Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Feeling So Relieved and Secure_1
Although Samantha Tate was singing, her heart was pounding nonstop.
Camille Rhodes, like a languid cat, leaned on Carson Flores, whispering intimately in his ear, with a familiarity that made Samantha slightly embarrassed, yet enviously longing.
Camille could be so open and affectionate with Carson partly because of her easygoing nature, but mostly because they had broken through a certain barrier in their relationship.
For men and women, whether they’ve slept together can make a world of difference.
While envying them, Samantha couldn’t help but wonder if she and Carson could take their relationship further.
Harboring such delicate and complex emotions, Samantha got drunk.
Camille gave Samantha’s cheek a pinch, eliciting a silly mumble from her, though it was unclear what she was muttering.
"How did you get drunk so quickly? Seems like you have something on your mind."
Camille smiled mischievously, hung onto Carson’s neck, and leaned in closer.
Carson felt a bit anxious; Samantha was still there.
Camille gave a light peck and got up with a giggle, "I’m off. Remember, you don’t wait for happiness; you fight for it—be assertive, man!"
Carson watched Camille walk toward the door, "You’re just leaving like this?"
Camille made a surprised face, "If I don’t leave, should I stay? Are you expecting us both to keep you company?"
Carson was speechless; this woman’s words left him at a loss for a response!
Seeing Carson’s expression, Camille laughed and said, "I’m just teasing you. A person should know their own limits. I wouldn’t stay and be an annoyance. But, if you can’t handle little Samantha and feel overwhelmed, you can come to me. You know where I live."
Camille left lightly, and Carson looked at Samantha lying on the couch. He reached out to tidy the messy strands of hair on her forehead, then helped her stand, placing her hands on his shoulders, before picking her up in his arms.
"Hold onto my neck, don’t fall off."
Samantha, dazed, clung onto Carson’s neck and lay on his shoulder, falling asleep contentedly.
By the time Carson brought Samantha back to the hotel, she was completely out of it. After turning over in bed, she continued sleeping.
Carson had thought about leaving, but worried that Samantha might have an accident since she was drunk, he hesitated and decided to stay.
When Carson woke up, Samantha was lying in his arms, staring at him with open eyes.
"How long have you been awake?"
Samantha pursed her lips, her gaze flitting away, but her expression was one of delight.
She and Carson were in the same bed!
They had spent the night in each other’s arms!
Though nothing inappropriate had happened, it must be said that lying in Carson’s arms felt incredibly reassuring and safe.
Samantha lifted her face, gave a light peck, then buried her face in Carson’s chest.
"Just woke up."
Carson smiled, "Go wash up and clear your head, you smell of alcohol. Last night, I carried you back here and you were sleeping like a piglet, I didn’t want to disturb you."
"Okay!"
Samantha, aware of her strong scent of liquor, got out of bed embarrassed and headed for the bathroom; soon, the sound of water could be heard.
Carson lay in bed, his thoughts drifting with the sound of running water. The memories of getting to know Samantha played in his mind like a movie, making his heart tender.
Should he try to take that step?
Camille’s words echoed in Carson’s head.
Happiness must be fought for.
A man should be assertive.
Yes, indeed, as a man, he should make the first move.
The weather seemed nice today, a bright and sunny morning. If it marked the start of a relationship, it surely must be wonderful.
That settled it!
The water stopped, and shortly after, Samantha came out wrapped in a towel from the shower, wearing a bathrobe. Her pale, bare legs in slippers were tempting.
She was the very image of a goddess emerging from the water!
Carson felt that speaking at this moment would only spoil the courage he had just built up, so he said nothing and simply got up, walked over, and embraced Samantha.
Samantha’s body radiated the fresh scent of shower gel, which was very pleasant.
Samantha’s face instantly flushed red, and for a moment, she was a tangle of nerves, stiffly being held by Carson, her mind blank.
She saw the intense look in Carson’s eyes and knew what he intended to do.
She had been looking forward to this day, but now that it was really happening, she felt completely at a loss, unsure of how to react.
When the warm touch of her skin met his cool hand, she finally snapped back to reality.
