Chapter 646: Chapter 646: Different Paths, Same Destination

At that moment, Li Qiao walked up to Wang Yue with pursed lips, and without a word, she snatched the documents from his embrace and tossed them carelessly onto the coffee table.

Documents scattered across the table with a rustle, and the kraft paper envelope also caught the eye.

Picking up the kraft paper envelope, Li Qiao gave Wang Yue a cool look, her expression unusually somber.

The mental preparation she had made was disrupted by this little interlude, leaving Li Qiao with no surplus energy for anything else.

Watching Wang Yue make a narrow escape with the documents in his clutches, she approached Shang Yu with the envelope in hand and pushed it towards him on the bar counter, signaling him to open it.

The man’s eyebrows lifted slightly as he picked up the envelope, his gaze still on Li Qiao’s face, "What’s this?"

She didn’t answer, but her peripheral vision stayed alert to his movements.

As Shang Yu unfolded the document, and the bold characters at the top of the page caught his sight, Li Qiao licked her lips and looked away, "Should I sign?"

Shang Yu looked at the two marriage registration forms, his Adam’s apple moving sharply as ripples surged through his dark pupils.

When she didn’t get a response from him for a while, the composure that was typical of her started to falter.

She shifted her gaze and took a quick glance at the man, and couldn’t help but frown slightly.

His profile was as sharp and clear as ever, sitting upright on the bar stool, his broad arms under his shirt and his handsome, moon-like brows and eyes were just as moving as when she first saw him.

No lights were turned on in the living room, and the afterglow of the sunset cast a dim yellow hue.

Li Qiao felt an uncommon sense of nervousness.

After all, getting a marriage license was different from dating.

Taking this step meant that from now on, they would have no other options.

In a certain sense, she and Shang Yu were the same kind of people.

Once chosen, it was the end of the story; even if they took different paths, they had to end up together.

The hand hanging by Li Qiao’s side curled slightly as she observed his expression, attempting to find a topic to break the silence of the moment, "Which character can’t you recognize?"

Her tone wasn’t harsh, but it obviously contained a hint of petulance.

After a while, Shang Yu put down the registration form and turned to look at Li Qiao with his Adam’s apple sliding up and down.

The light of the setting sun spilled at the girl’s feet; she stood within the ring of light, beautiful and warm, her dark deer eyes looking straight at him, hiding both coquetry and cunning.

Shang Yu covered his eyelids, the frequency of his Adam’s apple betraying his not-so-calm emotions at this moment.

He reached out to pull Li Qiao closer, and with a gentle tug, he drew her into his embrace.

His palm was very warm as it climbed up her nape, he leaned down until his forehead met hers, and his breathing scattered down, his voice huskily asking, "What’s missing from your household register?

At the sound, Li Qiao smiled; he had indeed seen the WeChat message she had withdrawn.

She hooked her arm around Shang Yu’s shoulder and rubbed her forehead against his a couple of times, "Missing you."

Another moment of silence ensued from the man, his palm tightening around her as he pressed her closer to himself, his eyes drifting towards the registration form. His thin lips brushed past her cheek as he said in a deep voice near her ear, "I’ll give it to you after I fill it out."

Li Qiao let out a small sigh, "Alright then."

As long as he filled it out, that was fine.

...

The next day, the sky was clear.

Li Qiao went to the living room after breakfast, but she didn’t find the registration form nor did she see Shang Yu. She only learned that he had left in the middle of the night after asking Luoyu.

"He didn’t say where he was going?" Li Qiao played with her phone, raising her eyebrows as she asked.

Luoyu shook her head in a mechanical manner, "The boss only took Wang Yue with him, probably business to deal with at the company."

Li Qiao didn’t ask further. She had been to Aida State a few days earlier, so work at the Yan Emperor headquarters had inevitably piled up.

Shortly after, Li Qiao also drove out.

Before nine-thirty, she walked into the fund company, ignoring the receptionist’s covert glances, and headed straight to the meeting room.

She had just sat down when her phone rang.

An unmarked phone number, but the last digits were very familiar.

A playful look flashed through Li Qiao’s eyes. She slid to answer the call but didn’t speak.

"Miss Li, hope you’re in good health." Xiao Yeyan’s voice was always indifferent and unhurried.

Leaning back in her chair, Li Qiao wore a half-smile, "Calling me at this time, what can Vice Secretary-General Xiao have in mind?"

Xiao Yeyan didn’t beat around the bush, speaking frankly, "About the matter we discussed earlier, how have you considered it?"

Li Qiao feigned contemplation, "Hmm... I haven’t decided yet."

"Heh." Xiao Yeyan laughed shortly, then took a long breath, "Miss Li, you clearly have made up your mind, why bother playing coy with me?

Yin Mo was seriously injured by you in Aida State, my elder brother is probably furious by now, isn’t this the result you wanted?"

She seriously injured Yin Mo?!

Li Qiao slowly opened her eyes wider, a light blaze in her gaze, "Who told you that?"

Xiao Yehan sipped his tea, his tone wrapped in a chuckle, "To be honest, I was genuinely surprised that you could actually send someone to assassinate Yin Mo. Li Qiao, you’re more ruthless than any woman I’ve ever met."

"Thank you for the compliment." Li Qiao wore a slight smile, her fingertips gently tracing the desktop, seemingly regretful as she asked, "Is Yin Mo still alive?"

Xiao Yehan paused for a few seconds, his tone filled with uncertainty, "You... want her dead?"

Li Qiao enunciated clearly, her voice cold, "A person who comes after me with mercenaries, shouldn’t she die?"

There was a stretch of silence from the receiver.

Li Qiao glanced at her phone and hung up directly.

Speaking of which, Xiao Yehan seemed to have some use.

Yin Mo, second sister.

At that moment, her phone vibrated again on the desk, still a call from Xiao Yehan.

Li Qiao watched the phone hang up automatically without moving, a faint smile curling on her lips.

The timing wasn’t right yet.

When Xiao Yehan called for the third time, Li Qiao answered and coldly dropped a line, "Vice Secretary Xiao, if you want me to cooperate with you, it’s not out of the question, help me get rid of Yin Mo, and then we can talk about everything."

"Really?" Xiao Yehan asked in a low voice, seemingly incredulous but with a probing tone.

Li Qiao turned to look out the window, her words deliberate, "I, for one, hate being threatened."

Xiao Yehan laughed softly, reflecting, "Xiao Yehui indeed overestimated your feelings for Yin Mo, await my news."

This time, Xiao Yehan hung up first.

Li Qiao withdrew the coldness in her eyes and sank into deep thought with a sigh.

Suddenly, a noise came from the doorway, Xi Luo leaned against the door with her high heels, arms crossed and an enigmatic expression looking at her, "If I remember correctly, Yin Mo should be one of those seven buddies of yours, right?"

Li Qiao rubbed her forehead and gestured towards the chair in front of the desk, "Heard it all?"

Xi Luo kicked the door open with the tip of her shoe, walked in, and sat down, smiling, "More or less. You’re really something, kid, to even lay hands on your own people, truly worthy of being the Flame Alliance King who once blew up a city on your own."
