Chapter 689: Chapter 689: There Are Two Paths, Choose for Yourself_1
Isabel Reid wore a face full of disappointment as she spoke with heartfelt anguish.
"I have been preoccupied with my cultivation and neglected the discipline of you. I thought that since you were an adult, you should know better. But now, you have harbored such malicious thoughts, harming others as well as yourself..."
Isabel Reid gave a deferential bow toward Carson Flores, her tone apologetic, "Carson, this matter is my daughter’s fault. I will have her apologize to you. Moreover, I will take her back to the Heavenly Constellation Sect for a ten-year contemplative seclusion to thoroughly reflect on her sins. Please grant her a chance to make amends."
Katherine Reid was bewildered by her father’s slap, but after hearing his words, she quickly came to her senses and bowed to Carson to apologize.
"I’m sorry, Carson. I was wrong before, and I will reflect on it. Please forgive me!"
Carson scoffed, putting on an act now?
A self-harming scheme?
Even though he was aware the two were putting on an act, Carson knew that at the moment, he was only using tough words as a bluff. Bringing down Isabel Reid with his own strength still seemed unlikely.
Carson was about to mock Isabel Reid when suddenly Delaney Hunter’s cold voice came from the sky.
"Isabel Reid, you’ve come up with a self-harming scheme, and at your age, don’t you have any shame? Bullying my junior brother and thinking you can just walk away from it—are you dreaming?"
Carson abruptly looked up and saw Delaney Hunter diving from the sky at incredible speed, like a meteor. Her voice still echoed in the air as she appeared before everyone, landing with a thunderous crash, her hair flying, her clothes fluttering, emanating a formidable presence.
Carson was overjoyed.
"Senior sister!"
Delaney turned her head with a smile, "Not bad, junior brother. Your senior sister hasn’t misjudged you!"
Their simple exchange had already confirmed everything Carson had previously said to be true, and everyone’s gaze instantly turned to Isabel Reid and her daughter, their eyes revealing overt anticipation.
A good show was about to begin!
Who didn’t know about Delaney Hunter’s formidable strength and how she never gave face to anyone?
People were already grateful when she didn’t provoke them on a normal day. Now that Isabel Reid had provoked her, wouldn’t he get skinned alive?
Isabel Reid’s face suddenly stiffened.
He turned and gave a strained smile to Delaney, bowing stiffly, "Peak Master Hunter, it’s a misunderstanding, just a misunderstanding..."
Delaney spoke coldly, "If it were only your disciple, your daughter, making trouble for Carson, it would be his own fault for being weak. But as their elder, you’ve used your position to bully others and even tried to seize my junior brother’s magical treasure. With just the word ’misunderstanding,’ do you think you can muddle through this entire matter?"
Isabel Reid naturally knew how difficult and terrifying Delaney was to deal with. At this point, he began to regret why he hadn’t just walked away earlier, which would have spared him this humiliating confrontation with Delaney.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, being called out by Delaney like this, his face was probably going to be utterly lost.
"Peak Master Hunter, you name it. What does it take for this matter to be let bygones be bygones?"
Delaney sneered, "Didn’t you just strike a move against my junior brother? You have two options. First, take a blow from me, your life and death are your own responsibility. If you survive the blow, we let this matter go. Second, you gave my junior brother quite a scare, so compensate him for his emotional distress. It’s your choice."
The bystanders’ eyes lit up, here it comes, here it comes!
The legendary Peak Master Hunter always has her hand out from the coffin for money. Anyone who crosses her can’t avoid being extorted, even the Sect Master of Thousand Swords Sect, Molly Greer, couldn’t escape, and now they were witnessing it firsthand.
But as a Nascent Soul Powerhouse, Isabel Reid only needed to withstand one blow from Delaney, which shouldn’t be too difficult, right?
He should choose this first option.
Isabel Reid’s face turned red, clenching his teeth forcefully as he glared at Delaney.
As an elder in the sect, he knew all too well Delaney’s character. He never imagined that he would one day become the target of her extortion!
"Peak Master Hunter, name your price. I am willing to compensate!"
As soon as Isabel Reid spoke, all the onlookers were dumbfounded.
No way?
Isn’t it just one blow, and then it’s all settled?
Why choose compensation directly?
Isabel Reid could feel everyone’s disbelief and incredulity. Internally, he was crying a river—only a fool would want to compensate!
If I could block it, who would want to compensate? Doesn’t everyone know this woman’s appetite is monstrous?
He couldn’t defeat her!
He couldn’t even withstand one blow!
He was at the Nascent Soul Late Stage, and Delaney was at Nascent Soul Great Perfection. Their realms were inherently different, not to mention Delaney’s terrifying Three-foot Sword Veil.
Even the Sect Master at the Divinity Transformation Stage had no answer to Delaney, let alone himself.
One blow?
It sounds simple, but Delaney’s words "your life and death are your own responsibility" deeply frightened Isabel Reid. If he really went to take that blow, he might end up dead!
Even if Delaney had reservations and ultimately didn’t kill him, using him as a warning to others by inflicting a severe injury that might leave him bedridden for a decade or so, this was all too feasible!
Compensation may hurt, but after all, these were just material possessions. One could always make more trips to the Secret Realm to recover the losses.
Delaney smiled slightly, revealing her white teeth, "Compensation, is it? Very well, you’ve made a wise choice..."
