Chapter 122: Chapter 122 I’m So Silly, Really_1
Martin Baker’s office door was slammed open.
Alexis Vasquez stood at the doorway, his face crimson and his expression agitated, his eyes fixed intently on Martin Baker as if flames were about to spew forth.
Rusty Schneider turned his head and asked, "What’s wrong? Why that look on your face?"
Martin Baker also felt a sinking feeling in his heart, but pretended to be calm as he asked, "What happened?"
Alexis Vasquez coldly said, "The inspection team is here, led by Hugo Combs. He issued a notice of production suspension and rectification for the company."
Martin Baker was puzzled in his heart, the notice of production suspension and rectification had been issued?
Could it be that Carson Flores was deceiving him?
Impossible!
Just now, he had indirectly inquired for more details. Brian James’s four fierce companions had suddenly all disappeared—that same night, Brian James was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, but all was in vain. He was later taken back home, and then Shepard James returned, with both father and son dying the previous night.
The outside world said they both fell off a cliff to their death, and Shepard James’s master, Malcolm Gross, broke an arm trying to save them.
All this confirmed that what Carson Flores had said was true, but how come the notice of production suspension was still issued?
Martin Baker had to keep up the act; otherwise, he would offend not only Carson Flores but also the people before him.
"Yeah, isn’t this something we all know about? Is there a problem?"
Rusty Schneider sighed, "Fortunately, we sold our shares before the notice was issued, otherwise, who would dare to buy our shares now?"
"Yeah, it’s a loss, but it’s still better than being worth nothing."
"Compared to the initial investment when we started the company, we still made quite a bit. Let’s be content."
"That’s all we can think, be content with what you have, be content with what you have."
Hearing everyone’s sighs, Alexis Vasquez’s gaze became indescribably strange, "Be content with what you have, huh. I just fear you won’t be able to feel joy."
Rusty Schneider, frowning, asked, "What’s the matter, why that look on your face?"
Alexis Vasquez looked at Martin Baker resentfully, "Right after Hugo Combs issued the production rectification notice, the Minister of Environmental Protection and the leader of the inspection team, Ray Singleton, arrived at our company, took back the rectification notice, and even removed Hugo Combs from his position on the spot, saying that he would thoroughly investigate the abuse of power, and Hugo Combs is likely to end up behind bars..."
Silence!
The laughter that filled the room suddenly ceased.
Everyone looked at each other with shock on their faces.
Rusty Schneider slammed his hand on the table, abruptly stood up, and said in astonishment, "No more suspension?"
"Right, no more suspension!"
Alexis Vasquez’s voice had a few more notes of grinding teeth, "Minister Singleton even apologized to Ms. Miller, saying the company’s issues were not serious and they could rectify while producing, no need to halt operations."
Seconds later, the entire office exploded.
"Damn, doesn’t that mean we sold our shares at a loss?"
"Quick, call Golden Sunshine Investments, we’re not selling anymore!"
"Did the inspection team eat shit or what, playing us like this? Ordering a suspension one moment, and voiding it the next, what’s the deal?"
"Martin, call them now!"
Martin Baker grimaced, spread his hands, and said, "What’s the use of calling? The contract has been signed, fingerprints have been pressed, they’ve signed and stamped their seal. The contract is already in effect, do you think the other party will agree to void it?"
Everyone was stunned. Of course, if they were receiving a bargain, who would spit it back out after pocketing the shares?
If they were in that position, they wouldn’t spit it out either.
Why should they return the money they cleverly scammed?
All eyes landed on Martin Baker, filled with suspicion and resentment.
"Martin, selling the shares was your idea, shouldn’t you give us an explanation?"
"Exactly, if it hadn’t been for you saying the company was going bankrupt and the shares would become worthless, would we have sold our shares in such a panic?"
"That Thomas Roth was also contacted by you, Martin; when he was underbidding, you still advised us. Is he in league with you?"
"Martin Baker, we trusted you, and you conspired with outsiders to scam us?"
Becoming the focus of everyone’s condemnation, Martin Baker instantly panicked and hurriedly defended himself, "I scam you? If I were scamming you, would I sell my own shares? You all saw it, I was just like you, same price, same contract, and now you blame me?"
Alexis Vasquez, eyes red, shouted, "I don’t care, how you sell your shares is your business, but you helped others to reduce our price, so you have to compensate for our loss!"
"Right, you have to compensate us!"
"That’s right, if it weren’t for you, why would we have sold?"
"If you don’t pay up, you’re not leaving this room today!"
Martin Baker steeled his heart; everyone had already sold, and he had suffered a great loss himself, how could he possibly pay up?
"If you want to get rough, fine then, I’ll let you know—I don’t have money, but I have a life to take. Come on then!"
Alexis Vasquez, eyes reddened, leaped up and threw a punch, landing it on Martin Baker’s eye, "If you don’t pay, I’ll beat you to death today!"
"Right, beat him up!"
A group of angry shareholders rushed forward and instantly submerged Martin Baker in a sea of people...
