Chapter 717: Chapter 717 Never Give Up Until You’re at the End of the Road_1
When Carson Flores returned to the City Lord’s Mansion, the city’s Spirit Light Formations had already activated, and pillars of white light rose to the sky. The entire heavens were completely enveloped in a white Aura Barrier, an incredibly magnificent sight to behold.
After dinner, Carson saw the returned Hector Tate and immediately asked, "How did it go? What was the result?"
Hector Tate’s face was grim, with a hint of anger in his eyes. "These people refuse to lend a hand. They say they’ve already paid their taxes and can’t manage any further; they’re full of excuses."
Carson was not the slightest bit surprised; he had expected this outcome ever since Hector mentioned borrowing money from the merchants.
Since ancient times, how many natural and man-made disasters have there been, and how many similar scenes have occurred? How many people are willing to put forth their money?
Carson comforted him. "Don’t be angry. Actually, they aren’t wrong. They’ve paid their taxes, and defending the city isn’t their duty. Besides, to them, it makes little difference whether we from the City Lord’s Mansion or the Holy Fire Sect live here."
"If they offer Spirit Stones to help defend the city today and the city is saved, then all is well. But if it falls and the Holy Fire Sect enters the city, seeking to hold those who assisted financially responsible, won’t they be in big trouble?"
Hector Tate was taken aback, seemingly wanting to say something but ultimately just sighed in dejection. "That’s true. They’re just doing business to earn Spirit Stones, and they don’t care who the City Lord is."
Carson laughed. "So don’t take their response to heart. Exactly how many Spirit Stones do we have now?"
Hector Tate answered, "Six million. It may seem like a lot, but when it comes to defending the city, it won’t last long."
Carson comforted him, "Don’t worry, I made a fortune today. I’m having Dakota Randolph help me exchange the Spirit Stone Card into Spirit Stones. We should have about fifteen to twenty million. That should tide us over for now."
Hector Tate looked at Carson in shock. "So many Spirit Stones, how did you earn them? Did you rob someone?"
Carson laughed, "Something like that. The Skyrobber Aurora Society robbed a Randolph Family caravan and took hostages for ransom. I went with Dakota Randolph to pay the ransom, but they reneged and tried to abduct Dakota. So I killed almost all of them, and naturally, their goods became my spoils of war."
Hector Tate’s eyes widened, and for a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
Carson Flores killed off the Skyrobber Aurora Society by himself?
How did he manage that?
Wasn’t he just at the Golden Core Realm?
The Aurora Society might have many at the Golden Core Realm and even some at the Nascent Soul stage.
Carson changed the subject. "Does the Jaramillo Family have business in White Wave City, the same Jaramillo Family of Killian?"
"No."
Hector Tate replied, "The Jaramillo Family has shops in every city controlled by the Thousand Swords Sect, with the nearest one about a day’s journey from here."
Carson thought for a moment, "Alright, I’ll write two letters. Have someone deliver one to the Thousand Swords Peak, either to Killian Jaramillo, Branson Jaramillo, or whoever is in charge of the Jaramillo Family. The other letter, send it to the nearest city controlled by the Thousand Swords Sect and give it to their person in charge."
Hector Tate stared at Carson excitedly, "Junior Brother, do you have a connection with the Thousand Swords Sect?"
Carson shook his head, "I’ve just helped the Jaramillo Family out a bit, I have no relationship with the Thousand Swords Sect. Otherwise, I would have directly sought help from them. Whether it will work, I can’t say, but no matter what, since we’ve decided to hold White Wave City, we should do everything we can. If we give up halfway and fail, won’t all our efforts be wasted?"
Hector Tate immediately became excited, "Alright, you prepare the letters, and I’ll send someone right away."
Carson took out a Jade Slip, wrote two letters, and handed them to Hector Tate. Soon, two Cultivators set off into the night.
The letters from Carson were personal requests for help to the Jaramillo Family.
Simply put, he asked to borrow manpower or Spirit Stones.
If the Jaramillo Family remembered the favor Carson once did for them, and asked a Divinity Transformation Stage expert from the Thousand Swords Sect to step in, then the situation would naturally be resolved.
Carson didn’t believe the Holy Fire Sect would be audacious enough to start a full-scale war with the involvement of the Thousand Swords Sect, considering it was the foremost Sect of Nutwood Mountain and a superpower in the entire Cultivation Realm.
If the Jaramillo Family didn’t want to get involved, Carson would borrow Spirit Stones. With enough Spirit Stones, they could hold out until Delaney Hunter awoke, which would change the entire situation.
Delaney wasn’t severely injured, and she managed to return to White Wave City before collapsing, which indicated that her opponent didn’t have overwhelming strength. Otherwise, they could have simply injured her seriously enough to recover for ten days to a half-month. Would there have been any need for the sneaky method of using poison?
Carson had considered whether it was worth using so many resources to defend this city.
Would it be possible to use these resources to buy materials to speed up Delaney’s cultivation of her Sword Bone, allowing her to ascend to Divinity Transformation sooner, and then retake the city?
But Carson just considered the idea for a moment before discarding it and deciding to fight this battle anyway.
In Cultivation, one seeks to face challenges head-on, to change one’s fate against the odds!
If retreat was chosen in the name of prudence when it was not absolutely necessary, would that mean that in the future, as long as there was any escape, any way short of dead ends, there would always be the choice to yield, to retreat?
No retreat!
Fight!
