Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Private Game_1

The group, upon reflection, realized that this made sense and felt even more panicked.

"What can we do then?"

"Martin, we’ve always been supportive of you. Now, you can’t just abandon us and take off on your own."

"Exactly, we’re all in the same boat, we’ve always moved forward or retreated together. Now, we should all have a plan."

Martin dropped another bombshell: "Moreover, from what I’ve heard, Hugo is just the executor. Someone else is behind him, with an incredible amount of power. River Miller won’t be able to survive this tough spot. It’s doomed."

Upon hearing this, the shareholders panicked even more.

"Hugo is just the executor?"

"Who on earth is it that wants to utterly destroy River Miller?"

"So, what do we do now?"

Martin sighed, "Other than selling our shares, what can we do? We should sell them off quickly before the suspension and rectification notice is issued. That way, we might get a better price. Once the situation is clear and River Miller is just waiting for its death, who would be willing to pay then?"

Alexis Vasquez immediately became anxious: "But, who is going to buy from us in such a rush?"

Martin looked around at everyone: "Right now, there are only two kinds of people who would buy our shares: first, fools who don’t know our situation and are unaware that bankruptcy is looming; second, powerful individuals who could change the outcome after acquiring the shares..."

Everyone’s eyes lit up at this thought. If that was the case, they could wait for someone else to sell, wait for someone to take over and revitalize the company, and continue to safely collect dividends as shareholders.

How could Martin not understand what everyone was thinking: "Shirley Miller is obviously kept in the dark, and everyone knows their dedication to the company. She would definitely not sell her shares, so the second possibility practically doesn’t exist."

The group thought this over and realized he was right. Being shareholders, they were just in it for the money, but Shirley considered the company to be of utmost importance. She indeed wouldn’t sell her shares.

Given that, there seemed to be only the first possibility left.

Martin continued, "The suspension and rectification notice is likely to be issued within two or three days. From the moment it’s received, production must stop. So, at most, we have two days left."

The group became even more frightened.

"How can we possibly sell within two days?"

"Yeah, after all, it’s not a small amount of money. A purchase of shares certainly requires extensive verification and checks. Two days are simply not enough..."

"What do we do now?"

Alexis Vasquez anxiously asked, "Martin, aren’t you looking for buyers for your shares? Could you help everyone sell theirs too? If we sell as a group, with a larger quantity of shares, we could ask for a higher price."

Martin wore a look of difficulty: "The combined shares are a bit much, though."

Alexis Vasquez quickly said, "Please, if you help us sell the shares, nobody will let you do all this for nothing."

Martin pretended to struggle with the idea and then said, "Alright, I’ll ask around to see if someone is willing to take all our shares. But just a heads up, the price won’t be what it usually is; it will be very low. Be prepared if you want to sell, and if you don’t want to, just ignore what I said."

Everyone’s heart sank, but they knew it was inevitable.

If you’re in a rush to sell your shares, anyone with a lick of sense would know something’s up. Even if they wanted to buy, pushing down the price was inevitable.

"Okay, you contact them first and see what price they offer."

Martin breathed a sigh of relief. Success!

He just had to put on a show next, let Supreme step in to take the shares off everyone’s hands, and then use this incident to push Shirley Miller out. Then it would all be settled!

...

Shirley Miller sat in her office, deep in thought for a long time, and eventually picked up the phone.

She had to face the issues and address them. Avoidance wouldn’t solve anything.

"Hello, Group Leader Hugo, this is Shirley Miller from the Miller Group."

Hugo’s voice was clear and cheerful: "Ms. Miller, hello. What can I do for you?"

Shirley tentatively said, "It’s about the problems found in our company’s audit. I wanted to talk to you and see if there might be any other way to resolve them?"

Hugo was silent for two seconds, then he sighed, "This is a tough one to solve. But since you’re Samantha Tate’s cousin, let’s do this: some things are better not discussed over the phone. Let’s have dinner together tonight and talk."

Shirley raised her eyebrows. After the last incident, she was very wary of dinner invitations at night.

But obviously, if she wanted to resolve the issue, she had no choice but to accept.

"Fine, I’ll arrange the venue."

Hugo objected: "No need for that, it’s just the two of us, a private meeting, no need for the fuss. Just a casual place for a simple meal, that’s all we need to chat. I’ll make the arrangements."

Shirley had no choice but to agree: "Okay, then I’ll leave it to you, Group Leader Hugo."

"Wait for my call later."

After hanging up the phone, Shirley furrowed her brows, eyeing her phone for a few seconds before biting her lip and dialing Carson Flores’s number.

Although she felt awkward bothering Carson all the time and found it hard to broach the subject, she didn’t trust anyone else with such matters.

Unknowingly, Carson had become a trustworthy figure in her heart. With him around, there was nothing to fear!

"Carson, do you have time tonight... I’m sorry to bother you
