Chapter 1431: Chapter 1431: Why Should I Save Her?

Carson Flores never expected Evangeline Waters would dare to openly ambush him. If it were any other time, he might have been able to dodge, but now, every ounce of his focus and energy was entirely devoted to battling the Light Sword—how could he have anything left to spare?

Carson gritted his teeth, deciding to take the hit head-on.

With his steel-like bones and unyielding spirit, he shouldn’t be killed outright, right?

Just as Carson braced to meet the black streak with his back, a lithe and graceful figure suddenly leapt out from the side, directly blocking the blow.

"Ding!"

"Ah!"

Evangeline Waters’ Meteor Iron Flying Sword intercepted the black streak unleashed by Evangeline.

The Meteor Iron Flying Sword was made of exceptional material, and while the black streak didn’t shatter it, the overwhelming momentum contained within transmitted instantly to the sword itself, sending it hurtling backward. The sword slammed violently into Spencer Steele’s chest.

Evangeline was in the Initial Stage of True Immortality, her power formidable; even in a sneak attack and not deploying her full strength, how could Spencer, merely at the Divinity Transformation Stage, hope to withstand her?

The bones in Spencer’s body fractured in an instant, a cacophony of cracks echoed within him, followed by a spray of blood from his mouth. His entire body was flung backward like a rag doll, crashing heavily onto the ground before Carson, unconscious on impact.

Carson’s eyes burned crimson.

"Spencer!"

With a furious roar, Carson’s Sword Qi exploded outward, engulfing him entirely. The Light Sword he was gripping was instantly subdued by the surge of Sword Qi.

The Sword Qi enveloping the Light Sword rapidly dissipated, leaving behind a soft glowing orb of light.

Simultaneously, Evangeline’s body was flung away as if struck by divine force, crashing hard onto the ground.

No physical attacks had touched her, yet her body seemed pinned to the earth as though impaled by an invisible spear, entirely immobilized.

The young man perched on the shoulder of the White Jade Statue cast a cold glance at Evangeline before shifting his gaze to Carson. His chin lifted slightly as he grinned and said, "See? Didn’t I tell you? Only someone fated could wield this sword. That orb you’re holding is your destiny. Since you’ve already caught the sword’s energy, you’re eligible to accept the inheritance now..."

As the young man spoke, the gazes of everyone present converged sharply upon the orb in Carson’s hand, brimming with envy.

Carson, a mere Human Immortal, had actually managed to catch this sword!

How could this make sense?

Even True Immortals had failed before—why had Carson succeeded?

The chosen one?

But... what exactly determined the chosen one?

Was the sword holding back its full strength as a test?

Carson, however, didn’t focus on the sphere of light hovering quietly before him. Instead, he turned immediately, seeing Evangeline pinned to the ground by an invisible force. Without hesitation, he dropped to one knee and assessed Spencer’s condition.

Spencer hadn’t died just yet, but he was teetering on the brink.

Not only was his physical body in ruin—even his Primordial Spirit was on the verge of shattering.

Although Evangeline had struck stealthily, she was still a True Immortal—how could Spencer possibly endure such an assault?

Carson couldn’t save him.

Not even with the Life Essence Pearl could Spencer be rescued!

Spencer was about to die!

Carson turned towards the young man and bowed deeply, pleading, "Senior, could you intervene and save my disciple? This debt, I will surely repay in the future."

The young man replied lazily, "He is your disciple, not mine. Why should I save him?"

Carson’s heart burned with urgency, yet he knew the other had no obligation to help. Frantically, he searched for a reason: "I caught this sword, which, as per your words, makes me eligible to inherit this destiny. In that sense, I am your successor. Spencer got injured protecting me, which makes him... one of us..."

The young man gave a faint chuckle: "First, destiny is simply destiny—it doesn’t automatically make you my successor. Becoming my successor? That doesn’t come so easily. Second, he got injured protecting you, and that has nothing to do with me. Third, even if there’s inheritance involved, it pertains to you. If you were injured, I would indeed save you, but him? Surely not..."

Carson’s eyes lit up with determination: "What must I do to accept this destiny?"

The young man smiled: "Absorb it into your Sea of Consciousness."

"Thank you, Senior, for your guidance!"

Carson reached out, enclosing the softly glowing orb of light. He glanced at Spencer, who lay dying before him, then resolutely thrust the orb directly into Spencer’s brow.

The young man froze in astonishment.

Everyone present stared in stunned disbelief.

Carson had actually chosen to send such an extraordinary destiny—a treasure with the power to dominate the Immortal Domains—into Spencer’s Sea of Consciousness, just to save him!

The young man’s gaze turned curious and tinged with surprise: "This destiny is utterly unique—not even I can replicate it. While I understand your profound bond as master and disciple, do you truly comprehend what you’ve given up?"

Carson’s expression remained calm, his gaze unwavering: "Faced with the attack from a True Immortal, Spencer surely knew what would happen to her. Yet, without hesitation, she acted. Compared to her sacrifice, what does giving up this destiny matter? Besides, perhaps this destiny was meant to belong to her from the start..."
