Chapter 219: Chapter 219 This Made Me Feel Better_1
Carson Flores naturally wouldn’t follow the woman in the black dress.
Her bodyguard was very strong; although they only had a brief skirmish without a fight to the death, Carson estimated that this guy was only a step away from entering the Gang Qi Realm.
A woman with such a powerful bodyguard must be of significant status, and such women invariably spelled trouble.
The woman in the black dress was indeed very beautiful, a real woman among women. Carson had been with many women, but not one compared to the woman in the black dress.
Every rose has its thorns.
If this had been before he came to Polgel, Carson would have definitely gone with her.
What’s there to fear, thorns or not? It’s not as if I’d be scared of getting my kidneys gouged out, right?
As for trouble?
Worst comes to worst, just sleep with her and hit the road.
But now was different; Carson had to deal with the Miller Family in Seashore, and he had Shirley Miller and Samantha Tate to consider, so he had to be somewhat cautious.
Besides, his initial reason for going to the bar was because Shirley Miller had fired him up. Under such circumstances, it would be very disrespectful to go sleep with another woman.
A couple of kisses, a few touches, that was a little punishment for her, considering she flirted with him first. Besides, it was clear that this woman could handle it and wouldn’t flip out over something so trivial.
Presumably, the woman in the black dress must be feeling somewhat stifled now.
Whether one is willing, whether one takes initiative or is passive, being forced, the feelings are somewhat different.
Regardless, Carson was now in a good mood.
Who cares what she thinks.
When he got back to the hotel and lay on the bed, overcome by the effects of alcohol, Carson Flores quickly fell into a comfortable sleep.
The next day, as soon as Carson arrived at the security department, and before he even had a chance to change clothes, he was surrounded by his colleagues.
"Carson, you were awesome yesterday; the whole place is talking about you, so impressive!"
"You’ve been hiding your skills! Why haven’t you shown us before?"
Carson laughed and said, "Fighting is hardly an ability to brag about. I’m not a street performer needing to show off punching skills every now and then."
Hearing the commotion, Davis Bernard came out of his office and slapped Carson on the shoulder, "Not bad, you turned misfortune into luck last night, eh? What happened after that?"
All the security guards’ eyes widened with curiosity, "Yeah, what happened afterward? Did Ms. Miller say anything to you?"
"With your skills and looks, if Ms. Miller, young and beautiful as she is, took a fancy to you, you’d be set for life!"
"Tell us, what went down after that? Let us live vicariously through you."
Carson laughed and replied, "You guys have quite the imagination. Ms. Miller is married, so what about liking me? Besides, I’m a security guard doing security work. It’s all part of the job. What else could it be? Ms. Miller just complimented me a few times. What else could she do?"
Upon hearing this, everyone seemed a bit disappointed.
Everyone had imagined all sorts of scenarios about what might have happened after last night’s events, like some sort of heroine-falls-for-hero drama, but it turned out nothing had happened.
Davis chuckled and scolded, "Get back to work! You guys watch too much TV. Someone like Ms. Miller is beyond our reach. Didn’t you see how even Remy Johnston is all polite around Ms. Miller?"
The crowd dispersed with laughter, and Davis hooked his arm over Carson’s shoulder, asking in a low voice, "Did Remy say anything to you, like trying to win you over or anything?"
Carson smiled and said, "Chief Bernard, you’re scolding them but aren’t you the same, overthinking things? I’m just a guard; why would he recruit me – to have me guard his door? He was just giving face to Ms. Miller because she asked me to drive; he invited me for a drink... that’s all."
"What a pity," Davis Bernard sighed regretfully. "Remy Johnston is a real power player in the Johnston Family, and there’s talk he might even take over the Johnston Family one day. If he took a liking to you, that would be your real ticket to the top. Even if Ms. Miller values you highly, the most she’d offer is to have you be her bodyguard-cum-driver, or maybe replace me. The prospects are limited."
Carson laughed and said, "Please, Chief Bernard, don’t degrade me, and don’t test me. I have exactly zero interest in your job. Like I said, I’m not short on money. I just wanted a job to bide my time and give my family some peace of mind. I’m not interested in being busy with tasks all day long."
Davis laughed, "I wasn’t testing you. With your skills, even if Ms. Miller wanted to promote you to team lead and have me assist you right now, I’d be completely fine with that. We who’ve served in the military appreciate real skill. I was terrified by yesterday’s situation, but you weren’t afraid at all; you’ve got real guts."
Carson joked, "Well, as you said, if I couldn’t handle it, I’d just run for it. I’m not a local here, so who am I afraid of?"
Davis laughed heartily, "Ms. Miller told me this morning that she would give our security department a bonus of ten thousand, and I’m not going to touch it. You take it all and treat everyone to a meal and drinks at the food stall, and that will be that."
Carson responded with a smile, "We fought side by side; if you don’t take it, it wouldn’t sit right with me."
Davis Bernard answered with a wry smile, "Without you, I would have been beaten down. You saved me – not only from a beating but also from losing face. I probably couldn’t have continued as a team leader. I know you don’t need the money, but this is how things should be done..."
