Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Is This... A Confession?_1
Panic?
What’s there to panic about?
Carson felt that his young aunt was too blunt and aggressive in her speech. It wouldn’t have been as bad if she were older, but since she was only a few years older than him, it made him extremely embarrassed, like a pubescent boy caught by his sister secretly washing his pants in the middle of the night.
"No need, no need, I’m not panicking," he said.
His overpowering martial prowess was utterly useless at that moment, leaving him no choice but to escape in embarrassment.
Seeing Carson’s retreating back, Leah Frost laughed.
"Quite shy, aren’t you? Looks like we need to find you a girl who’s a bit more outgoing; otherwise, this progress bar is never going to move forward."
"Hmm, which family’s daughter would be suitable? Not those enchanting friends of mine, they’re the type who’d eat a man without spitting out the bones."
"Just don’t know what type of girl this kid likes. Demure, flirtatious?"
Carson fled back to his room and lay helplessly on the bed.
It was too terrifying.
Living under the same roof as such an aunt, he’d be doomed sooner or later!
He needed to find some reason to move out.
A girlfriend?
That was a good excuse.
A woman like Samantha Tate, not many elders would dislike her, right?
Having thought this, Carson made up his mind: he’d stay for a few more days, look for the right moment to reveal his relationship, and then he could move out with complete justification.
The elders couldn’t possibly obstruct his romance or pursuit of happiness, could they?
That’s decided then!
The next day, Carson loitered around the house until the evening when he drove out to pick up Samantha Tate, and then they headed to Xijing University.
"Cousin, cousin-in-law! Over here!"
Lillian Frost waved enthusiastically, then ran over to meet them.
Today, Lillian was made up for her performance: she wore a pink coat, a tight skirt, black pantyhose, and combat boots, making her look like the quintessential tall, dark-haired, leggy campus belle.
"It’s about to start, I’ll take you inside," she said.
"Sure!" they agreed.
Lillian led them into the small auditorium, which was already filled with students, buzzing with excitement.
Carson asked casually, "What are you performing?"
Lillian replied with a smile, "A piano solo."
Carson laughed, "Ah, how refined. This country bumpkin with no ear for music is going to be totally lost."
Lillian, laughing, retorted, "I’ll play blindly, and you can just listen blindly!"
After sitting down with the couple, the performances started quickly. After about seven or eight acts, Lillian stood up, "It’s almost time for my act; I need to go backstage and wait."
"Good luck!"
After Lillian left, Samantha held up the bouquet of flowers in her hands, "Are you going to present these, or shall I?"
Carson laughed, "You give them. If I go up there, my classmates might get the wrong idea."
Samantha smiled with pursed lips, "Okay!"
Shortly after, it was Lillian’s turn to perform her piano solo. Under the spotlight, she took off her pink coat, revealing her tight black skirt, looking slender and beautiful.
Samantha praised, "She’s so pretty; she must be quite popular at school. Even if she’s not the campus belle, she’s definitely the beauty of her department. There must be a lot of people chasing her!"
Carson responded, "My girlfriend is prettier."
Samantha turned and lightly jabbed him with her elbow, "You’re just good at sweet talking!"
Carson protested quietly, "That wasn’t sweet talk, that was the truth, okay?"
Samantha pouted slightly, but her expression couldn’t hide her delight.
The piano music began, and both stopped bickering to listen attentively.
Carson really didn’t know much about music; all he knew was that it sounded good, and under the spotlight, Lillian’s every move was filled with youthful and elegant charm.
As the piano music ended, thunderous applause filled the room.
Just as Samantha was about to stand up and go on stage with the flowers, a tall young man in a suit wearing a bow tie suddenly appeared in front of the stage. He carried a large bunch of fiery red roses and walked step by step onto the stage.
With his appearance, the entire auditorium erupted with the excited shouts of the students. Who among them didn’t love such a scene in their youth?
Samantha stopped in her tracks, "Is this... a confession?"
Carson chuckled, "Let’s watch and see."
Standing up from the piano stool, Lillian, under the spotlight, couldn’t see the audience below, but she knew that Carson and Samantha were watching her.
She smiled and waved at the audience below, ready to bow and end her performance when she saw the young man who had already ascended the stage; her face showed a slight change.
The tall young man knelt on one knee in front of Lillian and held up the bouquet of roses.
"Lillian, from the first moment I saw you, I fell in love with you. It’s been three years and two months. Please be my girlfriend."
The students, loving chaos, shouted encouragement from below.
"Say yes to him!"
"Say yes to him!"
Lillian’s face showed a hint of embarrassment. She naturally knew this young man quite well—he was Layne Reid, a member of the Reid Family, with his father, Lennon Reid, being one of the core members with real power.
Layne had pursued her for more than a day or two, partly because of her beauty and partly because of her Frost family status. Lillian, however, felt nothing for him and had always rejected him.
Never in her wildest dreams had she expected Layne to pull this move today!
He was putting her on the spot!
