Chapter 1400: Chapter 1400: Refining the Sword Bone, The Road is Endless
It must be said that Lance Matthews’ decision is very much in line with Carson Flores’ usual line of thought.
Can one win for a lifetime?
If you lose, it’s not really important. What’s important is that after a loss, you can escape and have the opportunity to rise again.
Win once, lose a hundred times, as long as you can escape, that’s no problem. You can try again, and eventually, you will win. But if you win a hundred times and lose once and cannot escape, that’s complete game over—no future.
The Pursuit Light Boots, a speed-enhancing Spiritual Treasure, can greatly increase one’s movement speed. Combined with his own Ground Shrinking Technique, his speed will be doubled.
The Qilin Cloak, a defensive Spiritual Treasure, is a black cloak engraved with a lifelike Kylin. It is said to have been refined from a Kylin’s True Soul and can provide tremendous defense. Moreover, it can also summon the Kylin’s True Soul to fight, its combat power comparable to that of a True Immortal. As for how long it can fight, that depends on the master’s strength.
The Great Displacement Command, an escape-aiding Spiritual Treasure, is beyond any Great Displacement Command that Carson Flores had used in the Barbaric Wilderness Realm. In other words, the ones used in the Barbaric Wilderness Realm are but imitations. They have a similar effect, but the efficacy is far different.
Once the Great Displacement Command is activated, unless the opponent has heaven-reaching means, it can ignore illusionary realms and traps and achieve directed displacement for three hundred miles, truly a life-saving artifact.
"Thank you. With these three magical treasures, I am even more certain of my chances to escape," Carson said.
Lance Matthews saw Carson’s cheerful smile and responded with a laugh, "Safety first. You’re still young; there is no need to compete with others over fleeting supremacy. Given time, who else could be your match?"
Carson smiled and said, "That’s also what I think."
After saying goodbye to Lance Matthews, Carson went back to Heavenly Sword Peak to tell Franklin Austin that he was leaving.
Franklin Austin, in his languid manner, said, "It’s good to travel around a bit. Pure asceticism has no future. All the geniuses in history who have made a name for themselves have gone through various dangers and obtained all sorts of opportunities; none of them have truly risen to prominence through asceticism alone."
Carson laughed and said, "So Uncle Franklin, why don’t you travel around as well?"
Franklin laughed, "I have limited talent. This is it for me in this lifetime. Solo and without family or friends, going out would be just the same. I’d rather stay here for some peace."
Carson chuckled, "I’ve taken in four people. This time I’ll take two away, and leave two behind. If anything comes up, you can order them to deal with it."
Franklin nodded, "They’ve all consumed Immortal Origin Pills to extend their lives for ten thousand years. They’re just a bit short of becoming immortals; they need to go through one Heavenly Tribulation, temper their bodies, and replace their energy with Immortal Spirit Qi in order to truly become immortals."
Carson casually asked, "This Heavenly Tribulation is different from the typical Tribulation Crossing for ascension, right? They’re already beyond the realm that can trigger the Tribulation..."
Franklin smiled, "That’s the difficulty, but the world is vast. There are always some peculiar places, like the Thunder Cave, full of the Thunder Power, which suits their situation quite well. Of course, there are other ways, too. It all depends on opportunity."
Carson was not in a hurry; he had already fulfilled his promises to them and did not owe them anything. He wouldn’t go out of his way to help them, but if the opportunity truly lay before them, he would go with the flow and give them a hand.
"Enjoy your tea slowly, I’m going back to ponder for a bit more," he said.
Carson returned to his room and took out the peculiar Stele to start studying it.
A regular scorpion, just by consuming a bit of powder, could grow into a powerful being capable of contending with a Human Immortal. If he absorbed all the special substance from this entire Stele, how tough could his body become?
The Stele was extremely hard, but Carson effortlessly took out a seized Battle Axe and chopped off a small piece quite smoothly.
It wasn’t as hard as he imagined.
Carson sat cross-legged, holding the chunk of stone, which looked like raw ore, and practiced his Cultivation Practice just like when he refined the Sword Bone and absorbed the Dark Iron Raven Essence.
Soon, Carson felt a subtle change in the stone chunk in his hand.
He seemed to establish a mystical connection with it, its interior resembling a Star River. Amidst the pitch-black night sky, there was a multitude of shining stars twinkling like the Star River.
As Carson activated his refinement mental method, those shining stars seemed to be pulled by a black hole, moving rapidly. Eventually, they left the stone chunk and entered Carson’s body. Then, under Carson’s control, they moved into his index finger bone.
Carson was overjoyed; it actually worked!
What were the effects?
Never mind, he would find out by trying.
Even ordinary scorpions could become so powerful, and he, after all, had a much better foundation than a scorpion. Surely, he could withstand what a scorpion could.
In one day, Carson completely absorbed all the special minerals from that stone chunk, leaving the once-hard and black-luminous stone now dull and like a clod of dirt.
With a light squeeze, the stone chunk instantly shattered into countless grains of sand.
Carson lifted his hand, observing his index finger.
The bone that was originally entwined with gold on red had now turned completely black, even darker and shinier than the shell of the scorpion he had seen!
With a flick of his left hand, a fierce slash of Sword Qi cut across his right index finger. The flesh opened, and the Sword Qi struck the bone with a "ding" sound.
Completely unscathed!
