Chapter 1023: Chapter 1023: If I Speak Up, Who Dares to Disobey?
The Demon Emperor and the Human Emperor sitting together, drinking tea and playing chess?
Lilianna Norman’s eyes widened as she imagined the scene, finding it incredibly strange, before suddenly snapping back to reality.
The Demon Emperor and the Human Emperor, aren’t they father and son?
The image of a father and son drinking tea and playing chess together...
"Do you think this way because the Demon Emperor is your father?"
Carson Flores shook his head, "No, even if it were a true member of the Demon Race, and I had no relationship with them, I would still hold this viewpoint."
Carson Flores looked at Lilianna Norman and chuckled lightly, "I come from the Mortal Realm, so my views might differ from yours. Besides, I think this is relatively achievable."
"Isn’t the situation basically like that now? Easty Prefecture and Eastern Emperor Province are the territories of the Demon Race, basically void of the Human Race. In Northern, Misrds, Southern, and Central Divine Continent, there are only low-level demonic beasts and very few high-level members of the Demon Race. The Mortal Realm is in chaos, where the Human Race and the Demon Race coexist without any rules to bind their actions. There is no regulation to protect the safety of the lower-class citizens."
"If there were a powerful figure to establish just laws, backed by strong enforcement, I don’t think peaceful coexistence between the two races is difficult to achieve."
"Tragedies like those in Greown City, I think they are not unavoidable."
Lilianna Norman gave a bitter smile, "What you say is very idealistic, but will others agree with your views?"
Carson Flores spread his hands, "The current situation is clear for all to see. The goal I speak of is somewhat better than the present, isn’t it? Why should there be objections?"
"Besides, I lack the ability; speaking of these things is like dreaming—suicidal. But if I had the power and I spoke out, who would dare to oppose me?"
Lilianna Norman was stunned for a moment, then suddenly smiled, "Right, if you had the sufficient strength, who would dare to defy you? This world has always been ruled by the powerful. Unless someone can destroy you, your word becomes the law!"
Carson Flores nodded in agreement, "Exactly, so the premise of all I’ve said is having enough military strength, otherwise, it’s all just illusory."
Carson Flores glanced at Lilianna Norman and asked, "What about you, Demon Race Holy Maiden, what are your goals, or rather, your ideals?"
A flicker of confusion passed through the eyes of the Demon Race Holy Maiden, and after a few seconds of silence she said, "Before, it was to lead the Demon Race to restore its former glory."
Carson Flores smiled, "To attack the Human Race, trample them underfoot, and turn them into slaves for the Demon Race..."
Violeta Herrera did not answer, but it was clear that her answer would not have been much different from what Carson Flores had said.
Haven’t the campaigns between the Human Race and the Demon Race always been a matter of life and death?
A city appeared before them, and Carson Flores turned back, staring at the dilapidated and ancient city walls.
"We’ve arrived."
The walls of Greown City were tall, and the city had a large encompassing area, but the walls were severely damaged, no one seemed to live outside the city, and the fields beyond were sparsely dotted with crops, giving off a desolate appearance.
The city was large, but it too was desolate.
On the eastern city gate hung the corpses of two humans — a man and a woman. The bodies were shriveled, barely recognizable as male and female, naked, with the male’s body at least intact, while the female’s was incomplete, two great holes in her chest, wounds all over her body, a horrific sight.
Carson Flores’s gaze was calm; he took a brief look and said evenly, "Let’s go into the city."
Lilianna Norman inquired, "Aren’t you going to collect them?"
Carson Flores replied indifferently, "They need a proper mourning. Once I get the offerings, I’ll come back to collect them."
Lilianna Norman pursed her lips, understanding well what Carson Flores meant by ’offerings’.
As the Demon Race Holy Maiden, she should have said something, but facing Carson Flores, and the hanging corpses, especially the twisted face of the female cultivator, she was at a loss for words.
She followed behind Carson Flores in silence.
There were no guards at the city gate; the demons that had taken over the city were not worried about people leaving — as long as they did not use a flying boat to escape, where could ordinary people go?
Even the nearest city was a thousand miles away; how could ordinary people traverse a wilderness infested with demonic beasts?
Walking slowly along the cobblestone paths of the city, which were quite worn with many potholes and no one to repair them.
The dilapidated houses lining the cobblestone streets, some of them now uninhabited and draped in cobwebs.
As they walked towards the center of the city, the streets became more populated, though it was clear life was hard for those that lived there.
Carson Flores was about to ask for directions to the City Lord’s Mansion when suddenly, an anxious old woman by the roadside waved towards them.
Carson Flores approached, "Old lady, what’s the matter?"
The old lady looked around nervously and then whispered, "You folks are strangers here, aren’t you? Get out of here quickly, this place has been taken over by the Demon Race. Their leader has a penchant for women, and his minions scour the city for beautiful women to send to the City Lord’s Mansion for his pleasure..."
A warmth filled Carson Flores’s heart, realizing the old woman meant well, like the middle-aged man before.
Carson Flores was about to respond when suddenly, a sharp and cold voice came from nearby: "You old hag, you’ve got some nerve, daring to bad-mouth our City Lord behind his back. It looks like I’ve found my dinner for tonight..."
