Chapter 1237: Chapter 1237 - All the Stories Have Come Together!

"The Northern Mystic Sect, one of the eight great Immortal Sects in the Thunder Immortal Realm, Sect Master Noel Graham is an old brother-in-arms from my father’s conquests in the Immortal Domains, nominally a subordinate, but in reality, a friend."

"Vincent Heath has a son named Diego Heath, extraordinarily gifted, unrivaled in handsomeness, achieving remarkable feats at a young age, hailed as the Son of the Northern Mystic, one of the three prodigies of Thunder."

"Because of Uncle Vincent’s relationship with my father, there were frequent dealings, so Diego and I grew up quite acquainted, addressing each other as siblings and growing up together, a case of childhood sweethearts."

"Because I was very close to Maggie Fitzgerald, every time Diego visited, I would invite her to join us in our amusements, little did I know that this would plant the seeds of disaster."

Hearing this, Carson Flores could more or less infer what was to follow.

After all, the entanglements of love gone unrequited and turning to hatred due to jealousy were all too common throughout history.

They were a cliché in soap operas.

Carson could offhandedly recount a dozen or more narratives of love turning to bloody vengeance out of jealousy.

"Maggie fell in love with Diego, Diego liked you, and Maggie, out of love turned to hatred, thought that by killing you, she could have Diego for herself, so she made a move against you?"

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal looked at Carson, her gaze subtle, "Sounds pretty melodramatic, doesn’t it?"

Carson managed a wry smile, "Indeed, it’s not a surprising story."

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal sighed, "The truth is, Diego’s feelings for me were probably more those of a brother, but my father and Uncle Vincent were both keen to pair us as a Daoist couple. As for myself, I wasn’t particularly opposed, given our familiarity since childhood and his remarkable excellence and kindness towards me."

Carson nodded in understanding.

Marriages and alliances too often lacked earth-shattering romance, frequently arising from matched social standing—mutual acceptance, companionship, and over time, affection morphing into kinship.

At that point, to quantify their love might be a challenge, but to deny it would be to ignore the deep care they held for each other.

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal and Diego Heath, having grown up together as childhood sweethearts and being so well-known to each other, and given his kindness towards her, even brotherly, it was natural for her to feel secure about marrying such a man.

"Maggie took a liking to Diego, so when she knew I was inclined to consent to the matchmaking and be with Diego, she began to hate me. She believed that without me, she could seize the opportunity and win Diego’s affection."

"She tricked me into descending to the Lower Realm and then plotted my murder in the Valley of Death. She hated me and also feared my return, so she did everything in her power to suppress and dismember my spirit."

Unable to help himself, Carson interjected, "Did she end up with Diego in the end?"

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal managed a bitter smile, "Yes, she succeeded. After my disappearance, she used the pretext of searching for me to involve Diego, and during their time alone, she took advantage of Diego’s emotional turmoil to offer herself to him, and ultimately, they became a pair."

Carson was momentarily speechless; this was truly a tale of a scheming opportunist clawing her way to the top.

"But as the saying goes, ’Though lands may shift, one’s nature stays,’ after Maggie and Diego became a couple, her true colors began to show. Even though they remained husband and wife, they hardly interacted, leading separate lives dedicated to their own cultivation."

"Having become Diego’s wife and entered the Northern Mystic Sect, and with some manipulation coupled with her own formidable talents in cultivation, she’s now powerful in her own right even though she and Diego have separated. But in name, she’s still Lady Heath, wielding considerable influence in the Northern Mystic Sect."

Carson inquired, "Was she behind the severing of the Ascendance Passage?"

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal replied, "It was her scheme, but the one who severed the passage is Brian Gross, not one of her subordinates, but rather, someone who fell victim to her machinations."

"She lured Brian’s child to the Lower Realm, only to have that child perish in the Barbaric Wilderness Realm. Enraged, Brian unleashed a bloody massacre in the wilderness, culminating in the severance of the Ascendance Passage."

Carson blinked, a piece of information suddenly surfacing in his mind.

Path of Refinement...

The offspring of a person of stature refined by the Path of Refinement...

The Path of Refinement besieged...

The passage severed...

Carson’s eyes widened, "Brian’s son, was he killed by those skilled in the Path of Refinement from the Ten Thousand Ghosts Sect? The sects associated with the Path of Refinement were besieged and nearly wiped out of existence..."

"Yes."

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal looked slightly surprised, "You’re aware of this?"

Carson managed a bitter smile, "I’d heard some fragmented tales before, but now that you mention it, it all comes together. Now, it all makes sense."

He paused, then added with hope, "It seems now that whether it’s Brian Gross, Diego Heath, or even your father, they’ve all been deceived by Maggie. Once they learn the truth, they would surely grind her bones and scatter her ashes, wouldn’t they?"

Cristopher Hopkins Immortal replied with a wry smile, "Thousands of years have passed, and the world has changed dramatically. Maggie is now a formidable force. Diego remains her husband, and they have children; he might not have the heart to kill her. Brian is strong, but might be powerless against her now. And as for my father, from her memories, I learned that he went to the North Dark Myriad Realms Conference and never returned, that was five hundred years ago..."
