Chapter 773: Chapter 773: Congratulations, Soon-to-Be Dad
She didn’t know how much time had passed before Li Qiao wiped her face and silently accepted the fact of her pregnancy.
She placed the report casually on the table and propped her cheek with her hand, gazing at Shang Yu with a somewhat vacant look in her eyes.
Men’s charm leads one astray!
Back in Parma, she had firmly stated that she didn’t want to have a baby too early.
Shang Yu had indeed respected her decision, but in the end... it had been her who took the initiative to cross the line at Tangxi Garden.
Li Qiao couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart; it was very calm, yet there was an indescribable complexity to it.
It wasn’t until her hand was covered with a warm touch that she refocused her eyes, finding herself looking at the man’s distinctly contoured handsome face.
She lifted her fingertips, intending to touch Shang Yu’s brows and eyes.
Su Moshi, leaning against the corner of the desk, clenched his fist and coughed lightly by his lips, "Do I need to leave for a bit?"
Li Qiao’s hand paused mid-air, and she threw him a cold look.
Su Moshi surrendered with a smile, raising his hands, "You guys continue, I’ll..."
"Wait." Li Qiao called out to him with a very faint voice, turning her head to look at Shang Yu’s inscrutable expression, and pursed her lips, "I have a few words to say to Su Lao Si."
The man didn’t speak, and Su Moshi raised his eyebrows in surprise, his eyes sweeping over Shang Yu’s cheek before nodding in acknowledgment. He then followed Li Qiao out the door.
The air in the testing room seemed to surge silently as Shang Yu lifted his eyelids to stare at the tightly closed door, his eyes filled with dark shadows.
Outside in the hallway, Li Qiao walked very slowly with her hands in her pockets, looking down.
Su Moshi occasionally glanced at her, pondered for a moment, then said bluntly, "Don’t tell me you’re thinking of aborting the child."
He understood Li Qiao. She was young but exceptionally rational.
Getting pregnant now was indeed inconvenient and risky.
But deep down, Su Moshi still didn’t want Li Qiao to choose an abortion.
The child of her and Shang Shaoyan would be highly anticipated for both looks and intelligence.
At this moment, Li Qiao stopped walking and asked expressionlessly, "Why would I abort the child?"
Su Moshi stopped in surprise, a smile forming in his eyes, "Then why did you call me out..."
"Keep it secret for me." Li Qiao said with a twist of her mouth, scraping her toes on the ground a couple of times before adding in a muffled voice, "And find me some information on pregnancy preservation."
Su Moshi was taken aback for a moment but then laughed.
He laughed openly and heartily.
Li Qiao looked at him with a cool gaze and kicked him lightly but firmly.
Undaunted, Su Moshi looked back into her eyes, laughing uncontrollably.
As Li Qiao’s face became more expressionless, he finally exhaled, patted her head with empathy, and said, "You always manage to surprise and delight us, Xiao Qi Zai."
Li Qiao brushed off his hand and shrugged her shoulders slightly, "Remember to keep it a secret."
Su Moshi nodded tacitly, and after a few seconds of silence, he looked at her and asked, "Tell me the truth, did you ever think about getting an abortion?"
"No." Li Qiao replied crisply, "I didn’t want a child this early because the timing wasn’t right. Now that it’s here, there’s no reason to throw it away."
Su Moshi sighed with relief and admiration, "It’s best that you think this way, no matter what, with both of your capabilities, protecting the child shouldn’t be a problem."
Li Qiao looked out at the landscape through the window with a lingering gaze and smiled leisurely, "Mhm, I’ll protect it with my life."
This was her and Shang Yu’s child, and since it had come, it had to stay.
...
A few minutes later, Li Qiao returned to the testing room alone.
Shang Yu was still sitting in the same place, motionless.
His arms rested on the armrests, his fingertips intertwined, his eyelids lowered as if deep in thought.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, the man lifted his eyelids, revealing dark eyes that were so deep and dim they were devoid of any color.
