Chapter 486: Chapter 490: Unrivaled in the World (Part 2)
Of course, all this was Su Li’s analysis of the original owner’s body; the original sheltered maiden raised by the family knew nothing about it.
Like everyone else, the original owner was convinced she wouldn’t live long.
Fortunately, she had an optimistic nature, and all her loved ones at home adored and doted on her, always putting her first. Surrounded by an abundance of love for almost sixteen years, she accepted her imminent death though it was a regret, not much resentment was in her heart.
However, what she couldn’t accept was her sudden death.
The day before, she had taken medicine and felt her body recuperate before sleep, but the next day, lying in the bed was a cold corpse.
Her life ended abruptly without any warning.
She had just celebrated her sixteenth birthday three days ago; could it be true that she was not meant to live past sixteen, as the Buddhist monk who had predicted her fate at birth once said?
She didn’t believe it, and the thought of the people in the mansion grieving over her sudden departure saddened her.
Her stern but indulgent grandmother, her stepmother who nevertheless cared and loved her tenderly, her protective brothers, her sister who always quarreled with her, and her kind and gentle father—they were all her most important family members, whom she couldn’t bear to leave behind.
Only in death did the original owner realize that she couldn’t let go of these loved ones who cherished her so dearly.
If possible, she would have wanted to stay with her family for a much longer time, even with a frail body.

Even after practicing the Daoist Scripture’s mental method for several weeks, except for feeling slightly better, the diseased body showed little change.
With such poor aptitude, even the most profound cultivation techniques were futile; Su Li could only devise a set of moves suited to her physical condition, enough at least for self-defense against enemies.
After all, the original owner was just an ordinary lady of a grand household, shielded within the boudoir, away from harm. Where could the danger possibly be?
All she ever wished for in her heart was to live a long and healthy life.
In Su Li’s view, the greatest danger to the original owner might well be within this very mansion.
Su Li likened the original owner to a chick deliberately bred by others, trapped in a small courtyard, where everything she saw and knew was filtered and fed to her by family members, her nature simplistic to a fault.
Due to her physical condition, she had no close girlfriends, and many things she knew came from what others told her.
Everyone said that her grandmother, mother, siblings were very kind to her; indeed, in the original owner’s memory, these people did seem very kind to her.
Su Li replaced sleep with practicing Daoist Scripture, and for an entire night, her room door remained closed.
Even when Huang Ying came to deliver dinner, she was refused entry.
Outside the room door, the untouched food box and a bowl of pitch-black medicine stood just as they were left.
The next morning, as soon as Su Li opened her room door, Huang Ying was leading a charming and delicate young lady her way.
This young lady was Su Li’s half-sister from the Su Family, the Second Young Lady, Su Qingqing.
She wore a fiery red Floral Pleated Skirt, her lively demeanor brimming with vitality, like a passionately blooming Fu Gui flower.
True to her flamboyant dress, Su Qingqing herself was straightforward and lively.
Still a distance away, her voice could be heard before she arrived.
"Sister, why are you out? You should go back to bed if you’re not feeling well."
Su Qingqing, seeming like an affectionate sister deeply concerned for her sibling, quickly approached Su Li in a few strides, supporting her arm and leading her back to the room.
As her gaze flitted past them, she noticed the untouched medicine, paused, and then waved her hand to command, "Huang Ying, the medicine has cooled, quickly go and heat it up again."
"Hurry up, sister will want to drink it later."
Huang Ying nodded, quickly carrying the medicine and food down.
After a few steps, she turned back around, "Lady hasn’t eaten anything from this meal, would it be okay if I cook another bowl of porridge for Lady?"
Su Qingqing slapped her forehead in annoyance, "It’s all my fault for not noticing, sister, you can’t go without eating something. Once the medicine is down, you should still have some more to eat."
"Just do as Huang Ying says, simmer a bowl of porridge, and add a few digestible snacks."
Huang Ying responded with a "Yes" and went down.
The interactions between these two seemed reciprocal, but it appeared that Su Qingqing was more like Huang Ying’s mistress.
No one questioned Su Li’s authority before she took matters into her own hands, yet the people around didn’t seem to think there was anything amiss.
Su Li was unaware of Huang Ying’s ill will toward her and even sincerely worried for her.
It’s only that this girl may not distinguish between what’s primary and secondary very well.
Huang Ying, the daughter of Su Li’s mother’s main maid, was undoubtedly heartfelt in her service; however, with such a simple-minded girl, she dared not keep her by her side any longer.
This cheap little sister of hers, always smiling brightly, and her intimate gestures, seemed to suggest a close relationship between them.
But her eyes betrayed her true thoughts.
The little girl still didn’t know how to conceal them.
Unconvincing laughter in her eyes told Su Li that this younger sister didn’t like her one bit.
Soon, the warmed medicine was brought up, Huang Ying thoughtfully placed it to Su Li’s right hand, within easy reach.
The lukewarm temperature was just right to drink.
Su Qingqing urged, "Sister, hurry up and drink, once you take the medicine, you’ll get better."
When the original owner was a child, she would have believed this phrase: take the medicine, and you will be well.
When she became older, she understood that even after taking the medicine, her condition wouldn’t improve; this phrase was just a kind lie to comfort others.
But even knowing it was false, each time her family said this, she still felt warm and happy inside.
It represented all the love her family had for her.
Every time her family said this, she would obediently drink up all the medicine.
But this time, Su Li wrinkled her nose, pushing the medicine bowl to the side disdainfully, "Why should I drink something so nasty?"
"Let whoever likes such a disgusting drink have it."
Su Li extended a wilful and domineering finger, poking the edge of the medicine bowl, nudging it gently once, then again.
Half of the medicine bowl slipped over the edge of the table, losing its balance, and with a "clang," it fell to the floor and shattered into pieces.
The dark brown medicine splashed everywhere.
The moment the warm medicine touched her, Su Qingqing quickly jumped to the side but still couldn’t avoid the stains.
Spots and splatters of dark brown stained her dazzling red Floral Skirt, resembling corrupt spots on fresh flowers—unpleasant and revolting.
Su Qingqing couldn’t help but cry out in alarm, her expression turning ugly as she looked at the new skirt Miss had just brought her today.
A perfectly good Floral Pleated Skirt was completely ruined.
