Chapter 839: Chapter 839: Shang Yu’s Indulgence
At that moment, Bai Yan finally mustered the courage to return Li Qiao’s phone call.
Without asking much, he eagerly offered, "That foreigner named Landis, should I find him for you?"
"Mhm," Li Qiao responded indifferently, "Why wasn’t the IP address transferred successfully?"
On the other end of the line, Bai Yan hung up abruptly—beep, beep, beep—
Li Qiao closed her eyes and couldn’t help but chuckle.
...
As night fell, Li Qiao finished dinner and went back to the lab.
Shang Yu sat in the living room, massaging his forehead, overcome by sleepiness, and soon he dozed off on the couch.
The sedative effect of Clonazepam was very strong, and he had been taking it for nearly half a month; the symptoms of its side effects were starting to show.
Half an hour later, Li Qiao returned to the living room and saw Shang Yu sound asleep; she tiptoed over and crouched by the sofa.
The man seemed to be having an uneasy sleep, creases forming between his eyebrows, lips slightly pursed; on closer observation, one could see a thin layer of sweat on his forehead.
Li Qiao’s heart clenched in an instant; she wanted to ask him to sleep in bed, but worried he might secretly take medicine in the middle of the night.
She watched Shang Yu for a long time until her legs grew numb, then she decided to stand up to stretch a bit and look for the medicine box.
However, as soon as she moved, Shang Yu opened his eyes.
The usually deep, ink-like black eyes now held a trace of haziness.
The man before her was Li Qiao, bending at the waist; he unconsciously reached out and caressed her cheek.
A few seconds later, he returned to normal, "Why are you crouching here?"
He sat up, pulled Li Qiao down to the couch beside him, pressed at his temples, looking quite uncomfortable.
Li Qiao patted her own leg, gesturing with her chin, "Lie down."
Shang Yu raised an eyebrow slightly but complied with Li Qiao’s insistence.
He rested his head on Li Qiao’s legs, looking up at her from below.
Li Qiao’s fingertips touched his jaw, tapping lightly, "Close your eyes."
Perhaps because he had just woken up or perhaps because Li Qiao’s actions surprised him, the man slowly closed his eyes, the corners of his thin lips curling into a faint smile.
Li Qiao’s cool fingertips landed on his temple, massaging lightly as he had often done for her.
The room was very quiet, and with Li Qiao’s moderate pressure, Shang Yu’s furrowed brows slowly relaxed. She leaned forward and pecked his smooth forehead, "I want to go for a medical check-up the day after tomorrow."
The man didn’t open his eyes but hooked his hand around her neck, tilted his face up to hers, "I’ll go with you."
"Let’s go together, it’s about time you had one," Li Qiao said, fearing he might overthink, adding, "You’ve been eating a prenatal diet with me all this time; I need to check if you have any nutritional deficiencies."
The man sucked on her lips and let out a magnetic, pleasing chuckle from his throat, "Not likely."
"It’s always good to check, it’s just a blood test and some lab work after all."
Shang Yu always met Li Qiao’s suggestions with unconditional fulfillment.
Even if it was unexpected, he indulged her without hesitation.
The night grew deeper, and the two went back to bed. Learning from past experience, Li Qiao gave him no chance to get up in the middle of the night, clinging to him like an octopus.
Only when she was sure Shang Yu could no longer resist the medicine and had fallen into a deep sleep did she slowly open her eyes.
He had taken medicine tonight without her knowledge.
Li Qiao touched his brows and eyes and sighed silently; then she stealthily left the bedroom.
The mansion was large; if he really wanted to hide it from her, the odds were that the bottle of medicine would be in a place she wouldn’t expect...
