Chapter 849: The Truth Behind Ming Dailan’s Miscarriage

Chapter 849: Chapter 849: The Truth Behind Ming Dailan’s Miscarriage

Li Qiao decided to go all in, watching as Landis transitioned from panic to helplessness, his psychological defenses completely crumbling. She coaxed, "I can find out your information. Do you think Charlman can’t?"

...

A full half hour passed, and Li Qiao still hadn’t come out.

Bai Yan waited anxiously and impatiently, pacing back and forth in the corridor.

At this moment, hurried footsteps came from the direction of the stairwell. Several people looked towards the sound and saw Tu Anliang rushing back, holding a plate of guavas.

Unlike his previous arrogant demeanor in the South Sea, Tu Anliang had now shaved his beard, revealing a relatively fair face, and his whole demeanor had become much more stable and mature.

"Brother Bai, is Miss Li still here?"

Tu Anliang had just rushed back from Myanmar, having learned that Li Qiao was coming to Scarlet City today. He specially went across the border to fetch fresh guavas.

Bai Yan glanced at the tray, his expression ambiguous, "You’re quite thoughtful."

Tu Anliang lowered his head slightly, "Just a small effort."

As they spoke, the door to the private room opened.

Everyone glanced over in unison. Under the warm corridor lights, Li Qiao had her eyes lowered, her expression indiscernible. Yet, anyone could sense the low pressure brewing around her and... the indescribable complex aura.

She seemed angry, yet bizarrely suppressing her anger, and those clear eyes held various emotions, seemingly tinged with distress and regret.

Li Qiao’s temperament was normally indifferent, even Bai Yan, who’d known her for years, had never seen her like this.

"Not going well?" Bai Yan pretended to draw his gun, striding towards the private room, "I’ll teach him a lesson myself."

The underworld boss of Scarlet City had always done as he pleased.

However, he had taken just two steps when Li Qiao’s soft and slow voice stopped him, "Find him a place to stay in Scarlet City, create a new identity for him, and there will be no more Landis in the future."

Bai Yan halted in his tracks and looked at Li Qiao with furrowed brows, "Did he confess everything?"

"More or less."

Li Qiao still had her head lowered, and as she passed by Tu Anliang, she asked slowly, "Are you getting used to it here?"

"Miss Li, rest assured, I’m doing well."

Li Qiao raised her eyes, glancing sideways, "Landis is in your hands from now on."

Tu Anliang patted his chest with a righteous air, "No problem."

...

The night was as dark as ink; Li Qiao and Bai Yan arrived at the nightclub’s rooftop.

No one knew what she had talked about with Landis. A few minutes ago, Landis had already been secretly transferred by Tu Anliang; indeed, there was no longer any Landis in Scarlet City.

Bai Yan had an unlit cigarette in his mouth, leaning on the railing, grinning, "Judging by your expression, someone’s in for it."

Li Qiao looked into the distance, her lips curved leisurely, "The matter I asked you to investigate before, any progress?"

"August 12th incident?"

Li Qiao nodded, and Bai Yan, biting the cigarette, answered ambiguously, "Not yet. Too many people died of mad cow disease, and a lot of the information is incomplete. Give me a few more days."

"No rush." Li Qiao coldly smiled, looking down at her fingertips, "I’m returning to the South Sea tomorrow. I’ll arrange the rest and inform you."

Bai Yan’s eyes lit up a few degrees, "Planning something big?"

Li Qiao gripped the railing with both hands, lightly tapping with her fingertips, "Not planning big things, targeting people."

She wanted Ming Dailan to realize the magnitude of her mistakes in this lifetime.

Bai Yan was quite intrigued, "Then hurry up, I’m waiting. Are you hungry? Want me to fry a bowl of rice for you?"

Li Qiao was still lost in her thoughts, but upon hearing Bai Yan’s offer, she swiftly refused, "I’m not eating."

Though the fried rice was a family tradition, she really hadn’t seen anyone put half a bowl of spring onions into fried rice.

Can it be eaten? Even pigs would find it unappealing without some meat.

...

Li Qiao had promised Shang Yu to return to the South Sea as soon as possible.

So early the next morning, she prepared to return.

Scarlet City, she would come back in a while.

At the international airport on the border, Bai Yan reluctantly escorted Li Qiao onto the plane. He stood at the bottom of the gangway, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a cigarette tip, "Pass a message to Shang Shaoyan when you get back."

"What?" Li Qiao looked back from the steps, her brow raised suspiciously, remembering that Bai Yan and Shang Yu didn’t know each other.

Bai Yan pushed his cheek with his tongue, "Tell him, I welcome him to visit Scarlet City. Next time, come together, don’t let you run back and forth alone. Damn fool doesn’t know how to care."

Li Qiao gave him a sideways glance, "You talk too much."

Bai Yan sneered, turning to glance at Luoyu, "Huang Cuiying, remember to relay my words to Shang Shaoyan exactly."

Luoyu thought, could she resign from the Flame Alliance?

The group boarded the plane, and Bai Yan, like an old father, stood with his hands behind his back, watching from afar.

He recalled Li Qiao’s expression from last night, and a hint of interest gradually rose on his face.

The last time she had that expression, she ended up blowing up a city.

This time, which city would she blow up?

...

Inside the cabin, Li Qiao lay in the resting suite, with a plum slice in her mouth, frowning in discomfort.

Travel during pregnancy was indeed not advisable, but for Shang Yu, this trip to Scarlet City was imperative.

Landis, a former member of the Charlman Family’s Knight Squad.

Eleven years ago, he escorted Ming Dailan to Parma.

After an incident with Ming Dailan, the entire twenty-member Knight Squad was punished and expelled.

The reason was their failure to protect the Duchess.

Under the British Imperial class system, they indeed deserved the punishment.

But the ensuing series of events made Landis sense something unusual.

First, Landis’s lover was in a car accident and became a vegetable. Then, a fire engulfed the apartment where his parents lived, killing them both.

Landis initially thought it was just misfortune. Only after inquiring about the other Knight Squad members did he realize everyone faced similar fates.

Furthermore, thirteen of them died in the same car crash.

This included two maids who drowned in the lake inside the Charlman Manor.

Landis said, it was the Old Duke who wanted them dead.

At the time, Li Qiao asked just two words: "The reason."

After receiving her assurance, Landis revealed the insider information only he knew.

When Ming Dailan miscarried, it wasn’t due to a massive hemorrhage. Her uterus was forcibly removed by the family doctor.

Allegedly, it was secretly ordered by Xiao Hongdao.

The reason was, she’d meddled where she shouldn’t have, and Landis suspected it had to do with the duke’s position.

Landis knew all the details because his lover was the family doctor in question.

As he recounted, the Knight Squad was laid off immediately upon returning to the British Imperial.

During his final moment with the female doctor, she inexplicably revealed the matter to him in bed.

Soon after, the female doctor was in a car accident, and ten days into being comatose, died of oxygen poisoning.
