from activating, and then the Ten Thousand Spirits Blood Array was initiated, turning four hundred thousand citizens into blood water."
Carson Flores’s face was solemn. Half a year earlier, he and his master had discussed Cultivators’ views on the lives of ordinary people. He hadn’t expected that at this moment, the extreme evil of human nature would be displayed right before his eyes.
Four hundred thousand lives, instantly turned into blood water, and finally into a Myriad Spirit Blood Pearl.
Carson Flores, from the Mortal Realm, knew that although there were divides of poverty and respect for the strong there, ordinary human lives were largely protected to a great extent, and they weren’t slaughtered indiscriminately like pigs and dogs.
Even in battles between Cultivator families, they usually only eradicated the Cultivators, severing the way of Cultivation for the opponent, sending them back to the mundane world without the power to return, but not so far as to exterminate their entire lineage."
Carson Flores, this expert in exterminating Cultivator families, had traveled quite a distance and had wiped out many cultivator’s families, but had not killed many people.
Yet, right before his eyes, an entire city, four hundred thousand people, turned into blood water.
All just for one Myriad Spirit Blood Pearl that could enhance someone’s strength!
Are these even human?
These are hell-spawned, man-eating Evil Ghosts!
Molly Greer said gravely, "See for yourself."
Carson Flores was silent and speechless, following the others into the city.
Streets bustling with crowds, shops busy with patrons, children playing in open spaces...
These bones filled the entire city, all signs of life in the city were just as usual, save for the disaster that suddenly struck from the sky, killed all the people, and drained their flesh and blood.
Carson Flores’s heart felt constricted, as if an invisible blade was pressing against it, causing his heart to ache faintly and making it hard for him to breathe.
Killian Jaramillo covered his face with both hands, tears silently flowing.
"So many vibrant lives, who are they, how could someone be so heartless?"
Molly Greer said gravely, "Those proficient in the Path of Refinement were known as part of the Evil Sect in ancient times. In their view, everything under the heavens can be killed and refined. Extremists even refine their own relatives, as the same bloodline makes absorption easier..."
Carson Flores asked, "Such a large city, didn’t anyone survive, all those with Nascent Soul and above, did not even one Nascent Soul manage to escape?"
Tristan Acedvedo shook his head, "Under the Ten Thousand Spirits Blood Array, everything can be refined, whether it’s Golden Core or Nascent Soul, even the Primordial Spirits, they can all be refined into pure Spiritual Energy."
The group arrived at the City Lord’s Mansion and landed in a spacious courtyard.
Tristan Acedvedo pointed to a skeleton on the ground, "This is Elder Jackson. I haven’t disturbed anything here."
Carson Flores looked down at the skeleton dressed in luxurious clothes.
His gaze fell on it, and suddenly, he paused.
