Chapter 1042: Chapter 1042: In the Central Divine Continent, Good People Don’t Live Long
"The rich, the powerful?"
Zaire Schneider laughed and said. "Yeah, like the boss always says, how much money can those commoners have? They’re just victims of oppression by those families, wealthy households, and Sects, robbing them is like scraping oil from chicken feet, a total waste of time, might as well lie down and soak up some sun."
"Central Divine Continent has been in chaos for thousands of years. Those big families and filthy-rich households that rose in troubled times, not a single one of them is decent, they’re all vampires. The high and mighty Cultivator Sects are even more so, robbing them, you can make a fortune and it feels especially great."
Carson Flores asked. "This past month, I’ve noticed you guys haven’t killed anyone, do you all not kill?"
"Kill! Why wouldn’t we kill?"
Zaire Schneider grinned as he said. "We’re bandits, not saints. We give people a way to survive, but not everyone gives us the same chance. We need to live, they naturally have to die."
"However, such people are rare. The majority hear the reputation of the Eight Great Kings, and who dares to resist? Even if there’s some resistance, a little suppression quickly gets them to hand over what they have."
"Speaking of which, we’ve somewhat benefited from the likes of the Skeleton Bandit King and the Blood Fiend Bandit King. They’ve done every evil deed under the sun, completely ruining the reputation of the Eight Great Kings, making our robberies much smoother."
Carson Flores puzzledly asked. "Can’t big families and the wealthy have good people among them?"
Zaire Schneider gave a meaningful smile. "Maybe in other provinces it’s possible, but in Central Divine Continent, good people don’t live long. Those who survive and thrive are definitely not good people."
Carson Flores raised his glass and clinked it against Zaire Schneider’s. "Is this what you guys normally do, just keep moving around robbing, never settling down, or do you have a fixed lair, family, or something?"
After a pause, Carson Flores added. "I’m just curious, and I’m not looking for specifics. Even if you have one, you don’t need to tell me where it is."
Zaire Schneider sighed and continued. "Originally, our Vajra Bandit Group was not this small, we had at least two hundred people, some were full members, some were family. We had a fixed lair in a secluded and hidden valley, almost like a paradise."
Sadness filled Zaire Schneider’s eyes. "Because we always targeted the Great Sects, we angered them. They bribed one of our own, and then took advantage of a gathering when all our members were together to forcefully attack us."
"The attack was sudden, and immediately many were killed or injured. The boss led us in fighting our way out, barely escaping with our lives."
"That night, only about thirty of our brothers who fought out survived, the second and third in command died in that battle, and about a dozen family members were rescued. The remaining brothers and family were killed by those Great Sects, not a single one was spared."
"Afterward, we planned several revenge actions. Although we killed the traitor and inflicted significant damage to those Sects, in these battles, about another dozen brothers died. Moreover, they became wary, making it hard to strike at them again. If we continued fighting, we feared we all would perish, so the boss led us to retreat."
"To not repeat the same mistake, the boss had someone secretly settle those dozen or so family members. Apart from the boss and the Think Tank, no one else knows where they are, and then we began our nomadic lives, robbing, wandering, and cultivating..."
Carson Flores fell silent, previously thinking that the Vajra Gang seemed too few in number, only about twenty or so people. Now he knew that many more had died.
"How long ago did this happen?"
Zaire Schneider gave a wry smile. "Almost twenty years now, if my son hadn’t died back then, he’d probably be about your age now."
Carson Flores asked. "Have you given up on revenge?"
"Bang!"
Zaire Schneider smashed his fist on the table and snorted, "How could we? They’ve forced us to not be able to live, forced us to become bandits, killed our families, how can this grievance be easily let go? The day I die, this matter ends. If I’m not dead, it’s fight to the death!"
Carson Flores curiously asked. "You mentioned the Great Sects, with Central Divine Continent being so chaotic, how many Great Sects are still around?"
Zaire Schneider sighed. "Central Divine Continent was originally the most flourishing region of the Human Race, with the most Sects and the strongest fighters. Despite being devastated by the wars between the Human and Demon Races, and the Ancient Eight Great Families being completely dispersed, many legacies remain."
"As long as the legacy exists, Cultivation cannot be extinguished. In this chaotic land of Central Divine Continent, there are still numerous powerful Great Sects. They enslave the cities around them, own various Spiritual Mountain Veins, essentially forming their own nations."
"Places like your Greown City and the surrounding areas are impoverished and war-torn lands with nothing particularly valuable to produce. Such places are simply beneath the notice of those Great Sects, otherwise, why would they be frequently fought over and have City Lords changed often?"
"Though Central Divine Continent is in disarray, it’s still the most expansive, and it leads in Cultivation resources. There are still many powerful individuals. It’s drawn borders to form nations. Otherwise, wouldn’t the Demon Race have completely taken over Central Divine Continent by now?"
