Chapter 1293: Chapter 1293: The True Land of the Immortal

"Senior, how can one tell if their fate is sufficient for immortality?"

Carson Flores asked with a face full of curiosity and anticipation. This curiosity was not feigned, as the legends of becoming immortal on Mystical Immortal Island had always intrigued him.

Who wouldn’t want to become immortal?

The elder stroked his beard, assuming an aura of immortal presence: "No rush, no rush. When the time comes, the outcome will become clear. Fate for immortality is straightforward; either you have it or you don’t. Your anxiety cannot change the result."

Carson Flores nodded, but with a hint of reluctance, he asked, "This island must have seen many visitors over time, right?"

The elder chuckled: "Are you asking if any of the past visitors became immortal?"

Carson Flores nodded: "Yes."

"Of course, there have been. I’m talking about real immortals, not half-immortals like us."

The elder sighed: "There are three types of people who come to Mystical Immortal Island. The first type has sufficient immortal fate to become immortal. This kind is extremely rare. In ten thousand years, only a handful have achieved it. After all, becoming an immortal isn’t so easy."

"The second kind has strong immortal fate but falls just short of becoming immortal, ending up as half-immortals like me."

"The third kind barely has any immortal fate at all. These people can’t even become half-immortals, but since they’ve come this far, they are considered destined. We won’t let them leave empty-handed, so we give them some benefits to enhance their strength before sending them away."

Carson Flores asked with a curious face: "I’ve heard that those who leave here lose their memories, forgetting everything about this place?"

The elder laughed: "Correct, that’s a side effect of leaving the Barrier of Mystical Immortal Island. Naturally, it’s also to protect the secrets of the island. Thus, those who leave experience varying degrees of memory loss; the duration of which differs from person to person."

Since the elder was answering all questions, Carson Flores didn’t hold back. Isn’t having tea the perfect time for a chat?

"When I entered, I came in directly through the Barrier. Can’t I just leave the same way?"

The elder smiled and replied: "Naturally, you cannot. The Mystical Immortal Token is necessary for entering, but it doesn’t allow for leaving. To leave, one must take a specific pathway. Otherwise, there’s no exit."

Carson Flores continued to inquire: "Is the Mystical Immortal Token issued by you, as a way to invite destined individuals here?"

The elder nodded: "It’s issued by the immortals here. As I mentioned earlier, I, like you, am a destined person who received the Mystical Immortal Token. After becoming a Demi Immortal, I settled here in seclusion and never left."

Carson Flores curiously asked: "Why not leave? Is it because you worry about losing your memory?"

The elder chuckled: "For one, there is Immortal Spirit Qi here, which grants a longer lifespan. Secondly, I don’t want to lose my memories. I had no attachments outside as I was alone, so I stayed. Later, I met my wife and... we’ve been living here ever since..."

Realization dawned on Carson Flores, who smiled and said: "This place is like a hidden paradise, living here is indeed peaceful and quiet. Everything is nice, except that there aren’t many people."

The elder chuckled: "Indeed. Although I am a Demi Immortal, who wouldn’t wish to truly become an Immortal and ascend to the Immortal Realm? Unfortunately, the Immortal Path of the Barbarian Wilderness is severed. Even if one were to leave, the chances of becoming an Immortal are zero. Staying here, one can live longer and still interact with immortals, holding on to that sliver of hope."

Carson Flores was slightly shocked: "Senior, you’re aware of the severed Immortal Path outside?"

The elder laughed: "Although not many, there have been various visitors here, so we are quite informed about the outside world."

"If we didn’t know the Immortal Path was severed and ascension was impossible, why would I have stayed here after gaining the chance all those years ago? Even if losing some memory, if I could become an Immortal, starting over would be worth it, wouldn’t it?"

Suddenly, Carson Flores remembered that the severing of the Immortal Path happened a myriad of years ago due to the grudge between Maggie Fitzgerald and Cristopher Hopkins Immortal. So, how long has Mystical Immortal Island existed?

"Senior, how long has Mystical Immortal Island been around?"

The elder smiled leisurely: "I’m not certain of the exact time, but from what they say, it’s been tens of thousands of years. It’s believed that Mystical Immortal Island has existed since the Human Race and Demon Race first came to be."

Carson Flores felt a chill in his heart; Mystical Immortal Island had such a long-standing history!

This traced back to the ancient times of the Barbarian Wilderness!

As the conversation reached this point, although Carson Flores still wasn’t sure exactly what this place was, he was pretty certain about one thing: Mystical Immortal Island truly had connections with immortals.

Were the immortals from the Immortal Realm secluded here in the Barbarian Wilderness for cultivation?

Tens of thousands of years is an incredibly long time for humans and cultivators, but for immortals, it might not be long at all. It’s said that truly powerful immortals have extraordinarily long lives, as endless as the Star River itself, never dying.

As the conversation came to this point, the cup of tea had been drunk to the last drop. Carson Flores had more questions, but the elder ended the chat with a smile.

"As you’re new here, let me arrange a place for you to stay. Afterwards, you can look around. In the evening, everyone will throw a welcome banquet for you..."
