Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Could My Background Not Be Simple?_1

"Sell the shares?"

Carson Flores turned his head in surprise, "You’ve been desperately guarding the business your father left behind, sparing no effort and cost. Why are you suddenly talking about selling? Are you willing to let go?"

Mary Jimenez sighed, "I just realized something. My persistence isn’t wrong, but if I keep this up, I’ll face even more targeted threats. I won’t just be harming myself but others around me too."

A flicker of fear crossed Mary Jimenez’s eyes, "If it weren’t for your remarkable abilities today, not only would I have sold my shares for cheap, I would have faced misfortune—and possibly even implicated you. This has happened twice already. If I continue, there will be a third time, a fourth time..."

Carson fell silent for two seconds, then suddenly chuckled, "If you’ve really thought it through, then selling your shares and leaving this circle might be good. As your parents, what they would probably wish to see most is not you seeking justice for them at the risk of danger, but rather, you living a safe and happy life."

Mary Jimenez hummed in acknowledgment, staring out the window in a daze. As the car left the darkness and returned to the city lights, the illumination flickered across her face, brightening and dimming.

"The Miller Family wants my shares, so I’ll sell to the Miller Family!"

Carson was somewhat surprised, "Don’t you hate them? And yet you’re selling to them?"

Mary Jimenez replied, "Selling River Miller and leaving Polgel doesn’t mean I’ve given up on my parents’ vendetta. I’m merely starting over in a place beyond their reach. In the future, if there’s an opportunity, I will come back to claim the justice that belongs to me and take back River Miller."

Carson suddenly understood Mary Jimenez’s mindset. By selling River Miller to the detested Miller Family, she was also motivating herself to move forward. If she was capable of defeating the Miller Family later on, wouldn’t what originally belonged to her return to her hands?

Carson didn’t stop her; in fact, for Mary Jimenez, this could be considered a good roundabout strategy. After all, in Polgel, which was completely under the influence of the Seashore Miller Family, it was very difficult for her to make a significant move.

"That works. Let me know if you need any help," he offered.

Mary Jimenez nodded, "I’ll discuss the acquisition directly with Oscar Miller. If he wants the shares, he’ll have to pay up real money for them!"

"Good!"

Since Mary Jimenez had this intention, Carson felt too lazy to bother with the Browning Family and Oscar Miller for the time being, and he brought the frightened Mary Jimenez back home.

Once home, Mary Jimenez took a bath first, relieving the stress of the day. When Carson finished his own bath, Mary Jimenez handed him a box.

"For you."

Carson’s eyes fell on the old sandalwood box in Mary Jimenez’s hands, "What’s this?"

"Jade Pendant."

Mary Jimenez pushed the box into Carson’s hands, "I was going to give it to you sooner or later, so there’s no need to delay. Take it, and you can start the investigation earlier."

Since Mary Jimenez had brought it out, Carson didn’t play coy, nodding as he accepted it, "Then I’ll hold onto it for now. Our agreement, I’ll continue to fulfill it."

Mary Jimenez pursed her lips, "You’ve saved my life twice. Even if there were huge debts of gratitude, they’d all be repaid now. You owe us nothing now, and if you want to leave, you’re free to go at any time."

Carson smiled, "Until clues or results about my origins come out, I actually don’t have anywhere else to go."

Mary Jimenez’s eyes brightened slightly, and she quietly sighed in relief, "Then stay for now. Not to mention that we’re legally married, but even considering the relationship between your master and my grandfather, this is your home too."

Carson chuckled lightly, "Alright!"

Mary Jimenez’s gaze returned to the box, "Aren’t you going to open it and take a look?"

Carson’s expression grew slightly complex. He was certain that opening this box might once again change his life.

Carson wasn’t particularly eager to investigate his origins, fearing that it might end up being a sad story. After all, what normal parent would abandon their own child? But now that the Jade Pendant was in his hands, he might as well look into it.

After all, he was an adult and could withstand any adversity.

The box opened, revealing the unique Jade Pendant quietly resting on blue velvet.

Carson took out the Jade Pendant, his eyes showing a hint of surprise.

Even though he wasn’t particularly knowledgeable about jade, he could tell at first glance that this piece was extraordinary—crystal clear, smooth, cool to the touch.

This Jade Pendant was round and flat, carved with a rustic character that wasn’t part of the standard script but instead resembled ancient seal script. Either way, Carson couldn’t recognize it.

Carson examined it thoroughly, "Is this a character?"

Mary Jimenez nodded, "It should be, but I don’t recognize it either. I searched online and found nothing. We’ll probably need to find an expert on text to understand it..."

Carson nodded, "I’ll find out where there are experts on text. Maybe this intricate and unique character is the key to unlocking my past. The quality of this jade is so good, and its design is so unique... Suddenly, I feel like my origins might not be so simple, huh?"