Li Qiao closed the door behind her and walked forward to meet his gaze, "What’s wrong?"
Shang Yu remained silent, his profound gaze tracing the contours of her brows and eyes.
Seeing this, Li Qiao understood immediately.
Given her grasp of Shang Yu’s emotions, she hardly needed to ask to see the signs.
Li Qiao stood in front of him and leaned forward slightly, "You..."
"Is the date set?" Shang Yu asked with a hoarse voice, taking the lead, his adam’s apple moving rapidly as he slowly lifted his palm to rest on her abdomen.
Li Qiao didn’t understand and frowned subconsciously, "What date?"
The man’s fingertips lingered on her belly, and even though he couldn’t feel anything, he continued to stroke almost obsessively.
Li Qiao looked down at his actions, and after a moment, she looked up at Shang Yu’s indifferent and profound complexion and let out an ’ah’, "It’s set."
The man’s motion halted instantly.
Li Qiao suppressed a smile as she pressed down on the back of his hand, giving a faint smile, "Nine months later."
He probably thought she didn’t want to keep the child.
Shang Yu’s gaze trembled slightly as he suddenly looked at Li Qiao, visible ripples surging in his silent eyes.
Li Qiao settled into his embrace, wrapping her arm around his shoulder and patting it rhythmically while speaking to herself, "I asked Su Lao Si to keep it a secret for me, and also to prepare some information on pregnancy care. We both lack experience, so we need to prepare in advance."
Her tone was light and easy, completely free from her previous confusion and vacancy.
As she finished speaking, Li Qiao could distinctly feel the strength in the man’s arms around her slowly ebbing away.
She looked sideways at him with a smile, her cool fingertips pinching Shang Yu’s cheek, "Aren’t you going to say something?"
The man’s adam’s apple moved, his lips were tightly pursed, and after a while, he gently stroked her chin and asked in a low voice, "You want to keep it?"
Li Qiao raised her brows and glanced at him askance, "Otherwise? Get it aborted?"
Shang Yu looked up and pressed his lips to hers, half-closing his eyes, his voice so hoarse it was hardly recognizable, "Don’t abort, is that okay?"
Li Qiao froze in his arms, her eyes unwittingly reddening.
She had never seen the arrogantly confident Shang Yu exhibit such a vulnerable side, almost akin to a plea.
Li Qiao lowered her head to rest on his shoulder and turned away her face, fighting back the tears welling up in her eyes, and replied in a husky voice, "Congratulations, future dad."
This was Shang Yu’s child, how could she bear to abort it?
She was determined to keep it, even if it cost her life.
...
Meanwhile, Xia Siyu returned to the villa with red eyes. Just as she rounded the path in front of the door, she saw Yun Lih clutching his chest, bending over with severe coughing.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly ran over to pat his back, "Brother Lih, what’s wrong with you?"
No sooner had she finished speaking than large tears began to slide down from the corners of her eyes.
Yun Lih straightened up, shook the beer can in his hand, and was about to say he had just choked when he turned his head and was taken aback.
He looked at Xia Siyu, whose face was streaked with tears, with a mix of amusement and bewilderment, "What is this... are you seeing me off to the afterlife?"
He just choked on a sip of beer, and there she was crying like this—what was she trying to do?
Xia Siyu bit the corner of her mouth and upon closer inspection noticed the beer can in his hand.
Yet even so, her sadness continued to spread and ferment in her heart, with the tears showing no signs of stopping.
Yun Lih, with his acute perception, sensed something unusual and narrowed his eyes, probing, "Come on, tell me, what exactly happened?"
Xia Siyu, not daring to tell the truth, found herself increasingly distressed the more carefree Yun Lih appeared. In the end, she covered her eyes and sobbed softly, "My dad yelled at me..."
Yun Lih, who was eager for gossip, "..."
