Chapter 557: Chapter 561 My Grandson is the Villain (8)

The food in the bowl before him was the best he had eaten since he was born.

It was so good that he couldn’t help but wonder if all of this was just happening in a dream.

Before the age of three, Luo Luxi had understood that there were no pies falling from the sky.

His grandmother’s indifferent attitude wasn’t painful or itchy to him, nor did it make him resentful.

Indifference was always better than being oppressed for others’ enjoyment.

But now, his grandmother’s sudden kindness left him at a loss.

Luo Luxi hesitated a moment longer before muttering in a subdued voice, "Do you want me to do something for you?"

Su Li paused with her chopsticks holding some food, and only after a moment did she slowly bring the piece of potato to her mouth.

She chewed slowly, swallowing before putting down her chopsticks and finally said, "Why would you think that? You are my own grandson..."

The meaning behind her words was clear without saying.

Luo Luxi stared at the food in front of him, pursing his lips tightly.

However stubborn, he was still just a five-year-old little tyke, unable to resist his own instincts.

The growling rumble of his empty stomach made him abandon all thoughts, wanting only to fill his belly quickly.

Su Li spoke up at just the right moment, "Hurry up and eat, the potatoes won’t taste as good once they cool down."

Luo Luxi nibbled small bites of the food in his bowl, like a cute little squirrel.

Su Li rested on her elbow, closely observing the little boy across from her: Luo Luxi didn’t resemble the Luo family at all.

Though only five, his every move seemed to naturally carry an air of nobility, ill-fitting with the surroundings.

No wonder both adults and children from the Luo family liked to bully him.

Why should everybody struggle and tumble in the mud while you appear like a clean lotus, unstained by the filth?

Luo Luxi’s inherent noble temperament didn’t endear him to others, and his commoner birth led to doubts when he later entered the Sports Academy.

This unlucky child—it seemed like no matter what he did, he was displeasing.

Su Li, knowing his future path, couldn’t help but give Luo Luxi a sympathetic look.

Tragic, truly tragic...

However, this pitiable young man was only a malnourished little child, small as a button.

The aroma of the potatoes from the main house drifted through the door crack, bit by bit, causing the noise and crying outside to grow even louder.

Tang Yilan nearly went insane pulling at her hair, and she angrily kicked Luo Rujiang beside her, saying, "Look at your mother, in front of the Clan Leader and clan elders, she’s all about having no money, no grain. Yet after she brushes us aside, she starts hogging all the food for herself."

"We’re not important, but what about Zhi Song, Zhi Shen? Aren’t they the Luo family’s seeds? Can she really bear to watch them go hungry? So heartless..."

Tang Yilan was almost driven to a nervous breakdown by the children’s crying.

She had always thought they were obedient and easy to manage, yet now they were like the ’Demon Lord of Mayhem’, unending, impossible to appease...

She didn’t consider that while she says she’s looking after the kids, all the messy details were taken care of by the old lady, making the mother’s life much easier.

Luo Rujiang was so provoked by his wife that he kicked the tightly shut door with fury and shouted through the crack, "Mom, if you have any extra food, give it to the children first to fill their stomachs. Look at them crying...."

"There is none. We’ve already divided the family assets. Everyone should provide for their own children. Don’t set your sights on this old lady."

"If only we could collect all the grain that you’ve lent out, it would be enough for your entire family to live lavishly."

The door remained closed, but Su Li’s resounding voice still carried through, circling back to the topic of what Tang Yilan had done.

Tang Yilan’s face turned pale; she dared not look at her husband’s expression and just kept her head down, speechless.

In the room, when Su Li said "this old lady," she couldn’t help but feel a sourness in her teeth – she really didn’t want to refer to herself as an old lady.

Just like how Su Li had been observing Luo Luxi the whole time, in fact, Luo Luxi had also been secretly and carefully watching this grandmother of his, in name.

It seemed, or so it appeared, that compared to yesterday, Grandma had changed a lot.

Maybe it was just his imagination, but Luo Luxi felt that Grandma seemed a bit younger.

The wrinkles on her face and hands weren’t as pronounced, and her demeanor seemed like that of a different person.

With just a slight arch of her brow, she managed to quiet his restless heart, fearing to let any stray thoughts arise.

This made Luo Luxi somewhat annoyed. By the age of three, he had already made a series of plans to break away from the Luo family.

This sudden act by Grandma had disrupted all his calculations.

Logically, Luo Luxi felt he should have been angry. He hated any unpredictable elements.

But this time, he didn’t seem to feel aversion.

For the moment, he decided to wait and see what the other party intended to do.

Su Li and Luo Luxi, this pair of grandparents, had a relatively good first night after the division, whereas the rest of the Luo family apparently did not fare so well.

The children cried half the night, exhausting everyone, until they finally drank their fill of hot water and fell into a tired sleep.

The chaotic day finally passed, but Luo Rujiang and Tang Yilan, lying in bed, couldn’t fall asleep for a long time.

After blaming his mother, Luo Rujiang berated Tang Yilan. Actions of hers that once seemed trivial to him, were now classified as unforgivable sins.

He couldn’t help but say, "Zhi Song, Zhi Shen, and Niu’er are all your children too. You fed your nephew well enough to plump him up, yet my children have to subsist on water... do you even deserve to be called a mother?"

Tang Yilan felt wronged too, "I, I thought your mother would never starve her own grandsons. Besides, you didn’t object to it before..."

At his wife’s words, Luo Rujiang was taken aback, then red with anger, he retorted, "I had no idea you’d lend out so much to your family. If I had known you were like this... I’d never have agreed."

Now that Su Li was no longer shielding them from responsibility, Luo Rujiang realized the immense pressure that came with being the head of a household.

"Tomorrow you take out all the money you’ve hidden and use it to buy grain."

Upon hearing this, Tang Yilan wanted to speak but suppressed the urge, not daring to make her husband angrier, and silently nodded in agreement.

Luo Rujiang continued, "Tomorrow I’ll go back to your family’s home with you. We’ll write off the debt owed by your mother as our show of respect, but as for your eldest uncle and younger uncles, everything they’ve borrowed from us must be returned."

"How could that be possible... they don’t have..." Tang Yilan immediately objected.

This time, Luo Rujiang wouldn’t indulge his wife, "Even close brothers settle accounts clearly. I’ve never heard of a debt that doesn’t have to be repaid."

"Do you want to watch your own sons and daughters starve to death?"
