Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Pretending, don’t you know?_1
Thinking of this, Kylie Martinez felt a bit annoyed inside, a kind of annoyance stemming from being compared.
Her status was on par with Camille Rhodes, as was her beauty. The two of them were like needles to a magnet, competing and comparing in everything. Bringing Wayne Singleton on her arm, while Camille Rhodes brought Carson Flores, naturally gave rise to a sense of comparison in her heart.
In front of Camille Rhodes, Carson Flores was neither servile nor overbearing, highly skilled, and even Raiden Mason was no match for him. At first glance, he didn’t seem like much, but once you interacted with him, you’d be unconsciously attracted by his demeanor.
Confident, gentle, neither servile nor overbearing, his face always carried a calm and self-assurance, and he was like a magnet. If you got close to him, you’d be attracted whether you wanted to or not.
Would Camille Rhodes feel the same way?
The Camille Rhodes she knew wouldn’t easily pat a man on the back or say intimate words like "I got your back." Yet, there it was happening right before her eyes.
A bit of resentment surged in Kylie Martinez’s heart, making her hope that Wayne Singleton would win against Carson Flores. By doing this, she could dispel such feelings and tell herself he was nothing special, and also outshine Camille Rhodes once more.
"Carson Flores, let me remind you, in underground racing, you bear the consequences, including life and death. You understand that, right?"
Carson Flores nodded, "Okay, let’s start."
Kylie Martinez smirked, "Wait, everyone who races on this track needs to join the betting pool, place bets for the crowd, whether or not someone bets on you, it’s the rule."
Carson Flores chuckled, "Is that so? Well, I’m just a no-name rookie. Let’s see what odds you’ll give me."
Kylie Martinez signaled to someone beside her, and the image on the large screen suddenly changed, still splitting equally between the left and the right.
Carson Flores had expected simple profiles of himself and Wayne Singleton to be put up, but when he looked up, he couldn’t help but laugh.
"You guys and your business brains, you’d make money no matter what."
On the big screen, the left side showed Kylie Martinez’s photo, and the right side showed Camille Rhodes’s photo. Both of them were as glamorous as flowers, eye-catching.
Next to the portraits of both women, there was a smaller half-length photo. On the left was Wayne Singleton, with a black unknown photo and a large question mark next to it.
The odds were displayed below, with Kylie Martinez’s side at 1:1.3, and Camille Rhodes’s at 1:2.
The bookmakers clearly favored Wayne Singleton, after all, he was a well-known racer, and since Carson Flores was here for the first time and hadn’t even raced on this track, no one would believe he could win.
This wasn’t about the competition between Carson Flores and Wayne Singleton, this was clearly a contest of beauties!
It seemed like business as usual for everyone, just two beautiful women picking a racer to represent them in a competition, waiting to see whom the crowd believed would win.
The Martinez family owned the racetrack, and they had the advantage of innate popularity. Moreover, Wayne Singleton was a local expert known to all, so for a time, many people rushed to place their bets, mostly on Wayne Singleton.
Carson Flores touched his nose, "Since I’m racing, can I bet on myself?"
Kylie Martinez laughed, "Yes, racers are allowed to bet on their victory, of course, that’s the only bet you can make. After all, winning isn’t easy, losing is, and racers have to be responsible for their patrons."
Camille Rhodes smiled, "You’re placing a bet?"
Carson Flores casually took out his wallet, handed a card to Camille Rhodes, "I don’t bet on others, but betting on myself is okay. It’s all about controlling your own destiny, right? The PIN is six eights, bet all the money in there on me winning."
Camille Rhodes gave the card to someone by Kylie Martinez’s side to place the bet, then asked, "How much money is in there?"
Carson Flores shook his head, "I don’t know."
Camille Rhodes was startled, "Your own card, and you don’t know how much is on it? You must have an idea, right?"
Carson Flores smiled, "It was given to me by someone else. I have no idea how much is on it, and I’ve never used it."
This card was given to Carson Flores by Remy Johnston before, as a thank-you gift on behalf of Zara Stein. Carson Flores accepted it, but had never used it and truly didn’t know how much money it contained.
The person processing the transaction returned quickly, with a slightly expressive look, handing a betting voucher to Kylie Martinez.
Kylie Martinez glanced at it, her eyes widening slightly, and when she looked at Carson Flores again, her gaze held a subtle change.
"Carson Flores, you really keep a low profile, eh? Just pulling out a card with ten million on it. I’m really curious, who would give you a card with ten million, and you don’t even know the amount..."
Camille Rhodes took the voucher from Kylie Martinez’s hands, looked at it, and sweetly smiled, "I didn’t expect you, the little security guard, to be so wealthy."
Camille Rhodes knew about his relationship with Shirley Miller and subconsciously thought the card was from Shirley Miller. Carson Flores, being proud, had never used the money on the card and didn’t know the amount.
Understanding Camille Rhodes’s expression, Carson Flores knew she had misunderstood. With Kylie Martinez inquiring about it as well, he simply explained, "Remy Johnston gave it to me."
Both Camille Rhodes and Kylie Martinez were stunned, their gazes filled with surprise as they looked at Carson Flores.
"Remy Johnston?"
"The Remy Johnston from the Johnston family?"
