Chapter 405: Chapter 409: Pen Fairy (8)

"Baby..." the woman murmured in her sleep, suddenly sitting up, gasping for air, her eyes confusedly scanning the surroundings.

She had just had a terrible nightmare!

When the woman’s eyes fell on the crib beside her bed, tears streamed down her face like water from an unstoppable faucet.

It wasn’t a nightmare, her baby was truly gone.

At that moment, the door was pushed open, and an elegantly dressed man hurried in.

His face was anxious, his voice filled with sympathy, "Shu Ya, don’t be like this, if the baby knew you were so saddened because of him, he wouldn’t rest easy either."

Shu Ya wiped away her tears and looked at her husband, pleading, "Husband, let me see the baby, don’t worry about me not being able to handle it."

A flicker of unease quickly crossed Cheng Bin’s face, disappearing just as swiftly, as he softly persuaded, "The baby suddenly fell ill, I have already buried him... I know you’re heartbroken, after you get better, we can try for another, who knows, he might even be reincarnated as our child."

A great hope burst across Shu Ya’s face, "Really?"

"Really."

Shu Ya was both crying and laughing, "Then call the nurse over, I need to take my medication, hoping the baby will choose me as his mother again."

These words were actually self-deceptive, but without them, Shu Ya didn’t know how else she could endure the immense pain of losing a child.

Cheng Bin tenderly kissed Shu Ya’s forehead, "Don’t think too much, the baby has just returned to heaven, when we learn to be better parents, he will come back to us."

The sorrowful look on Cheng Bin’s face turned instantly somber as he turned around, his eyes dark and deep, showing none of his prior gentlemanly demeanor.

Ghost Baby ignored the man’s attitude, its gaze filled with affection, lingering on Shu Ya, unable to leave.

It followed Shu Ya closely, sometimes even trying to touch her.

When its hand passed through Shu Ya’s body, a lost and forlorn expression appeared on its face, pitiful.

Su Li went out and managed to gather most of the details about the occupant of this hospital room.

Shu Ya was the heiress to the Shi Min Consortium; she met her true love, Cheng Bin, well into her thirties.

Their meeting was still a favorite topic among many.

In pursuit of Shu Ya, Cheng Bin employed all kinds of childish and laughably romantic tactics, winning over the steely President Shu with his sincerity.

Though Cheng Bin came from a humble village, he was quite handsome, educated, and well-spoken.

Shu Ya valued Cheng Bin for who he was, irrespective of his family background.

The two had a sweet wedding and six months later, Shu Ya was pregnant, hence she handed over the company to her husband, eagerly anticipating their little one’s arrival.

However, it seemed like fate disapproved of their happiness; after giving birth, Shu Ya only saw her child once before he never returned.

Her husband told her that three days post-birth, the child was moved to the intensive care unit and soon after, passed away...

Being an older mother, childbirth drained her of her primordial qi, and the immense joy and sorrow drastically weakened her health.

Now, almost half a year after her child’s death, she still lingered in the hospital, unable to accept such a reality.

Her baby had been with her day and night for ten months, to part with him was too much; initially, she also thought about following him in death.

With her husband’s tender care and companionship, Shu Ya slowly regained some vitality.

Only today had she come to accept that according to Buddhist teachings of reincarnation, it’s possible her child could truly be reborn in her womb.

She had just dreamt of her baby.

Fair and tender, sitting across from her, calling her "Mommy."

Ghost Baby’s father, that man, definitely had issues.

She just saw him downstairs, tugging at a woman.

However, she did not intervene, nor did she feel the urge to stand up for the woman before her.

Essentially, she was a rather indifferent person. Why waste time when there was no merit to be earned?

Lord Ghost Immortal’s time was very valuable.

Her help to the Little Ghost Baby in finding its relatives stemmed only from pity for the innocent baby that had lost its life.

Su Li naturally had more tolerance for these pure and untainted souls.

As for everyone else, forget it.

There were so many pitiful people in the world; she couldn’t possibly manage them all.

Every cause and effect had its own reason for existence.

Su Li looked on indifferently, waved her hand to the Little Ghost Baby, signaling it to follow her.

It no longer belonged to the Mortal World. After severing earthly ties, it was better to return.

This time, however, the Little Ghost Baby did not snuggle up to her; instead, it looked at its mother, its eyes unwavering, and firmly shook its head.

Then, it suddenly knelt before Su Li.

"Ah ah ah..."

Su Li’s expression was baffled, "Do you mean you want to be with your mother?"

Like a chick pecking at grains, the Little Ghost Baby nodded repeatedly, showing a pleading look, with hands clasped together as if begging.

"You still can’t bear to leave just like that, can you?" Su Li bluntly poked at its ghostly intentions.

It wasn’t just clinging to its mother and unwilling to leave; it was also seeking revenge.

Aside from the Evil Path, there were others who had harmed it, still at large in the Mortal World.

The Little Ghost Baby avoided Su Li’s gaze as if escaping, and kept kowtowing to Su Li.

Su Li said, "Do you know, if you sever this karma now and leave with me, based on your being innocently harmed, I can ensure your next life will be smooth, safe, and joyful."

"But if you choose to stay now, whether your future will be good or bad, I can’t guarantee. Who knows? In a few days, there might be masters shouting to strike you down."

A flicker of hesitation crossed the Little Ghost Baby’s eyes, but it soon firmed up, pointed at its mother, and then quietly curled up in her embrace.

Su Li’s expression was calm, "Alright, as you wish."

Turning around, Su Li dissipated in the room, but as she left, she softened her heart.

The room was left with only a woman and the little ghost lying on her.

In the evening, Cheng Bin came to dine with Shu Ya before leaving.

Seeing her husband looking distressed, Shu Ya asked with concern, "Is there something troubling at the company?"

Cheng Bin shook his head, smiling, "No, don’t worry about the company matters. I’ve got it all under control. Just focus on taking good care of yourself. Don’t make me worry, okay?"

Shu Ya whispered a reply, her face still lined with unresolvable worries.

Yet, her trust in her husband made her refrain from questioning further, feeling guilty in her heart.

Because of her, her husband had been exhausted, running between the company and the hospital.

She needed to recover quickly.

Shu Ya had no doubts about her husband’s handling of the company affairs. During her pregnancy, she had transferred all her work to Cheng Bin, and he had always handled it well.

Since he said the company was fine, she was not worried.
