Chapter 608: Chapter 608: The Water-Fire Mirror Is in the Fish’s Belly?_1
As soon as Emilio Compton finished speaking, Nikolai Jimenez and Elise Parry also announced similar bounties, afraid of falling behind.
Under the promise of a hefty reward, all the cultivators present went mad.
Immortality!
Everyone knew that entering the Blessed Land of Cave Heavens could only mean a certain increase in lifespan, but if one couldn’t join a sect and receive cultivation techniques, then they would still be at the very bottom. However, joining a sect would change everything!
To become a cultivator and obtain a lengthy life was to step onto the path of immortality!
All returned to their positions and began frantically breaking the ice.
The entire lake had been reduced to the last piece that wasn’t particularly large; whoever dug more increased their chances of finding the Water-Fire Mirror.
All the teams progressed side by side, full of vigor.
As he was digging, Carson Flores noticed that to his right was the Hoffman Family Patriarch, Seth Hoffman, who was breaking the ice with all his might, displaying great enthusiasm.
After half a day of digging and the lake getting smaller, as dusk approached, Seth Hoffman suddenly exclaimed in a low voice, "There’s something in the ice!"
Everyone’s eyes simultaneously focused on the block of ice, which contained a sizable dark shadow, seemingly located in the middle layer of water.
"Could it be a fish?"
"If it’s a fish, it must be seven or eight meters long; that’s way too big."
"There’s treasure here, and if anything strange happens, it wouldn’t be too surprising."
As surprised as the bystanders were, they didn’t make much of a fuss, knowing that the Water-Fire Mirror they were looking for appeared to be a bronze double-sided mirror with a diameter of about thirty centimeters. It was likely on the lakebed or submerged within the silt, thus unlikely to be floating in the water, nor could it be this large dark shadow that was clearly seven or eight meters in size.
With a punch from Seth Hoffman, the icy peak shattered, and the enormous dark shadow fell out in front of everyone.
"It really is a fish!"
"Such a huge fish!"
"This fish must be seven or eight meters long, how many years would it take to grow so big?"
"It’s nearly become a spirit, hasn’t it?"
"How about we stew it for dinner tonight?"
The crowd was abuzz with comments, and Carson Flores watched the commotion from the side. Yet as he watched, a realization struck him, and he suddenly remembered something.
The lake froze over every year for half a year; wouldn’t all the fish, shrimp, and crabs freeze to death?
Every September, the ice melts, the lake is restored, and everything comes back to life while the fish start growing anew until the next freeze in March, giving them only half a year.
Could a fish grow this large in half a year?
The Water-Fire Mirror!
That was the only explanation.
Carson Flores subconsciously sensed the spiritual energy around him, and his pupils contracted sharply!
Ever since the fish appeared, it was like a radiation source, emitting spiritual energy crazily all over its body, especially from its wide mouth, which was spouting spiritual energy like a whale spouting water.
No matter how much spiritual energy a fish absorbs and how much it grows, it would be integrated within its body. It wouldn’t be like an engine of spiritual energy, continuously spewing it out. Thus, there was only one explanation left!
There was something inside the fish!
It wasn’t the fish that was spewing spiritual energy crazily, but something inside its stomach!
The reason this fish could grow so large in half a year was because of the object inside it.
Carson Flores’s heart pounded intensely. Although he wasn’t yet sure what was inside the fish’s stomach, it was highly likely to be the Water-Fire Mirror everyone was looking for!
The Water-Fire Mirror had been swallowed by the fish!
In an instant, Carson Flores understood many things, like why everyone was digging here while the people from the three Blessed Lands of Cave Heavens stood on the hill watching, not observing closely. They were certain that once the Water-Fire Mirror appeared, a massive surge of spiritual energy would cause a phenomenon that they would naturally see.
Now, however, the Water-Fire Mirror was inside this large fish’s belly. The body of the fish was blocking the surge of spiritual energy. Although the fish’s mouth was spouting spiritual energy, the ice layer was greatly shattered, and a lot of spiritual energy was drifting out as well, so for the moment, it didn’t seem too alarming. But wait a little longer, and it would probably catch their attention.
Carson Flores focused intently on sensing the spiritual energy, and in a blink of an eye, he locked onto the source.
Should he make a move?
Carson Flores hesitated for only a moment before making his decision.
If Heaven had delivered the Water-Fire Mirror right in front of him and he didn’t take it, wouldn’t that be ungrateful for this heaven-sent opportunity?
What’s more, it was Seth Hoffman who had unearthed the Water-Fire Mirror!
If he didn’t take the Mirror now, it would inevitably be discovered later, and the Hoffman Family among others would be absorbed into the Eastern Peak Sanctuary of the Sacred Mountain; that would be really bad news for him.
He was a mortal enemy of the Hoffman Family!
Currently in disguise, as long as he took the Water-Fire Mirror without anyone realizing, who would know it was him?
Even if they did find out, now at the Innate Great Grandmaster Peak, what did he have to fear?
Worst comes to worst, he could just run away!
Carson Flores planned his next move and slowly squeezed into the crowd of onlookers, positioning himself at the middle of the fish’s body.
"This fish is so big, if we made sashimi, how many people could eat..."
While pretending to say this, Carson Flores made a gesture as if he wanted to touch the fish’s body. But then his foot stumbled heavily, "Damn it!"
Carson Flores’s body plunged directly onto the fish, and his right hand seemed to reach out hastily but was actually like a sharp knife, as his entire right arm thrust into the fish’s body with a swift motion.
