Chapter 1005: Chapter 1005: I Have a Bold Idea...
Carson had only seen his father once, and it was in Harmony Hollow; he had already been chosen as the Demon Emperor Heir, parasitized by the Heart of the Demon Emperor.
When he had given him the Emperor’s Sutra Heaven Scroll, it was obviously a fierce struggle against the Demon Emperor’s Will, and so much time had passed since then—could he still retain his own will and emotions?
Carson wasn’t sure, and that was the reason he had always wanted to come here, to see his father.
At least, he wanted to confirm whether he was still his father or not.
Westin was able to give him the Emperor’s Sutra Heaven Scroll, which showed his rational mind was dominant back then, and that family affection took precedence, but what about now?
Carson didn’t know what kind of actions he would eventually choose, but he just wanted to meet his father again after such a long time, to see if he was still the same as before.
"How effective can this piece of Ling Yao be?"
The bearded man, Kingston Walters, replied, "It’s wise, it enhances strength, and if you’re in the Nascent Soul Realm, like the Ling Yao we just saw a moment ago, perhaps you’d only need three to five pieces to advance one stage. If you’re in the Divinity Transformation Realm, you would need an even larger amount. No matter what, as long as you have enough Ling Yao, the advancement is swift..."
Nascent Soul Realm, three to five pieces of Ling Yao, advancing a stage?
The energy of Ling Yao seemed very potent!
It’s a pity that although we are here mining, there isn’t even a chance to be corrupt—the guards onsite won’t give you any opportunity!
Carson also faintly understood why those demon guards didn’t even confiscate everyone’s Void Rings.
Firstly because they were part of the Demon Race and had not transformed into human figures yet, they didn’t have use for them, and secondly perhaps everyone thought that cultivators at the Nascent Soul level or below, who had fallen into slavery, could not possess anything of value.
Magical treasures?
Flying Swords?
Keep them to mine, since as soon as Ling Yao is unearthed, the guards will discover it immediately. And as for those who think of escaping, heh, the guards will teach them how to behave in a matter of minutes.
"Ah!"
A piercing scream suddenly erupted among the crowd, and when Carson turned his head to look, he saw an old man in the distance being enveloped by black flames, his body instantly burned to nothing but white bones, and then even the bones were burned to black ashes.
Reduced to ashes and smoke!
Carson was startled—where did these black flames come from?
"The rock exploded!"
In the distance, someone shouted loudly, and everyone quickly moved away from the burning cultivator, as if the flames on his body were like a plague that could spread everywhere.
Watching this scene, Carson was also shocked.
Although he was not clear on the power level of the old man, to have a cultivator burned to white bone and then completely eradicated in an instant—was that possible?
"What is this?"
An elderly cultivator next to him replied in a despairing whisper, "This is Black Fire, a concomitant substance found within the Eternal Mine."
"Ling Yao and Black Fire are exact opposites; Ling Yao is an extremely pure energy that helps cultivators or demon cultivators quickly enhance their power, but Black Fire seems like the embodiment of misfortune. Once touched, it will cling like doom-bearing maggots, burning the person to ashes and smoke, annihilating body and Primordial Spirit alike."
Carson was inwardly shocked and turned back to ask, "How can one prevent Black Fire then?"
"There’s no way to predict it."
The old man replied with a lifeless visage, "The occurrence of Black Fire is the same as Ling Yao; no one knows whether it will appear before it surfaces, but once it does appear, it signifies someone’s grave misfortune!"
That really is esoteric!
Carson thought to himself and then reassured himself—he, after all, always had good fortune and probably would not dig up Black Fire.
"Ah!"
Not long after, Black Fire appeared again, engulfing the body of a digger and instantly burning it to bones, and finally to flying ash.
It was horrifying!
What exactly was Black Fire?
Carson subconsciously thought of his Water-Fire Mirror—should he encounter Black Fire, could the Water-Fire Mirror devour it?
Carson and the others were sent onto the Flying Boat, then into the dining hall, where they had a full meal before being hurried back to the camp to rest.
Carson lay on the bed in the camp, contemplating today’s encounters with some concern.
Today at least six or seven instances of people digging up Black Fire occurred, each being instantly incinerated by it, dying without a trace, yet with so many people, only three pieces of Ling Yao had been dug up.
The appearance ratio of Ling Yao to Black Fire was not high!
The probability of encountering Black Fire was at least twice as high as finding Ling Yao!
Carson turned his head to ask, "Brother Kingston, where are these pieces of Ling Yao sent after they are dug up?"
Kingston Walters replied, "Not quite sure, they should be accumulated somewhere here first, and then when a certain amount is reached, they are transported altogether to higher levels of the Demon Race, for their use or allocation."
Carson pressed on, "Do you know where they are stored?"
An idea suddenly dawned upon Carson...
